Chapter Twenty-five
A girl is sitting in a big clearing with grass and one big, beautiful tree. She is sitting against the tree and picking on a flower. Her hair looks extremely healthy and shiny, her eyes are bright and she is happy. She is very happy. When a blow of wind flies over the clearing, the girl smiled and stands up. She walks a few meters away from the tree and waits. The long leaves - which drag along the ground - open like a gate is being opened. A bright light appears.
Nina walks out. She blinks a few time, getting adjusted to the bright light, and looks around. When she spots the girl, her eyes widen.
'Hope?!'
Hope smiles brightly and opens her arms. Nina runs immediately to her and embraces her.
'This is a dream, right?', Nina mumbles. 'this must be.'
'It isn't.', Hope tells her. 'I'm sorry Nina.'
Nina lets Hope go and looks at her.
'For what?', she asks. 'For what have you need to be sorry?'
'Nina.', Hope sighed. 'You're dead.'
Nina's smile disappears. She stares in disbelief at the younger girl.
'I'm what?', she asked softly.
'You are dead.'
Staring at her lifeless body, a few tears roll from Jack's eyes. He couldn't believe it. He really thought she would make it, with everything she had been through. But sadly, that wasn't the case. Taking a deep breath, he tucked her hair behind her ears - that was how her hair would be the most comfortable. He blinked and a few drops rolled down his cheeks again. A hand closes around his shoulder, he turned to reveal Jonah.
'I'm really sorry, men.', he said. Jack forced a thankful smile and let his head hung low. He patted his back. 'I'm sure she would love you forever.'
'Did it hurt?', Hope asked Nina. They sat together underneath the tree, crosslegged.
'I- I don't think so.', Nina said shrugging. 'I didn't feel anything.'
'How do you feel now?', Hope asked. Nina stayed silent, carefully searching for an answer.
'Is it weird to say relieved?', Nina asked Hope. She shook her head. 'It feels like I don't have any weight on my shoulders, which I felt earlier.'
'I think your body gave up fighting.', Hope said. 'Just like mine; It just couldn't carry the heavy weight life gives you sometimes.' Nina nodded, staring at the sunrise.
'It is beautiful here.', she said.
'It really is.', Hope agreed.
'You sound so smart, by the way.', Nina said. 'You really sound like an adult or so.'
'You learn to be wise through your journey of life.', Hope said. 'I hope you will realize that too.'
Nina giggled and shook her head.
'If you wished one thing, what would that be?', Nina asked Hope.
'To see my father.', Hope reacted instantly. 'I really want to see him again. I think he's very alone. And I just want to hug him again and feel warm again and...-' Hope sighed and buried her face in her head. 'I just want him to be here for me again.' Nina patted her back affectionately.
'I think you will see him again.', Nina said. 'I really do. I keep believing.' Hope smiled.
'Thank you.', she said. 'What would you wish?' Nina blinked, letting the question progress.
'I don't know.', she said. 'I want to be with Juna again, with my parents, but also... with Jack. I just... wished I could have spent more time with him. I was so sure that I would make it but...' Nina fell silent. 'I guess I'm not as strong as I thought.'
'Nina, not everyone can achieve everything they want from life.', Hope said. 'It's a thing, but you have to keep fighting for it. You really did, but your body couldn't handle it anymore.'
'I guess so.', Nina sighed. 'Why am I not crying? Am I suppose to be crying? I don't know! Why am I not crying?'
'Because you are relieved that you can't feel the pain anymore.', Hope said. 'I had that too. It needs time to progress.' Nina looked at Hope.
'So where will we be going?', she asked.
'Everywhere, nowhere,', Hope said. 'I have one question; How did you feel before you died?'
Nina looked at Hope. Thousands of answers swimming through her head, but she had to pick one, that was very clear.
'I felt loved.'
