Chapter fifteen
'Thanks, Indy.' I say. I smile weakly to my friend. She smiles back and walks out the door. She closes the door, but got opened immediately. Corbyn walks in.
'Hey gurl!' He yells. 'I hope your fine! And if your not, Corbyn is here to make you Fine today!' I smile and shake my head. He walks to me, grabs a chair and sits down. 'Whoow! I'm so hype today, you don't want to know. Oh, and Christina had to go home because it's her grandpa's birthday.'
'I don't mind.' I say. 'At least you're here.' He smiles. 'Can you help me to get up?'
'Of course.'
He stands up and grabs both of my hand. He pulls me up slowly and carefully.
'Thank you.'
I sit with my back against the cushions behind me for head support, and look at Corbyn.
'Way do you have with you?' I ask, when I see that he has a box in his hand.
'Oh, that was the thing!' He grabs the box and opens it. 'It's a box with cookies!! Zach gave it to me for you, he and the others wished you recovery.'
'W-wait? Y-you told them?!'
'No! Christina and I were smart and said that a friend was in the hospital. Not that it was you.' He says. I take a deep breath.
'Thank god.'
'Do you want a cookie?' He asks. 'I don't know if it's safe to eat them actually, Indy and Zach made them.'
'You can try first.' I laugh.
'Oh thank you. Poisoning me first! I would do the exact same thing.' I smile weakly. Corbyn grabs a cookie and takes a bite. 'It's a chocochip cookie.' he says. 'And it's amazing. Wow, they can cook. Here, take one.' I take one and take bite.
'It's good.' I say. 'It's really good.'
'I think they'll appreciate it.' Corbyn says. 'I really have to watch out that I won't eat all your cookies.' I shake my head. He started talking, but i'm not there with my mind. After a few minutes, he decide to ask him.
'Corbyn?'
'Hm?'
'How is he?' I see him shuffling in his chair.
'He misses you.' he says after a few seconds. He puts the box with cookies on the table next to my bed. 'Nina, Don't you miss him?'
'You know I miss him.' I say.
'Then don't you think it's time for him to know? It's been a month Nina. He was so upset that you left him again. He even cried in front of us the other night, saying he misses you a lot. I couldn't go and comfort him because I do not know what to say.' He confesses. 'I feel guilty. Seriously, I feel guilty. Really guilty.'
'I know. It's hard for you. You're his best friend.' I sigh again before looking outside the window. In the sky. 'I just... I couldn't bear seeing him go through pain because of me.'
'But he is already going to pain, Nina!' Corbyn says.
'It's only temporary. He'll move on eventually.' I say, keeping my voice sound cold. 'If he knew about my sickness, he'll carry the pain for a long time once I die.'
'Don't you think I'll carry the pain for a long time too?' He asks. I looked back at him. He's also taken aback by his words. 'Nina I-'
'I asked you. I asked you to leave me alone, bean. I didn't want you to stay and go through pain with me. But you insisted.' I tell him. 'Leave me alone now to save yourself.'
'N-no, Nina. I didn't mean it like that. I'm so sorry.' He takes my hand in his.
'I don't want to be the reason for your pain.' I try to pull my hand out of his, but he doesn't let go.
It's always drama. Every chapter of my life is full of drama. I'm getting tired and sick of it.
'Nina listen to me. I'm sorry but that's the truth. I'll be in pain for a long time if you do die. But never blame yourself because I choose this. I choose to be with you.' He says. 'Please consider chemotherapy again. I want you to get better. I don't want you to die. Jack is still waiting for you. He wants to be with you.'
'It's too late Corbyn. Indy already said how long I will get to live.' I whisper. I lay back down on the bed slowly. Tiredness is kicking in again. I need to sleep.
'W-w..- wait what?'
'I have two months, more or less.' I say, my voice tired. He lets go of my hand. He has a mixture of shock, fear and worry written on his face. 'Leave now, Corbyn. I need to sleep.' I sigh. Corbyn stands up and walks to the door. 'Oh, and Corbyn?'
'Hm?'
'Thank you for not telling Jack.'
'Yea, sure.' He walks out the door and closes him behind him. I take a deep breath and close my eyes completely.
Just push him away, Nina. That's all you do.
