Keith's pov
It has been a few weeks and I think I kind of accepted the way I feel. Damon and I have been taking things slow but every day my feelings for him are getting stronger. I want more, but I don't know how to tell him.
It would be weird to say "hey, I'm ready let's get it on!" I can only hope that showing him that I'm comfortable with him and whatever it is we have is enough.
This weekend my mom had to visit a distant aunt's funeral and since I didn't really knew her, I didn't have to go. Meaning I would have 2 nights for myself since she would leave on Friday.
Today it was Friday at yesterday I asked Damon in a moment of boldness if I could sleep over. It wasn't a necessarity, I was perfectly capable to care for myself. Damon had responded enthusiastic and that's why I was packing a bag with stuff after school.
My mom had said goodbye in the morning and let me know by text that she had arrived. Now the only thing I could think about was Damon. What if he got it all wrong! I didn't want him to have a wrong impression!
Are you ready? My mom just finished getting your bed ready. He texted and I checked everything twice before grabbing my bag, putting on a coat and leaving after locking the house. On my way I responded.
In my head the same question circled over and over and over again but when I stopped in front of his door I couldn't think about anything else but him. He opened the door and he looked so happy. He pulled me in and took the bag from me and started to bring it upstairs. He was gone before I had put my coat away.
"Hello Keith! It's so nice to have you here!" Rachel said as she pinched my cheeks. I truely loved that woman, she always made me feel welcome. "Thanks for having me, Rachel." I said with a smile.
"Keith! Come look at your bed!" Damon shouted from upstairs and I gave her an apologetic look before rushing up the stairs.
In Damon's room there was another bed, a meter from his own bed and on the guest bed sat Damon with a smirk. My bag had been placed besides the bed and I walked over to Damon.
He stood up and hugged me. "I'm so thrilled you're staying over!" He said slightly jumping up and down with me still in his arms. I got out of the uncomfortable position and laughed at his silly face.
The worries I had earlier were melted away and he pulled me to the tv and put on netflix. "I have been dying to watch this movie together and you need to watch the trailer. Tonight I'll make popcorn and we'll watch it. I'm sure you like it!" He said so fast I had a hard time hearing what he was saying.
He was right, the trailer made me just as excited as he was to watch the movie. We chatted a bit more about the movie and discussed which popcorn was better, sweet or salt and in the end Rachel called for dinner.
We ran down the stairs along with Damon's siblings and as soon as we took place at the table dinner was served. I knew Damon's mom loved to cook and it wasn't the first time I stayed for dinner. This time she made lasagne and she smiled at me as I grinned at her.
"I love lasagne." Sam sighed after a few bites. "Me too." I said and Sam shot me a smile. "It's okay." Toby said before he took another bite and I chuckled. In the time I had known the family Stone, I discovered Toby loved to use understatements. So whenever he said things were okay, it meant he liked it.
I caught Lucy staring at me while biting her lip and I swallowed some lasagne before speaking. "What's up Lucy?" I asked her and she sighed. "Well, usually Damon would cite me a little poem because it helps me to sleep. Don't tell me I'm too old for that, I am not, because they're not the bedtime stories he tells Sam, but poems. So I wondered if you too could cite me a poem." As serious as a twelve year old girl could.
"I'm not much of a poet, but if Damon helps me I think it'll be fine." I told her and she smiled at me. "Tell me a bedtime story then! Then the nightmares will stay away." Sam said. Although he was nine, he acted a bit young for his age sometimes. Damon told me he had trouble sleeping because of nightmares which wouldn't go away. But it helped to read him a story to take his mind of the fear.
"I would be honored to read you a story, Sam." "Yes!" He said and in his enthusiasm some lasagne flew from his fork over the table, causing everyone to laugh.
I looked at Damon who had the biggest smile of the world on his face and I knew mine was just as big.
Damon and I helped with the dishes and after that we played a game with the whole family. Even Drake was in for the game and competative as hell. "It's just monopoly, Drake!" Toby laughed at the face his brother pulled when he had to pay his mother.
My chest was filled with a lovely feeling. The feeling I had at my best moments with the family. The feeling I remembered having when my dad, mom and I had fun. The feeling that I never could have imagined having here, with Damon and his family as if it were mine.
Damon's pov
I was the luckiest person on earth to have a family like this and to have Keith in my life. I was proud of him and it was undiscribeable how it clicked between him and my parents and siblings. They all adored him and I couldn't have wished for anything else.
After the game it was time for Sam and Lucy to go to bed. While they were getting ready for bed my parents told embarassing stories about me while Drake and Toby filled in with details. I didn't mind for once because I loved the way Keith laughed. His eyes laughed along and were filled with joy.
When Sam yelled my name I pulled him with me to Sam's room leaving them still laughing about me. Sam laid in his bed and we took a seat kn both of his bedsides. He looked expectantly at Keith who cleared his troath and both Sam and me were enchanted by his story.
Once upon a time there was a prince, he lived happily in a castle and everything was well in his land. His father the king was an old friendly man who ruled the kingdom with his lovely wife by his side. But one day a dark wizard invaded the castle. He took the life from the king and queen but the prince managed to escape. The wizard cursed the kingdom which left everyone in darkness. They feared each day for their lives as the wizard ruled the kingdom with his minions, not knowing the prince was somewhere hidden in the woods just over the boarder. The prince was scared and his mind darkened with fear, sadness and despair. He made no attempt to regain his lang because he had no poeer to do so.
One day he met a girl, a hunter who also lived in the woods. They became friends and when the prince told her his story she stamped her foot onto the ground. "You can't let this darkness hold you back!" She said fierce and the prince knew she was right. "You're right and now I have found the light in the dark." He said and pointed at her when she looked at him with the question in her eyes. The prince became strong and together they sneaked into the castle and when the wizard wanted to kill the prince, he couldn't. The prince was brave and his heart was full of a light he had never had before, thanks to the hunter. Togehther they killed the wicked wizard and freed the kingdom. They were crowned king and queen and luved happily ever after.
Sam sighed at his story and so did I. "You can be the prince, Sam. You can find a light and find the dark nightmares." Keith said soflty and Sam thought about that before he nodded. "Yes I can. I'm prince Sam!" He said and swung with an imaginairy sword.
Keith and I both chuckled. "But princes also need to sleep, don't you think?" I said and tugged him in as he nodded. "Goodnight Sam." Keith said and I did the same, but Sam was dreaming already.
"Are you finally done?" Lucy asked annoyed as she saw us coming out of Sam's room. "Oh shut up Lucy, we know you don't mind staying up a little longer." I said teasing her and she smirked.
We sat on her bedsides as well. "Go!" She said and Keith sighed. "Uh roses are red..." "No! Don't evem dare to go further!" She said placing her hands over her ears. "You do it, Damon, maybe Keith will learn a thing or two from it." She said and I laughed at the sad face Keith pulled.
A vampire and his beloved girlfriend laid together
It was dangerous to love, they knew better
But they couldn't stop, their love to strong
And they wouldn't stop, it never felt wrong
The lady had to sleep and the vamp sighed sad
"I wish I could rest and dream, it makes me mad"
"But dear, just close your eyes and dream away"
"I can't love, my dreams would only betray"
"But they heal and take away any kind of fright"
"It's okay, just seeing you sleep is enough delight"
So she closed her eyes and slept through the night
And the vampire enjoyed this peaceful sight
Lucy clapped her hand as I finished my last words and I found Keith looking at me in awe. I winked at him, he told me how he lived the poems I wrote for him to accompany the roses and he blushed with a smile.
"Now go to slee, Lucy, I hear Toby coming upstairs already." She nodded and turned got under the blankets. She thanked me and we said goodnight.
In the hallway we saw Tony and wished him goodnight as well before walking back downstairs to get food and drinks forthe movie.
Back in my room we put everything on a little table and sat down on my little couch. I think I forgot to mention that our house was pretty big, we lived with seven people after all. Everyone had apart rooms, but I had claimed the biggest room, part of the attic. A small part of it was used as laundry room and to put stuff. Drake was older but he would move out soon.
I was about to turn on the movie before I turned to Keith, a question plopping into my mind.
"That story wasn't just about Sam, was it?" I asked him, already recieving his answer as he turned as red as a tomato. "No." He confirmed with a whisper.
"Do you want tk explain it to me?" I asked softly, making sure he would know that he didn't have to answer me.
He sighed deeply and looked me straight in the eyes. "I have faced darkness and I still do sometimes, but I know that I can always count on you and I think I have found my light in you." He said in one breath.
For a moment we just stared at each other, neither of us knowing how to respond. The next moment I found myself pressing my lips against his.
