Chapter 15 - Peace
Keith's pov
After a week the breakdown we shared was still fresh in my memory. It had been a weird week, with lots of sudden hugs and texts. Slowly we both felt better and things started to get back to normal.
Thanksgiving was coming soon and Damon and his parents invited me and my mom over. And since we were celebrating Thanksgiving with just the two of us so that we didn't have to choose between my grandparents, we happily accepted the invitation.
It was on a Wednesday when I wanted to take a bite from my cereal but got interupted by the doorbell. My mom, who had been a great support the past week, gave me a strange look when I stood up mirroring hers.
When I opened the door there was nobody there until Damon jumped from the side and startled me. I jumped back almost slamming the door in his face. While I just watched him with my eyes wide and a heart beating faster than it should he laughed so hard I was worried he'd wake up the whole neighbourhood.
"You shoud... have seen... your face!" He pushed the words out between waves of laughter. His laugh was intoxicatin and soon I was laughing along, grabbing him by the arm and pulling him inside.
"Goodmorning Damon." My mom greeted him with an amused smile. "Goodmorning Claire." He managed to say before erupting in giggles again. My mom and I shared a look while Damon joined us at the breakfast table.
"I'm sorry." He said after calming down. "I should explain my presence." Before me and my mom could tell him he was always welcome etcetera, he started talking again.
"I'm taking you to school. It's too cold to walk now and I don't mind leaving earlier to pick you up. And you can't decline." He said and with that he took away all my reasons for declining.
"Okay." I said somewhat surprised by his sudden gesture. He smiled in triumph at me and watched when I quickly finished breakfast. Because we were going by car we had some time left after breakfast, so we talked with my mom who had finally gotten a day off.
"Now it's time to leave." Damon said watching the time. I kissed my mom on the cheek and she wished the both of us a good day. Soon we were both sitting in Damon's car, or rather his mother's car and buckled up.
He started the engine and while took off. I watched as he stirred the wheel with skilled hands. His eyes were mostly on the road, but sometimes he glanced at me and shot me a smile. Oh his smile, how it made my knees weak and my heart flutter.
Way too soon we reached the school's parking lot. But instead of getting out, he stayed and I followed his example. He quickly checked all sides and in a swift move he leaned over and kissed me on my cheek. A smile crept to my face as we both got out of the car and rushed towards the entrance.
When I was done by my locker I went to his. He was talking to Luke, Jason and Bruce. I approached them. Damon told me they were nice and that it would be fun if I joined them in a conversation sometimes. So I gathered my mood before I came close enough to hear what they were saying.
"Hey." I said hoping it sounded more confident than I felt. "Hey Keith." Damon greeted me with the biggest smile. "Sup." Luke said and shot me a quick smile. Jason and Bruce mumbled something I couldn't hear, but I just assumed it was some kind of greeting.
We conversed about Thanksgiving and the Holidays that would follow in the month after until the bell rang, meaning we all had to go to our classes. "Why don't you both join us for lunch break?" Luke said before walking away with Jason and Bruce.
"Being social isn't that bad, right?" Damon asked while we walked to out class. I shrugged, not knowing how I was supposed to react. Talking to them was like walking on a balance cord, I was scared to make a bad move.
Together with Damon time flew by and the bell for lunch break rang. "Do you want to go sit with Luke and the others?" I asked him slightly nervous for his answer. Since we were together he stopped sitting with them during the breaks and we would go and eat something at the cafe which was not very far.
He shook his head. "No, I want to go to the cafe with you." He said with a smirk. I couldn't help but feel flattered. He'd rather hang out with me than with his other friends. We decided to walk to the cafe as we always do and got one of the tables next to the window.
It was our little ritual and that made me beyond happy. Together we ordered a plate with lots of different sandwiches with coffee. He drank his coffee black while I drank it with lots of sugar and a little bit of milk.
"Do you want to come over this afternoon?" I asked before taking another bite of a tuna sandwich. He nodded with enthusiasm and swallowed a bite before starting about the games he wanted to play.
I wasn't listening at all, instead I studied his face. It wasn't the first time I wondered what I did to deserve him. This hansome human being that would sometimes change in a little kid when he was in a playful mood or talking about games.
This angel that somehow managed to change my life from a disaster to a life with joy. All the little things I liked about him. His sharp drawline with three small birthmarks on a row at his right side, his lips that were so soft and their color perfectly matched with his skin tone, which was absurdly toned. His dark brown hair that would always be messy, not matter how much time he spent on fixing it, he liked that. His nose, sharp and defined, his eyes. I know, but I can't shut up about them. When he would sit in the sunlight, like he was now, his eyes had golden glow and his long lashes finished it off.
I sighed deeply making Damon chuckle. "Like what you see? If you stare any longer I will expect you to worship me like a God." He said jokingly, if only he knew. My cheeks turned pink and I looked at the mountain of sandwiches which shrinked to only two sandwiched. We both took one and paid for the bill.
"About the staring," Damon started, making me nervous "I love staring at you too." He whispered while bending over the table. He smiled at me, proud that he made me look like a tomato again.
Sadly our next class would start soon, so there came an end to our heavenly lunch. Back at school I couldn't stop thinking about Damon and what I wanted to do with him this afternoon. Obviously he wanted to game, but I actually also wanted to just sit with him and be with him.
Maybe I should man up and push away my fears about kissing and touching and stuff like that, he had always respected my space and with how things were going now I thought it would be a good thing to start acting like a boyfriend.
So later when I walked to Damon's car where he was already waiting for me, I had a big smile plastered on my lips. "You're in a good mood." He said. "What's the occasion?"
I looked at him and saw the amused twinkle in his eyes I liked so much. "You are of course." I said surprising him. I was going to enjoy this afternoon with him, I'd make sure of that.
Damon's pov
All the way back to his house, Keith was smiling. He said I was the reason for his mood, but I couldn't think of a thing I did to make him this happy. I wasn't complaining though, I loved when he was happy and cheerful. It made me happy and forget about things that could go wrong.
When we arrived I could barely greet his mother because he grabbed my hand and pulled me upstairs to his room. "What's the rush?" I laughed while I stood in the middle in the room. What had gotten into him?
He closed the door and turned around to face me. I saw hesitation in his eyes. "Is something wrong, Keith?" I asked a little worried and a little confused. I shook his head and slowly walked over to me. We just stared each other in the eyes, I tried to figure out what was going on in his head. He just dragged me to his room and now he stood here, frozen and deep in thought.
I gave him a reassuring smile and pulled him in an embrace. He seemed nervous, confused and as if he was hesitant to do or say what? I felt him relax in my arms and held him back. I looked in his eyes, his gorgeous eyes who were now full of something unknown. I never saw that in his eyes before, but it gave me the sudden urge to kiss him.
I brought my face closer, leaving space and time for him to pull away, but he didn't. In fact he did the opposite, he came closer, meeting my lips in the middle. His lips were so soft and they moved carefully against mine.
My hands glid from his shoulders, over his ribs and stopped at his waist. I pulled him closer wrapping my arms around him fully while deepening the kiss. His arms found it's way around my neck where his hands started playing with my hair. I liked that a lot, i liked every single thing. Our lips moved together, tangled in their own dance. I wanted to cross the non-existing space between us and pressed him tighter against me. His body against mine felt too good to be true, it fitted perfectly and I wouldn't want it any other way.
Too soon we had to break our kiss to breath. I put my forehead against his, barely touching his nose with mine. One of my hands left his back and caressed his cheek. We just stayed there for a while, keeping that moment alive before I let go of him after planting another kiss on his lips.
"Let's just watch a movie together." I suggested. He nodded and we went downstairs. "Where are you going, mom?" Keith asked when we saw his mother with her jacket and handbag. "I'm going to visit Astrid, we haven't seen each other in ages." She said. "I'll be back before dinner." and with that she left.
I sat down at the couch and Keith put on a movie before laying his head against my shoulder with my arm around him. I would never grow tired of holding him like this. It was so relaxing and made me feel like everything was at peace.
Halfway through the movie I noticed Keith couldn't stop touching his lips. "What is it?" I asked softly. "They're swollen." Keith said with laughter in his voice. I laughed and he joined me after a few seconds.
"Sorry for making your lips swell." I whispered, schocking mysefl with how deep my voice sounded. He got up and looked at me with a smile on his lips. "Don't be, I like the reason that they're swollen." He said with a soft and shy voice.
The look he gave me made my heart race and the butterflies in my stomach exploded. I pulled him closer, pressing my lips on his again. "So you like that huh?" I asked teasingly breaking the kiss. He was breathless, only able to nod with his adorable pink cheeks. I smiled and this time he took me by surprise when shutting my moth with a kiss.
When someone in the movie screamed, Keith jumped and fell on the ground. I couldn't hold my laughter when I saw his startled face. "You okay?" I managed to ask. He nodded and laughed about it while climbing on the couchagain.
Moments later he spoke again. "Do you understand anything of the movie?" I chuckled. "Nope." So we turned the movie off and watched some tv in the same position we were in earlier.
The time went by quickly and soon it was time for me to go. "I don't want to get up." Keith whined when I said I had to leave. "Me neither, but my grandparents are coming over for dinner." We both sighed at the same time and Keith got up. I grabbed my things and when I was about to leave, Keith stopped me, throwing his arms around my neck and kissing me. I dropped my bag and kissed him back. We didn't notice the keys in the lock, so when his mom came in we jumped apart, both cherry red.
She had a little smile on her lips as she looked between me and Keith. "Hello boys." She said with twinkles in her eyes. I grinend and said goodbye to her. I gave Keith a kiss on his cheek while he was still in some kind of shock before leaving for real.
I started the engine and sighed. Oh Keith, what are you doing to me? I looked at myself in the mirror seeing how red my face was. My lips were also swollen and my hair messier than usual. I opened the window a little to cool down and tried to make my hair look like the ususal mess.
He didn't mind me kissing him, he didn't mind me touching him, he didn't mind kissing me! Was all I could think of. I was happy and proud of myself that I lived up to my promise of enjoying my time with Keith. It could only get better, couldn't it?
