Epilogue

***Last chapter! I'm so happy you guys decided to stick around with me for this long ***

*Five years later*
~Brendon's Point of View~

Her dark golden curls bounced on her shoulders as she ran around the living room, giggling and throwing her new stuffed fox into the air. A smile spread wide across her face. I could watch her for forever. She had so much innocence and laughter within her. So much beauty in one tiny body. And I'm so happy to call her my daughter.

"Melody." I called over to her. She stopped in her tracks and turned her head in my direction, her big brown eyes glowing with excitement. "You still have another present from me, ya goof."

She hopped over to me and took the small gift box from my hand, all the while, never letting go of her fox. Her tiny fingers ripped through the wrapping paper, reveling a small jewelry box. She opened the lid and a squeal came out of her mouth.

"Its just like mommy's!" She glanced up at me and smiles. It was the music note necklace I had given to Hannah when we were teenagers. She told me she had wanted to give it to our child if we had a girl. And I don't think I could have had it any other way.

There were so many memories built within that small piece of metal. Never did I think it would make it through everything we've been through together. And honestly I'm surprised she's kept it all these years. But I thought it best to give it to Melody for her fifth birthday.

"Come here, let me put it on you." She handed me the necklace, hopping up and down with excitement. I had her turn away from me as I placed the necklace around her neck. Once it was clipped, she turned back around and looked down at her chest where the metal rested. "You look beautiful."

Though she was only five years old, you could definitely see that she took more after Hannah. From her hair, to her skinny frame. I think the only thing she got from me was her eyes, even though people say that she took on more of just one of my features. But I didn't see it. To me, she was a miniature Hannah, and I honestly couldn't have asked for anything better.

"Alright Melody." I smiled down at her, whom was still in awe over her mothers necklace. "Go get dressed and we're going to go to Uncle Ryan's house today." Her head lifted upwards and she smiled even more. "I left an outfit on your bed."

She squealed with joy as she practically ran up the stairs. She hasn't seen Ryan is a few months, so I thought it would be good for the both of them.

"Daddy!" She yelled from the top of the stairs. I got up off the couch and walked over towards the bottom, looking up at her. It had only taken her a matter of two minutes to put on her black and pink pajama pants and her bright pink long sleeved shirt with a butterfly print on the front. Definitely not the outfit I had placed on her bed. And she hated that shirt. She wasn't a big fan of pink to begin with. Honestly I think she only wore it to spit not having to wear what I put out for her. "Catch me!" She jumped down step by step until she was just close enough to jump into my arms.

I let out a laugh as she was just a giggling mess in my arms as I carried her back upstairs into her room. Letting go of my grip on her, she plopped down onto her bed. And I noticed the clothes that I had lied out for her earlier weren't on her bed anymore, but under it. It was as if she were trying to hide it.

"Ellie," I quickly grabbed the small black dress she was stashing underneath her bed and hold it out to her, "I thought I told you to put this on?"

"I don't wanna." She crossed her arms over her chest and pouted at me.

"You picked it out yourself and said you wanted to wear it for your birthday." I knelt down in front of her, uncrossing her tiny arms. A small smile formed on her face. She was never one to keep a straight face. She was always smiling and giggling.

"I don't wanna now." She looked up at me. Her big dark brown eyes stared into mine.

"You're just like your mother." I sighed and stood up. There was no winning with this. And knowing my daughter, she'll wear it later and run around the house with it on backwards. "Let's get you into something that matches at least."

"But black matches everything!" She threw her arms into the air and fell backwards on her bed. I picked her up and spun her around in my arms, causing her to go into a fit of giggles.

"You are so your mothers child." I laughed and place her back down onto her bed and walk over to her dresser. Pulling out a pair of black jeans and a tiny purple flannel type of thing. When we went shopping, the shirt was originally in the boys section, but Melody would not leave until we got her the purple one. I'm definitely not raising a girly girl, that's for sure.

"Feel better now?" I asked her as I finished buttoning up her tiny shirt. A giant grin forms across her face and she nodded.

Her body turned away from me and she ran to her mirror, twirling around in front of it. I even caught a glance of her smoothing out her shirt and making little faces at her reflection. Her tiny hands went through her hair a few times and she let out a frustrated sigh before doing it a few more times. If I was ever concerned whether or not this was my child (not that I ever was) then it was at this moment where I realized just how much she was like me. Not only did she have my eyes, but she had my attitude, my personality.

"You look beautiful." I snuck up behind her, though she knew I was already there because of her mirror, and I lifted her into my arms causing her to go into a fit of giggles.

"I was copying you when you get ready!" She threw her arms around me and giggled some more. "Was it good, Daddy?" She pulled herself away from me, still in my arms though, and she poked my nose.

I couldn't help but smile. She was perfect.

"It was spot on." I say, walking out of her bedroom door and begin to walk down the steps. "I couldn't even tell the difference!"

~~~
"You wanna knock on his door?" I looked at Melody in my arms, who had been resting her head on my shoulders. But she immediately straightened her back and nodded furiously.
I placed her down on the ground and she turned towards the house. Her tiny hands started banging on the door. There was barking behind it as she was knocking, which resulted in Melody to jump back for a second out of surprise.
"Dottie!" The muffled voice of Ryan sounded from inside. "Get away from the door." And a few seconds later the door opens to reveal Ryan trying to keep Dot from running outside.
"Uncle Ryro!" Melody wasn't paying any mind to Dot whom was whipping her tail back and fourth, excited to get some company. She ran into Ryan's house and hugged his leg until he picked her up in his arms.
"Hey! Happy birthday miss Melody." He spun her around in a circle as I walked into his house, closing the door behind me.
"She would not shut up about you the entire the way here." I let out something that sounded like a mix of a chuckle and a dying animal. It was strange to say the least. But neither of them seemed to really notice, or care too much about it.
And just as I had suspected, Ryan carried her away into the living room. I swear he wanted to steal her away from me sometimes. His reasoning was always "She reminds me so much of Hannah when she was younger, I can't help it." And as cute as that may sound, its not. It gets a little out of hand sometimes. It had gotten to the point where when I was picking Melody up after my tour with Weezer, and he refused to let me leave with her. He stood I'm front of the door, blocking any sort of way out of the house. And of course it had pissed me off, since I had just gotten back in town from tour and just wanted to take my baby girl home with me.
So yeah, Ryan is a little obsessive over my daughter.
"When did you say her party was again?" Ryan asked as I followed him into the other room. He had glanced up at me, only for a second, before looking back down at Melody. Every once in awhile scrunching up his face causing a giggle to escape her tiny frame.
"This Saturday." I explained to him. Bringing myself to sit down on the couch next to him, Dot had managed to somehow get underneath me. And she would not move from that spot. It was as if this dog hated me and claimed her position on the couch before I could even sit down. "Its nothing big. Just inviting a few friends over. Its gonna be you, Spencer and Linda, Dallon and Breezy, Kat and Kenny, Andy and Joe, and Patrick said he might try to make it if Elisa isn't still sick. And we all know that if Patrick comes, then Pete will show. Oh and Zack."
There wasn't anymore conversation between either of us after that. He had just given me a nod, not exactly focused on anything I had to say.
And about an hour had passed since then, Ryan nor I had made any sort of attempt to talk to one another unless Melody had said something that applied to us both.
"Daddy." Her high pitched voice cut through the silence that had formed between us all.
"Yes, Ellie?" I turn my attention to her, relieved that she was asking me something so I didn't have to sit here and watch Ryan making these strange faces any longer.
"I wanna go see Mommy." I sighed, remembering that I had told her we would only be at Ryan's for so long.  She hopped off of his lap and stood directly in front of me, her brown eyes gazing into mine. "I wanna pick her flowers today."
"Of course you can pick her flowers, baby girl." A smile formed across my lips as her face lit up with joy as I said those words. "I'm sure she'll fall in love with the flowers you pick out for her." Standing up from my position on the couch (a relief since Dot had still been laying behind me, and I was a lazy-ass not wanting to take the effort to move to a different part of the couch) I walked over to the front of Ryan's house, both him and Melody close behind.
Before I get the chance to open the door, Ryan doesn't hesitate to pull me into a hug (something he hasn't done in years). A little taken aback from his actions, I wasn't sure how to react. So I just kinda stood there while he hugged me.
"Say hello to Hannah for me." He pulled away from me and smiled.
"I will." And for the first time in a long time, I smiled back at him. Not in an every day whatever kind of smiles. One of those genuine kinda of smiles. "Come on Ellie, let's go pick mommy some flowers."
~~~

A good thirty minutes had passed at the nearby floral shoppe from Melody running about picking all the flowers she thought Hannah would love. And if she had it her way, it would be pretty much every single thing that would count as nature within this acute place. So we had settled on a few that I pointed out to her that I knew for a fact that Hannah had fallen in love with. She was always so simple, yet unique. She loved lily's. Any kind of lily actually. So that was what the bouquet consisted mostly of.

And now it came to the moment I had been dreading this entire day. Melody was always excited to see her. Though I'm not quite sure she understands the concept of this yet, but it still brings her joy.

It had become a routine now. I get Hannah flowers and show up to the place where she was, I take my time getting out of the car, help Melody out of her car seat and let her hold the flowers, take her hand and walk in with my eyes closed. I had grown so used to visiting so much, that I didn't even have to look where I was going to know where she was. My feet just took me there. And each time, I sang as I walked. I sang the song I had written with the words Hannah had given me that night in the hospital. I originally didn't want to write in those words, they were meaningful to me. It got me through that time. Hell, it still gets through the days, not only for myself but for Melody as well. And I though that those words might get others through the day too.

I've grown so accustomed to singing my way to Hannah, that I've timed it perfectly. As soon as I get to that part in the song, I was there. And I would stop in my tracks and slowly open my eyes, tears escaping, I sang out the words as I read them on the cold smooth stone in front of me.

"Time can never break your heart but it'll take the pain away."

***The series is finally over! Please don't kill me. I've honestly had this idea for a long time (though unsure of which way I wanted to go about it) and I felt like this would be a solid end to this.
I was actually going to make this a happy ending, but if y'all know me, that's too boring to write.
But again (I know it may seem like I say this way too much, but I mean it) Thank you all SO SO SO much for reading my story. It means so much to me and I honestly wouldn't have gone this far without all of your support. I love you all.
Its going to be strange to not stress over trying to update this story any longer. But I think this is a good stopping point.
Again, thank you all! I love all of you so much***
