Chapter 13

The past hour at the café had been extremely odd, considering I discovered a sister that I didn't even know I had. I'm gonna have so much fun trying to explain all of this to Ryan. Its exciting news, dont get me wrong; Ryan just hates the topic of our father being brought up. Even more so since Brendon and I got married.

Luna had offered to pay for our lunch, even after Brendon refused and handed her money anyway. It seemed as if he was still a little off about this whole situation. And I honestly dont blame him. It was..strange to say the least, that now all of a sudden I was informed about this. Why now?

"Come on, Hannah." Brendon stood up and took ahold of Bogart and Penny's leashes. "Let's get back home so we can relax for a little while." Brendon was eyeing Luna from across the patio, a smug look rested on his face. I nodded in response, not wanting to speak about what he was thinking at the moment.

"Oh so soon?" Luna grabs our attention as we're walking away from the table where we once were. Brendon froze in his tracks. He closed his eyes and bit his lip, taking in a deep breath. What was up with him?

"You know," Brendon turned towards her. The grip on the dogs leashes that he had, strengthened. "We have stuff to do. So we're leaving." His voice was low but it had a warning tone to it. Why was he acting like this? Brendon is never usually like this with people.

"Oh well uhm, it was nice to meet you." A stray strand of her bright red hair fell into her face as she tried her best to smile.

"It was nice to meet you too." I tried to break the tension as Brendon walked off out of the café. "I'm sorry about him, he's not having the best of days today." A forced smile spread across my face before I ran after my, seemingly, outraged husband.

He continued to walk down the street as if nothing had happened back at the café. Both dog leashes still firmly grasped in his hands.

"What the hell happened back there?" His face showed no signs of opening up to me on the subject. It was as if he completely ignored my question. "Brendon!" His name rolled off my tongue a little louder than I had intended, but sure enough it got his attention. We both stopped in our tracks and he turned to face me. His eyes showed a touch of anger.

"I get a bad vibe from her." He said through gritted teeth. His eyes closed for a second before he opened them again, this time a little softer. "I'm sorry I reacted that way. I just wanted to leave as soon as possible." He glanced down to the ground then back up at me a few times before he began to walk again.

The rest of the walk home was silent between us. Neither one of us spoke, or even attempted to. I didn't exactly know what to say in return to his comment, and I'm pretty sure he didn't want to speak on the matter anymore to begin with. But it still bothered me how much this new person was affecting him.

I couldn't help to wonder though. What if she wasn't actually my sister? What if she was just a girl with the same maiden name as me, and had a similar outcome with her father? But at the same time, she could be right. She got every fact about mine and Ryan's lives and her representation on 'our' father, spot on. All of this sudden information was confusing me.

"I'm gonna take a drive to Ryan's." I say as Brendon unhooks the dogs from their leashes. And they instantly ran into the living room and on the couch.

"You okay to drive yourself?" Brendon replies, not even looking in my direction as he followed the dogs into the other room.

"Yeah, I'll be fine." I grab my car keys that were hanging on the wall. "I'll be back in a little while, I love you ." Standing there for a few moments, I waited for Brendon to say something, anything in return. But he didn't. I assumed that he had still been upset from the past events at the café, but godamn at least say something. I rolled my eyes and walked out the door, a little angry that Brendon hadn't said anything to me.

It was convenient that we just so happened to live about a twenty minute drive away from Ryan's house, though it wasn't originally supposed to be that way. So it didn't take too long to get over there if I wanted to see him.

"Hey Hannah." Ryan opened his front door, rubbing his eyes as if he just woke up. "What are you doing here? Is Brendon with you?" He leaned out past the doorframe and looked at my car.

"No, just me." I smiled at him, though his gaze wasn't directed towards me.

When he did finally look at me, I noticed that it looked like he hadn't slept in days. He had bags under his eyes and his hair was literally everywhere. You could even see some stubble beginning to grow on his face. He had on an old pair of sweatpants and a tank top that looked like he had been wearing for a few days. I remember when Ryan used to get like this all the time. Mostly because when he got into the mood and got an idea for a new song, he wouldn't stop until he was happy with it. And sometimes it would take days, and he would end up changing it in the future anyways.

"Well come in Hannah." Ryan stepped aside so that way I was able to step into his house.

"I actually wasn't planning on staying for long." I stepped inside though anyway. And his house was as messy as it used to be in the past. Well 'messy' on a Ryan Ross level. He had papers all over the place filled front and back with ideas for music. Though he wasn't in a band anymore, that didn't stop him from writing and producing music. "I actually have a question for you."

"Well, ask away." Ryan walked into his kitchen and grabbed a coffee mug, taking a sip of whatever was inside before turning his attention back to me.

"Well," I said, following him into the kitchen, "its not actually a question, but more of a clarification. So Brendon and I went to this cafe earlier today. And there was a waitress there, who had also been my nurse when I had gone to the hospital after the miscarriage thing. You remember?" He nodded in response. "Well she came up to us and claimed that she's apparently our...sister."

Ryan's eyes grew wide and the grip on his coffee mug loosened, causing it to crash into pieces on the hardwood floor. But the broken pieces and hot liquid didn't seem to phase him as his gaze was fixated on me. Honestly, it was a little frightening.

"What?" His fists clenched into fists. "That fucking bitch!" At that moment Ryan grabbed the edge of the countertop in a tight hold. His eyes closed as his whole body shook with anger.

I was confused and stood there in shock of his reaction. Why was this making him so angry?

"Ryan?" I stepped closer to him, trying to avoid the broken mug on the ground. "What's going on?" He stayed quiet. His chest expanded as he took in deep breaths, hopefully to calm himself down.

"I knew about her." Ryan finally says, breaking the silence. "Luna. Right?" He stayed the the same position, eyes still closed.

"Yeah." I replied.

"I've known Luna for quite awhile now. Since we were children actually." Ryan's eyes finally opened and his head turned towards me, his eyes softer than they had been moments ago.

"And how come I've never heard about her until now?" I crossed my arms over my chest.

"Because I didn't want you too." He replied. "Everything having to do with that asshole always got you upset. And I thought that if you found out about Luna then things would just be worse. And she found me a few weeks ago. But I wanted nothing to do with her. I told her to never talk to you because you've been put through a ton of bullshit from all of this already. And what does she do? Go behind my back and talk to you anyway."

"Ryan, you can't just hide the fact of us having a sister!" He looked down at the floor for a second.

"I was trying to help your mental health, Hannah!" Ryan straighted his back from leaning on the counter. His hands turned into fists again, and his eyebrows lowered into a scowl. "I was trying to spare you from spiraling downwards again, especially now that you have a future child on the way! And unless you want to loose that one too, I'd advise you to stay away from her." He stood there for a moment before he angrily pushed passed me to go into the other room.

"I want to know what's so terrible about her." I followed him into the living room where Ryan was now sitting on the arm of his leather couch. "I'd at least like to know a better reason as to why I should 'stay away from her'."

This was a far more complex situation than I had thought it out to be. My intentions where to simply tell Ryan about this, and have him reacts totally different way, maybe even going to meet her and stay in contact or something.

"Hannah," Ryan sighed, "She did something that I could never forgive her for."

"And what is that exactly?" I walk over and stand in front of him. His gaze was fixated towards the floor.

"I'll tell you some other time." His head slowly shifted upwards. His eyes were red as a tear rolled down his cheek. "I can't risk you loosing that baby from all of this. Just please believe me, that its just something that I never wanted you to find out. It could ruin all that you've built up from these years." Ryan stood up and wrapped his arms around me in a tight hug.

Once he released his arms, he wiped away another tear beginning to form. I still didn't quite understand why it was such a big deal as to why Luna angered him. But if it gave him a reaction like this, then it must have been serious. And I guess I'm just gonna have to respect that.
