31: Settling in

Scott and I were sleeping when we felt two little people jump into bed with us, waking us both up.

"Mommy, wake up," Kami said as she pressed on me.

"Do you think they're dead," Georgia asked.

"I don't think so."

Scott and I opened one eye and looked at them as we laughed. As they talked about what most five-year-olds talk about, Scott popped up, causing them to scream and grab them. Then he started tickling them, making them laugh.

"Daddy!" Georgia squealed.

Scott stopped tickling them, "What?"

"You're not dead! Yay!"

"No, Princess, I'm not dead," he laughed. "Now, what do we owe to this wake-up call?"

"We're hungry, Daddy," Kami said, letting Daddy slip.

Scott looked at her, and without correcting or making a big deal, he said, "Okay, princess two. You both head downstairs, and we will be right there."

"Okay," they said as they climbed off and ran out of the room.

I sat up and looked at him.

"Kami called me daddy," he said, a bit surprised. He looked at me as I smiled.

"Well, it only fits that she does since you and I are going to be married one day," I told him.

He smiled, leaned in, and kissed me.

"I can't wait."

We got out of bed and made our way downstairs. We heard the girls playing and walked into the kitchen to figure out what we were having for breakfast. One little problem: We haven't gone shopping yet. So we decided to take the girls out to breakfast and then go to the grocery store. This trip should be fun.

As we got ready, Scott said, "I was thinking."

"That's dangerous," I said to him, earning a look that made me giggle.

"Have you ever thought about having more kids?"

I stopped and looked at him, "What?"

"Kids. You know the sound of the pitter-patter of little feet?"

"I know what kids are, you dink."

"Well, what do you think," he asked as he pulled a shirt over his head.

"It's a lot to think about with us both working," I told him.

"But, now, hear me out." I looked at him as he walked over to me. What if you stayed home until they went to school? Then you could return to work. That way, the girls could have more stability, and you could enjoy being with them."

I thought about it, "The last time that happened, I ended up divorced."

He gave me a look as he wrapped his arms around me, "I don't ever plan on divorce. I plan on growing old with you."

I looked at him as I said, "Shouldn't we get married first and deal with the adoption before making a big decision about more kids?"

He sighed, "Yeah, I suppose you're right."

"Scott, I'm not saying no, but I am saying let's deal with other things first," I told him, and he kissed me. We left the room to collect the girls.

I thought about what he said, wanting to have more kids. I never thought about it. Although I never figured it would happen to be single. But everything changed when I met Scott. Our meeting flipped my world upside down that night.

                                    ********
We loaded the kids into the car, then got in ourselves, and Scott drove us to a diner for breakfast. After breakfast, we went to the grocery store.

We found a booth and sat down.  The waitress came and took our orders, then walked away. As we sat there talking, I heard an all too familiar screech.

"Oh my god," they exclaimed.

We turned to see Tabitha standing there with her chest practically hanging out.

"Well, if it isn't all high and mighty and the slut," she snarled.

"Mommy?  What's a slut?"  Kami asked.

I looked at her, "I'll explain later, baby."

"Oh, a slut is your mommy. They sleep around," she sneered.

"Tabitha, I would advise you to leave," Scott said through gritted teeth.

"Excuse me, but I don't work for you. I'm allowed to be wherever I want.  It's funny. I thought you were gay when I tried to get with you, only to find out you were banging the office whore," she snapped.

"Daddy, I don't like this person.  She's mean," Georgia said.

"Shut up, you brat!  No one cares what you have to say," she yelled at Georgia, causing Georgia to recoil. That's all it took. Scott got up and grabbed her by the arm.

"No one will talk to my family like that!"

"Ow, you're hurting me," she whined.

"Good, I don't like women like you. I never have and never will. Now, I will only say this once: leave, or I will help you," he said in a low tone.  I had never seen Scott so angry except with Victoria.  The girls were terrified.

She yanked her arm away and then backed away as she slithered out of the diner, not saying a word.

He turned and crouched down. "Georgia, Kami, come here, girls," he coaxed. They slowly slid out of the booth and stood before him. "I'm sorry you saw that or heard that. You didn't need to. Sometimes, people can be mean or nasty, and we must deal with them. But I promise you, I will do everything I can to protect you and your mommy."

They nodded as he held out his arms to them. They hugged him, and he wrapped his arms around them. If there was anything I learned about Scott, it was that when it came to his family, he would protect them with his life.

"Now, let's sit down and enjoy breakfast like a family," he said to them.

"Okay," they both said as they kissed him on each cheek before getting back onto the booth chair.

He took a seat, and I looked at him.

"What?"

"Nothing," I shrugged until it hit him with the look.

He shook his head, "Later."

We ate our breakfast and then headed to the grocery store. I had a feeling that later would be quite interesting.

                               ********
After breakfast, we went to the store to pick up groceries. Have you ever shopped with a guy and two kids? It's like having to shop with three kids. Whenever I turned around, someone was putting junk food in the cart: Scott. I immediately put it back. The girls? It was the same thing.

Then they ganged up on me with three against one. That was so not fair.  I finally relented and allowed them all to get a treat. If I didn't, we would never get done, and I wanted to get home to unpack some more.

Scott took the girls to find something while I looked down another aisle. I found what I was looking for until I stood up and came face to face with some random guy.

"Hi."

"Hi," I said as I maneuvered around him and put the item in my cart.

"I couldn't help but notice you," he said, following me while I tried to walk away.

"That's nice, but I'm kind of busy," I said as I picked up another item, hoping he would take a hint.

"I thought we could go out and have dinner, maybe a movie," he suggested.

"Uh, no thanks. My fiancé wouldn't like that," I said as I kept walking, and he kept following me.

"Hey, look, I'm trying to be nice, and all you're doing is giving me the brush off. So, what do you say?"

I stopped and looked at him, "Look, I tried to give you a hint, but you're not listening. I'm engaged. I have two daughters. I'm not interested. Now, please leave me alone," I said to him with a glare and my arms folded.

He ended up grabbing my arm, "Listen, bitch. No one, and I mean no one, talks to me that way. Maybe I should show you what a real man looks like."

Someone tapped him on the shoulder. As soon as he turned, he got met with Scott's fist, falling onto the ground.

"Go, Daddy," Georgia yelled.

He leaned over the guy and said, "I believe my fiancé said she wasn't interested."

The guy looked at Scott.

"But then again, I could be wrong." Scott looked at me as I shook my head, then turned back to the guy, "Nope, not wrong. I would suggest that you listen the next time a lady tells you they aren't interested. You have a nice day now."

With that, he stood up and took the cart as the girls and I followed him.

"Daddy hits hard," Kami said.

"He's sort of like Batman," Georgia said casually.

"Maybe he is Batman."

"That would be so cool. My daddy is Batman," Georgia said, trying to imitate Batman's voice. I couldn't help but laugh.

We finally got through grocery shopping and walked out to the car; the girls climbed into the back seat while we loaded the groceries.

"It seems I'm going to need to come shopping with you more often," Scott said.

"I can shop alone, you know."

"Considering guys like that roam the aisles, I don't think so."

"There's always going to be some guy or girl that thinks they can come between us. It's up to us if we allow it to happen," I told him.

He looked at me as he pulled me to him, "It's a good thing I'm not allowing it to happen because you belong to me, and I belong to you. We're a team. It's us against the world."

"What about us, daddy?" Georgia asked.

"You girls, too," he said as they cheered. Then he leaned over and whispered, "Although having another boy in the house would be great, so I'm not completely overrun with the female persuasion."

"What, are you worried about being outnumbered by women?" I teased.

"In a sense, yes," he answered.

I laughed, "You do realize that guys determine the sex of the baby, and it's a fifty-fifty chance of either sex."

"Well, let's hope my little swimmers decide to help me out and give me a boy one day," he said as I laughed—only Scott, who was always thinking ahead.

First things first, we need to deal with the situation at work, then get married and deal with the adoption before I even gave thought to possibly having another baby.

However, I had a feeling that something would happen this week that would change everything.
