Ziam: Problem children
This is my story and it's not narrated. It's in point of view so it's different but oh well. I'll go back to narration after this one.
*Zayn's POV*
"Zayn!" I hear from upstairs. I run upstairs to see what was wrong.
"Is something wrong Liam?" I asked. I walked over to Liam's side. He was sitting on the bed, rubbing his 8 month pregnant belly.
"I don't know. Something just doesn't feel right. Neither of them are moving," Liam complains.
"Well maybe they're both sleeping," I suggest. Liam looks at me then his stomach.
"I don't know. It just doesn't feel right. This has never happened before," he says.
"Should we go to the doctors and see what's causing this?" I ask. Liam nods and asks for help to stand up. I help him up and we walk out the door together.
We pull up to the emergency room entrance and I help Liam out of the car. We're greeted by a nurse inside the doors. "Hello gentlemen. What seems to be the problem?"
"Um the twins haven't moved in a while now and it's worrying us. They've never done this and he's 8 months," I explain. The nurse nods after I'm done and we are led to an ultrasound room. Liam pulls up his shirt over his belly and lays back on the bed.
"Careful, this will be cold," the nurse said. She squirted the gel on Liam's belly and placed the the wand on the blob. She moved it around a little before saying, "And there's your twins."
Liam and I sighed in relief that they were there. "Okay. Let's listen to the heartbeats." The nurse turned the monitor off but kept the wand on his stomach. We didn't hear anything. "That's weird. I'm going to go get Dr. Drew. I'll be right back."
Dr. Drew came in a few minutes later. "Alright boys. Let's see if we can get those heartbeats up." He put the wand back on Liam's stomach and moved it around. "Oh no."
"What? What's wrong?" I asked.
"There's no heartbeats. They stopped breathing. Dr. Linskey, go get the operating room ready. We have to get these babies out stat!" He instructed. "Liam, I'm just going to get your anesthesia shot although it'll just numb the waist down."
"Uhh o-okay," Liam stuttered. The doctors left and it was just Liam and I, worrying about what'll happen next. "Zayn, I'm scared."
"I know. I am too. But we just have to trust the doctors now. That's all we can do," I comforted. A surgeon came in and came to help Liam.
"We're going to get you on to a bed and bring you to the operating room," the doctor said. I helped Liam on to the bed and he laid down. I followed the doctor who was wheeling Liam to the room.
Later, Liam was hooked up to all machines and the doctors were about to begin the c-section. "Okay, Liam. You're going to feel a slight pinch."
I held onto Liam's hand and looked into his beautiful brown eyes. "Just think. In a few minutes, were going to be daddies."
"Yeah but they're not breathing. How do we even know if we're still daddies?" Liam cried.
"Because. They're our strong prince and princess. The doctors are going to clear their airways and and do whatever else they need to do and their going to make them breath again," I comforted.
*Liam's POV*
I was about to say something when I felt a release from my abdomen. "Baby A is a girl!" The doctors said. I couldn't bare to look at her though. I don't want to look at our dying daughter. "Go get her breathing again while we get baby B out!"
2 doctors took away our little girl and the other 3 started on our little boy. I felt a pinch and a release. "And baby B is a boy!" They announced. "Go get him cleared now!"
"See, they're both here now and the doctors are going to get them breathing again," Zayn told me. I nodded and waited for a doctor to take me to a room. I heard a knock.
"Hi boys!" The doctor said. I was starting to feel woozy from the anesthesia so I just waved tiredly. "So, the doctors are working on your babies and I am going to take you to a room."
Zayn helped the doctor bring me to a room and put me in a normal bed. I rode up my shirt and saw a bandage over my torso where the doctors cut. I looked up to see a tired looking Zayn. I pat the spot on the bed next to me. He happily laid next to make and I fell asleep in his arms.
We were awoken by a knock at the door. "Come in!" I said. In walked in a young nurse.
"Hi boys! So we have some good and bad news. What would you like to hear first?"
I looked to Zayn. "Good."
"Well, we have both of your babies breathing and doing great. Little girl is 6 pounds 14 ounces and the boy is 6 pounds and 3 ounces." I let out a sigh of relief and so did Zayn. "The bad news is that, because of their condition, they have to stay longer than normal. You may leave though."
She unhooked my IV and left. Zayn helped me get in normal clothes and we left.
2 weeks later, we brought home our two little ones. Kaitlyn and Brandon.
