The Run and Chase
Slamming the door shut as hard as possible, Lillian quickly bolted the oak door, and slid all four locks into place. Her eyes moved to her shivering friend on the green bed and for extra measures she pushed her dresser so it sat peacefully in front of the only exit of the room. She knew it wouldn't hold the alpha for too long, but it would give her time to call for help and shove Klaire out the window. When she was happy enough with her work, Lillian rushed over and wrapped her arms around her friend.
"Everything is going to be okay."
"How!?" Klaire screeched, "Your brother is my mate! Do you not realize that he kills my kind for a living! What am I going to do when he slips and goes back to seeing me as just a human and not his mate? "
"That won't happen. I'm telling you the bond of mates is to strong."
"But he we technically aren't mates yet, doesn't he have to mark and mate with me?" At the thought of being under neither the large alpha Klaire whimpered in pain. She had no trust in the man.
"The mating bond makes him want to protect you, makes him want to mark you. Trust me it will eat him alive when other men start touching and looking at you. His wolf is going to want to mark you to show the other men you belong to him. Once he marks you it will be a count down, all he will think about it wanting to finish the mating process. Once it happens the feeling of wanting you will just return. Eventually just looking at you will make him want you. He will be on his knees begging to touch you."
"That's if he doesn't kill me first. "
"What kind of friend would I be if I let him hurt you?" Klaire gave her friend about soft smile and finally stood up, her knees threatening to give in.
"I love you Lill..." Her words were weak as she began pulling clothes from the dressor sitting against the door. Once satisfied with the pile, she moved to her closest and pulled out the clothes that would be most suited for traveling through the woods.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm leaving. You said he can't kill me while i'm his mate, so I will run."
"Are you crazy!?"
"I know these woods like the back of my hand Lillian. As long as I can get a good start, he won't be able to find me." Lillian jumped from her bed and marched into the large sized closet. All of Klaire's training and hiking clothes were folded neatly on the sitting chair. She grabbed them suddenly and threw them out into the room. Klaire turned around sharply, "What the hell!?"
"I am not letting you leave, you don't understand what that will lead to!"
"My safety!"
"He will hunt you down Klaire! You're his mate, you're the other side of him, he isnt going to let you go that easily! Knowing that you ran away from him is going to drive him crazy and he won't stop until you are back where he thinks you belong."
"I am not going to be held here like a prisnor by a murderer!"
"Please..." Lillian grasped Klaire's wrist with tears in her eyes, "I don't want you to get hurt."
"Lillian, staying here will get me hurt. I've heard stories of that Alpha, he terrifies me, how can I be with someone who is a monster?"
"You have me..."
"I'm sorry." Klaire ripped her wrist from her friend's hand and marched from the room with her large backpack in hand. Lilli was out shortly, tears dripping down her face as she watched Klarissa throw the rest of her clothes into the back.
"Please..."
"Lillian, just let me leave!"
"No you can't! You can't leave me!" Lillian grabbed onto the bad and ripped it from her friends hand.
"Lillian!"
"Are you really going to leave me!? First my mother, then my father, and now you!?" Her words struck Klarissa's heart like lightning. Her own tears rose to the surface at the thought of hurting the girl she loved more then herself.
"Don't....don't say stuff like that..."
"But it's true! You told me you would never leave me-" Her words were cut off by multiple knocks on the door. Both girls froze, turning painfully towards the sound. The knocking continued, and soon the door began rattling.
"Open this door!" Klaire's heart paused the moment the rough voice hit her.
"Go away!" Her lips moved on their own as she stepped back.
"Open this door!" His voice shook the room, the alpha tone making Lillian whimper as if she was disobeying orders. Klaire could see the pain in her friends eyes.
"No!" Her lips moved again. She was surprised at the strength she was holding onto.
"What!?"
"I said no! Now go away!"
"Klaire..." Her friend turned to her with frightened eyes. They both stood there in silence knowing what was about to happen. Mouthing 'goodbye', Klaire grabbed her bag from the clutches of her friend and headed to the window above her bed. With ease, she slid it open and jumped thru. Right as she jumped from the roof, she heard a large crash from behind.
Her body hit the ground with a thud, pain shooting through her ankle. Bitting her lip, she pulled her bag over her shoulder and began limping into the woods.
***
The sun had set by the time Klaire finally gave into the pain devouring her leg. She dropped her bag onto the muddy ground and fell, bitting onto the inside of her cheek as she untied the steel-toed boot constricted around her left ankle. She cried out in pain as she gave her boot one last pull. Great! she internally moaned. There was no way she was going to be moving any time soon. Opening a side pocket in her bag, Klarissa pulled out a small black block and a white lighter. She sat the block on the ground, gathered a smile pile of sticks on the ground around her, and started a small fire to light the darkness around her.
A tiny beep went off, causing Klaire to freeze. She looked around her in fear only to hear it again. After a moment she laughed at her self, and reached behind her to pull out the small white iphone sitting in her back pocket. A text message from Lillian was showing on the screen. She was worried about her. Klaire eyed the phone to discover there was one bar. She smiled and opened the lock screen, sending a reply right away. Just as she sent the message, a twig behind her snapped and she sucked in a breath. Cautiously, she turned her head and let out a scream at the sight of two bright gold eyes staring into her own. The eyes stalked closer, revealing a large, solid black wolf. It let out a low growl and licked its lips with a snarl.
"I'm not going back!" She shouted knowing exactly who was in front of her. The wolf barked and stalked closer until it was breathing on her face. Klaire closed her eyes, not wanting to see what was about to happen, and shrieked when two large hands dug into her waist and threw her onto a bare sculpted shoulder. Looking down all Klaire could see was naked skin. Her cheeks grew hot and she began thrashing around. "Let go! Put me down this instant!" The alpha paused, and slung her onto the ground. She looked up into his green eyes and glared. With a growl, he crouched down and gripped her cheeks rougly, the same way he did at the party.
"You dare run from me!" His eyes flashed gold, his words lashing out, "I should have you skinned alive for your crime."
"My crime!? Something tells me you will rot in hell before I do." She spat.
"I'm taking you back, and you will stay there. I don't want to see you near those doors!"
"Like hell I'm listening to you! Lillian is my alpha, she is the only one I am going to listen to!" Pain erupted in the side of Klaire's face as Damien's large hand connected to her cheek. She looked up through red circles and began backing away from the danger in front of her. Damien ignored the pain he felt at her own and threw her back over his shoulder.
"No!" She screamed out in fear making him flinch.
"Be quiet. I would much rather make this walk back home a peaceful one." Klaire quieted down for only a few seconds before thrashing around and starting her rant all over again.
"Put me down you monster! I am leaving! I am not going to live under the same roof as a beast like you! You call me the filth but have you looked in the damn mirror lately! If anyone should die it should be you! Someone should lock you up in a prison and give you the death sentence! Better yet they should lock you in a room and let you starve."
"Your annoying, but I'm not letting you go. Whether we like it or not, you are my mate and-"
"F#ck you! I don't want to be your mate! I would much rather be alone all my life then be in the same room as you. In fact," Klaire chose her words carefully as her mind flashed through the memorys of the lessons she had attended with Lillian, "I reject you-" Her words flew from her mouth as Damien threw her off his shoulder and shoved her into the ground. She opened her mouth to speak but froze at the look on his face.
"Listen here," he spit through gritted teeth, "This bond is the only thing that is keeping your a$$ alive. Trust me all I want to do is snap your pretty little neck and end your life, but of course I can't. And while I may hate your kind I still have respect for my mood goddess. If she choose you as my mate then there is a reason behind it. I am not about to be ungrateful for what she has given me. A home is one thing, a mate is a whole different level. Not to many wolves get mates, and if they do lots of times stuff will go wrong and they will loose eachother. Look at my parents. I'm keeping you close cause of what the bond does for me. But I want you to know. If you finish your sentence, the moment the words leave your mouth I will kill you. Do you understand."
"A$$!" Klaire pushed her self off the ground and began limping back towards her home. She tuned her ears to the sounds behind her and could hear Damien following. The sound of fours soft pads hitting the ground rung in her ears, and before she could turn around she felt him push his fur against her side. With a sigh she stopped and turned. His wolf stood at the same height as her. His eyes bore in her and she could see what he wanted through his eyes. "I'm only doing this because I'm hurt. But after today I refuse to talk to you!" He snorted but she ignored it and slid onto his back. The pressure releasing on her foot was like sitting after a long day of workl. She smiled and slowly rode her way back to Liliian.
A/N: So not as long as the other ones, but eh I couldn't really think of anything else for this chapter. As you can see Damien does have respect for his kind. He's not about to fully disrespect his Goddess, but we will have to see if these two do fall in love, or will they just stay together because of the mate bond? The world may never know :P
Next chapter....I will reveal who stars as Damien...any guesses?
