Catch It Before It Flys By
Klaire stepped from the bathroom and crawled back into bed, slithering back to her spot next to Damien. She stared at the guy and smiled softly. He really would be the perfect mate if he didn't have such a grumpy attitude. Very slowly she raked over his features, his lips were pink and plump, she could feel her inner girl screaming to lean in and see what it was like to have them against her own. Get over it! She shouted to her subconscious knowing it would never happen.
With a sigh, she wiggled till she was on she back and stared at the ceiling, her thoughts floating around freely in her head. Her head brought up beautiful ice blue eyes that had been haunting her dreams the past few days. She remembered two sets. One belonging to a wolf as white as snow, and the other to a younger boy with a smile that seemed to outshine the sun. Both of them were glued to her brain. She wanted to know who they were, and why they chose to torture her with their oddly terrifying scenes. Klaire knew the dreams she had really weren't that scary, but for some reason the images always drenched her heart with fear.
"Your discomfort is bugging the crap out of me. What ever your thinking about, please stop." Damien mumbled causing Klaire to jump with a small scream. She looked over and found him eyeing her with curiosity.
"S...sorry?"
"How long have you been up?"
"Maybe twenty minutes. I...I didn't want to wake you up."
"You should have." He raised his hand and placed it against her forehead. She sucked in a breath and felt her face turn red. With a smirk, Damien got up from bed and headed into his closet, "Seems like your fever is finally gone. Of course sleeping for a week straight will do that to you."
"Yeah...WAIT WHAT!?" Klaire shouted in shock. "I've been out for a week?"
"That's what I just said."
"Why the f#ck did you let me sleep that long?" Darting from the bed, Klaire snatched up the silver robe next to the nightstand and marched into the bathroom. She turned the water onto hot and jumped it with her clothes still on. Realizing her mistake a little to late, Klaire peeled the shorts and large t-shirt off her body and then went through her normal shower routine.
The moment she was done she slid the silky soft robe over her bare body and walked back into the room towards the exit.
"Where are you going?" Damien asked as he eyed the wet skin showing through the top of her robe.
"To get clothes."
"No need to leave the room then, I took the liberty of moving you in here while you were out cold. Your clothes are on the left side of the closet."
"What!?"
"I told you that you were moving out of Lillian's room. Your my mate not hers."
"You...you need to move everything back." Damien's eyes widened at the panicked expression suddenly swarming her frail frame.
"Klaire..."
"You...you don't understand. I can't, I need to be with her, I'll...please take me back! I can't stay here Damien."
"Why? Do you still think I'm going to kill you?"
"No it's not-"
"Look, if I wanted to kill you I would have done it already. I'm only doing this because your my mate. All mates share a room together, I'm just doing the normal thing Klarissa."
"Please..."
"Give me a good reason."
"I...I can't tell you." His green eyes flashed gold and before Klaire could say another word he marched out of the room, slamming the door shut behind him. Sighing, Klaire moved into the large closet, changed into sweats and a tank top, and searched through the house for a mess of bright red hair.
Her target had his arms wrapped around a tiny girl who was consumed by a fit of giggles. Crouching down low, Klaire army crawled her way across the living room till she was behind the couch, hidden by the shadows. With a grin, she jumped up and lunged for the guys head. Her hands just made contact when he shoved his mate to the opposite side of the couch and grabbed onto Klaire's shoulders, sending her crashing into the carpet in front of them. She looked up to see a smirking red head with a gleam in his eyes.
"Every time you try to sneak up on me you give yourself away."
"I was quiet this time...what did I do wrong Felix?" She pouted as she fixed her self so she was sitting up right.
"That is true, and alright I will tell you. It's simple, I could see your reflection in the tv.
"Damn." Klaire said as she crawled into the recliner, "So how was your trip?"
"Not to shabby, I came back with the best gift in the world." He said as his gaze slid to the girl against his side. Klaire could see the love radiating through his eyes and felt a smidge of pain in her heart knowing her mate would never look at her like that. "But let us put that subject aside for another time."
"What do you mean?"
"Damien Edrens aye?" Klaire rolled her eyes.
"Worst luck ever right? I can't believe Lillian told you without my permission."
"She didn't tell me."
"Then how did you know?" She asked with an arched eyebrow.
"He's back and your still alive, not to mention that mark is practically screaming 'property of Damien Edrens'."
"What...mark?" Suddenly her mind lunged backwards blasting images of the last time she was awake into her head. She could feel the pain as her attacker bit into her only to be ripped off by a stranger. Klaire had thought he looked familiar, but she had been so terrified that she never believed that it was Damien who had saved her. "Oh my god!" She shouted as she remembered him sinking his canines into her neck. "That bastard marked me!"
"You...you didn't know?" He asked.
"No! I'll be right back." Before he could say anything she was in the kitchen, throwing the plate of food in front to Damien against the wall. He looked up at her with a growl but was unable to speak as pain exploded in his cheek from the force of Klaire's punch. "You marked me you bastard!"
"Klarissa..."
"Did I tell you that you could mark me? No I didnt! You can't just take away my freedom like I'm a prisoner of yours. I'm a damn living, breathing human being. And while you may hate me, I'm not going to sit by with the disrespect you have been showing me! Do you self a favor and f#ck off, because I'm not doing jack sh¡t for you ever! Oh, and I am moving back in with Lillian!" With that she turned around and marched up to her room to find her best friend still asleep. She shook her ferociously and stepped back at the last second as Lillian swung her fists out in confusion. When she spotted Klaire, her eyes instantly blurred and she lunged for the girl, forcing them both to the ground.
"I'm so glad your okay! I promise I never let anything happen to you again! I'm such a horrible friend for letting that man take you."
"Your brother marked me..." She whispered.
"I know, I yelled at him for it, but he blew me off."
"Can we leave?"
"What do you want to do? Go to the park, or the movies, or do you want to get some lunch, maybe some ice cream-"
"I want to start our own life Lillian. I mean let's leave the pack." Lillian pulled away and stared at her friend. She was completely serious about the whole thing.
"The mark..."
"I will ignore it."
"It's not that easy."
"It is when you want to do nothing more then kill the guy who put it on you."
"Klaire...do you really think Damien will let you leave."
"He's not my father! He can't tell me what to do!"
"But he's your-"
"If you say that word I will seriously damage something."
"Klaire...what about everyone else. You know Victoria and the girls don't want you gone, and Felix just got back. He started looking for you the moment he walked in. You have family here..."
"But...your brother is driving me crazy."
"I know, really but-" Lillian cut off her words as her skin turned ghostly white. Looking behind her, Klaire found a large madded brown wolf staring at them from the opened door frame. It licked the foam from its lips and inched closer. Lillian growled lowly in warning and grabbed her friend to make sure she was safe. Klaire watched as the wolf in front of them dropped it's tail between its legs and stopped in the dead center of the room. Swinging it's head around, it sniffed the air and then howled louder then any wolf either girl had ever heard. Suddenly Lillian shoved Klaire hard, sending her flying across the room and shifted right as the rabid wolf sunk his teeth into her side.
Her wolf whimpered in pain but was quick to snap back. The rabid dodged with a growl and bit down harder. Struggling to her feet, Klaire grabbed the bat from their sports hamper and threw it at the wolf. Unaffected the wolf began dragging Lillian towards the window.
A dark red wolf then exploded into the room at lightening speed and tore the attacker right off of Lillian, ending it's life in one motion. Klaire sent up a prayer of thanks and crawled towards her friend, only to be stopped as two wolves crashed in through the windows, tackling Felix to the ground. The smaller of the two darted away and shot into the house.
Klaire covered her ears in fear as a quiet scream echoed through the house and howls broke free from both outside and inside. Crawling towards her friend, Klaire grabbed onto her front legs and dragged her into the bath room. With wobbly knees, she bolted the door and then slid to the floor with Lillian breathing heavily on her lap. Blood dripped onto the marble tile from Lillian's nuzzle causing a sob to break free from Klaire's lips. Pulling Lillian's large head up to her own, she cried out in pain.
Suddenly the door broke off its hinges and smashed against the wall above their heads. Klaire screamed at the sight of a tall and sickly man. He smiled, showing a mouth full of sharpened teeth and moved in like he was closing in on his prey. Placing Lillian's head softly on the ground, Klaire stood up and stepped over her alpha so she was in between the two wolves.
"Back off...I...I won't let you have her!" She spread her arms wide hoping someone would come in and save them. The man stared at her for a second and the bursted out laughing. As quick as lightening, he lunged for Klaire and tackled her to the ground, grabbing a handful of hair before smashing her head into the tile. Klaire's world began to spin as stars danced above her head.
With a smile, the rabid picked up Lillian's body like it was a feather and walked out of the bathroom. Klaire's heart dropped and she panicked. Drawing on strength she didn't realize she had, Klaire pushed her self off the ground, ran out into the bedroom, and attached herself to the back of the attacker before he could clear away the glass on the window. The guy immediately began trying to get her off, but she chomped down on his shoulder and hung on for dear life. She watched as Lillian slowly slipped from his embrace, but before her body could even hit the carpet, two large hands gripped into her shirt and flung her across the room. She looked up coming face to face with dark brown eyes. The man smiled before whistling to his partner. With a nodd, the rabid grabbed onto Lillian and jumped from the window.
"I...I'm going t...to k...kill you!" Klaire lashed out. The man looked and her and laughed before falling in pursuit of the buddy.
"Klairey!" Martha's face over took Klaire's view as she crouched down to examine her. She looked her over quickly and barked out orders to the other fighters that were near by. Klaire forced herself up and began limping towards the window, her mind set on chasing after the men who took her best friend. She was half way through when an arm wrapped around her waist pulling her against a firm body. She struggled for only a second before her tears became to strong to hold back. Sobbing, Klaire dug her head into Damiens chest. She tried to calm herself down, but all she could see was Lillian being taken, the image played in her head over and over again, slowly tearing to heart to pieces.
"Klarissa." He whispered to her hoping to help sooth the pain. She never responded, all she could do was cry.
