Betrayal, Guilt, and Jealousy
The moment the trees dissappeared, and they hit the inner property, Klaire slid off of the large wolf and limped her way to the two front doors. They opened quickly to her presence, revealing a guilty friend on the other side. She looked up but dropped her gaze at the look on her face. Klaire paused for a second, words ready to come out, but decided against it and moved past her, heading up the stairs. She was at the door when a small hand stopped her.
"She was worried about you Klaire. You're the only family she has left."
"Of all the people Lillian sent, she sent him. Why couldn't she have sent Mark? She knows how I feel about her brother, so why Victoria...why did she send Damien?"
"I know you don't know like him, but he's your mate dear, he is the one who is responsible for your safety, and as much as none of us like it, he is our alpha. All of us felt it the moment he sensed you as his mate. And we are accepting it because it's keeping you safe. It's our duty to let him know if something goes wrong, like if our precious Luna runs away. None of us want to see you get hurt-"
"He is not our alpha!" Klaire shouted ignoring everything the she-wolf said besides the alpha ordeal, "Lillian is! She knows more about this pack and those within it then he ever will!"
"Klarissa..."
"I'm going to bed Vicki. I really do not want to talk about this anymore, I will see you in the morning."
"Goodnight." She gave her a soft small and watched as Klaire slammed the door shut behind her. With a sigh she turned around coming face to face with her old beta.
"How is she?" He asked as his eyes lingered on the door.
"She's okay, I just wish there was more I could do. That poor girl has the worst luck, being paired with him and all..."
"You got that right, I can think of a much better choice then him." Victoria knew what he meant, the love in his eyes was as clear as a mid-summer day.
"Maybe you can talk to her, talk some sense into her you know. Give her advice on how to make it easier for herself."
"Why would I convince her to be with that mutt?"
"Because you know what happens to mates who do not chose the direction of their bond."
"That's probably a better thing for her sake. "
"Marcus!" Victoria's face flooded with shock.
"It's true and you know it."
"No it's-"
"You guys realize that Klarissa can hear your conversation right?" Tristian asked as he ascended that staircase with Martha in tow. Both of the wolves opened their mouths but said nothing.
"Just give her time. Our goddess would never punish someone in the way you are thinking. She had a good reason for pairing those two up, and besides...We all know that our alpha is Lillian, and she needs Klarissa by her side. I know you don't like it Mark, but we have to put up with Damien. Do you really want to take the chance of him leaving and dragging her along? Just keep your opinions to yourself for now."
"But Martha-"
"No," the small she-wolf shook her head, "Now go run off and do something useful with your time. Let Klaire sleep and once she wakes Lilli can talk to her."
"What good will that do?" Mark snapped, "She is the one who told that demon about Klaire in the first place."
"Because as much as you all think Damien will kill her, your wrong. That man is going to do everything in his power to protect her. It's quite clear to us all what kind of alpha he has turned into, and Klaire is the only way of him gaining more power. He'll protect her life as if his life depended on it."
"We'll see..." Mark growled before stalking off towards his own room. Victoria smiled at Martha and walked off towards Rayce who had just returned home from his medical errands. When the house grew silent Martha opened Klaire's door and slid into the room with ease. The blonde human was passed out with her blanket wrapped around her body like a cocoon. Martha giggled slightly and walked up reaching for the phone on the night stand. She clicked the center button, turned off the music, and pulled the head phones from Klaire's ears. After placing the white iPhone on its charger, Martha clicked off the green lamp next to the bed and exited the room as quietly as possible. Tristian smiled and pulled his mate into a passionate kiss. The she-wolf returned the smile and walked back to her room with her husband by her side.
***
Pain shot through Klaire's arm causing her eyes to fly open. Quick to assess the scene, Klaire's blue eyes landed on the attacker and she relaxed. Her precious alpha was passed out on the side of her bed, with a single hand wrapped around the her lower arm, long pink nails digging into her skin as Lillian whimpered in her sleep. Such a child! Klaire thought as she pulled away from her friends grasp and moved out of the large room. She shut the door behind her lightly, not wanting to wake the dreamer, and made her way to the kitchen for a late night snack.
The moment her feet hit the cold tiled floor, she froze, her gaze locking onto the two men sitting with their backs towards her. Sucking in a small breath, Klaire began backing up hoping to have a clean get away. Her efforts were blocked by a sturdy body that had snuck up from behind.
"Why don't you join us Luna?" The baritone voice asked. Fear clamped around her throat and Klaire froze in her place.
"Don't scare the poor girl Roderick. Come here Klaire." The second voice was slightly familiar, but held a darker tone then the one she knew like her own. Stories began flicking through her mind and Klaire was able to match a name with the voice. Without moving, she spoke.
"Have you talked to him yet?"
"Who?" The guy asked.
"Your son? The one you left behind when you decided to follow the monster." The guy chuckled before turning around. His hazel eyes were bright just like his sons, just by looking at the man, Klaire could see they looked alike. There was no mistaking the man in front of her.
"I gave him a chance to follow."
"He was a little boy then Jeremiah, and one who had just lost his mother."
"Oh you know my name...I'm assuming that boy of mine told you...along with a made up story of how my old mate passed away?"
"No, my old alpha did. Told me how you betrayed him after you let the supposed love of your life die." Klaire watched as Jeremiah's fist suddenly clenched around them cup in front of him.
"Anthony was a fool. This pack was no good since the beginning, and I tried to-"
"Your wrong! He was the best alpha out there, well respected and loved, two things his son will never be."
"Do you realize how sick it is to hear you complain out Damien when he is your own mate..." The man behind her growled.
"Sorry but I have no respect for a man who goes around murdering innocent people, and if you don't like it, then just leave! None of us want you here anyways!" She challenged.
"Luna please-"
"Klaire?" Everyone in the room turned towards the side enterance. Mark was standing at the hall way opening with the towel wrapped tightly around his waist. His dark brown hair damp against his forehead brining the color out in his eyes. He watched Klaire for only a minute before his gaze landed on the man sitting at the table next to the kitchen counter. Anger and disgust swamped his face, but disappeared the moment he brought his focus back to the girl close to him. "Everything okay?"
"Yes, in fact I was just leaving."
"I can walk you back to your room."
"Thanks." She smiled and began moving forward before being pulled back.
"I will not tolerate disrespect towards my alpha. I may not be able to touch you, but know that the rest of the pack is free game. Choose your words carefully for now on." Roderick hissed into her ear before allowing her to leave. Klaire marched from the kitchen without a word and latched onto Mark's arm. They walked together, but stopped early at the beta's door.
"Would you like to come in?"
"And do what exactly?"
"Just chill. I'm sure you need an ear to tear into, and both of mine are ready to be destroyed." She laughed at his words before pulling away.
"I'm good for now. I'll just talk to the brat in the morning. I know she did what she did because she cared."
"Are you sure about that?"
"What do you mean?"
Mark sighed and spoke softly knowing his words might upset her, "I think she's already falling 'in line'. You and I both know she really isn't alpha material. Lillian might have willingly-"
"Are you serious!"
"Why else would she tell him Klairey?"
"Because I'm her-"
"Because Klarissa is MY mate." A deep, intoxicating voice growled from behind, "You know...I feel like you are beginning to step over some major boundaries." Damien was practically hovering over Klaire as he snarled at the smaller wolf, "I expect you to learn your place and stay away from what belongs to me. And if I ever hear you talk about how her death would be the better option again, I will ring your neck and feed you to the coyotes." Klaire's eyes widened at the sudden guilt crossing Mark's face. She opened her mouth to get an explanation, but chose against it and turned around instead. She was close to the stares when she hear Mark open his mouth.
"She doesn't even want you be your mate! To her you're nothing but a monster. Lillian may fall to her knees but I never will! The only thing I will do is take what you don't deserve-" Damien lost control of his anger and lunged for the beta. Klaire screamed as the two crashed onto the floor, Damiens fist flying into Mark's face repeatedly. Without thinking, Klaire jumped onto her mates back, words spilling from her mouth in hopes of saving her friend.
"Stop! Please stop! He didn't mean it! Please Damien! I'll listen to what ever you say, I promise! I won't run, I won't reject you, nothing just please stop!" Damien relaxed as he in took in her scent, and reluctantly pulled away from his victim. Klaire lunged for Mark's unmoving form but was pulled back before she could even get close. She turned around to object but stayed silent the warning in Damiens eyes was perfectly clear.
"I'm going back to my room." She whispered.
"I'll take you." He snapped. Klaire nodded in agreement and followed after the alpha without giving Mark a second look.
Both of them were silent as the moved across the large home. Klaire had nothing to say and Damian was too consumed by his own anger to speak.
Damien knew that beta was walking down the wrong path. Klaire was his mate, and as much as he hated it, just the thought of another man touching her was driving him crazy. He hated the way he felt, the way his anger would flare when any of the men looked at her. Damien could see it clearly, all the males in the house cared for her deeply, and he hated it. She looked at them all the same way, and it pissed his wolf off to no end.
He had tried desperately, many times to push his wolf down, but the creature was to strong. It wanted to be the only thing to be wanted my her, to be looked at like he was the only one who mattered, not a little mutt that thought he was aloud to put his hands on things that didn't belong to him.
"Goodnight." Damien stopped dead in his tracks and pulled himself back to the present and found a door in front of them. He nodded his head in acknowledgement and watched her slide back into the room that was filled with an old, familiar, female alpha's scent. He growled slightly and walked off. Her living arrangements were in need of a change. I swear, he thought towards his goddess, Your twisted thought process is going to drive me insane. With a final sigh he slipped into his master bedroom, slamming the door shut behind him.
A/N: Yes it's here, I asked around home for who should play as Damien and the results were concluded. On the top or side is Mr. Jensen Ackles who will be playing as our brute alpha :) Sorry I've been offline for so long, my job kept my away from the precious service that allows me to update :)
