Chapter 25: Puppet Master Pt. 1

A/n: This will explain everything leading up to the betrayal. Thanks for waiting, and I hope you all enjoy this chapter.

(Third Person POV):

Sitting in a living room of a suburban house sat a boy in front of a TV. He had messy brown hair, light skin, and bright brown eyes. A large smile spread across his face when something appeared on the screen.

Boy:"YES! The good guys win again!" He cheered with joy and held a toy soldier in the air. Suddenly, a door to the back of the house opened, and someone spoke.

???:"Alistair! Come help me with the groceries!" A male voice called out. The set down his toys and stood up.

Alistair:"Yes, grandpa!" He acknowledged and ran over to help his elder.

Grandpa:"Thanks son, are you watching those old war films again?" He questioned, as he looked up at the TV. Alistair nodded.

Alistair:"Uh huh. It's my favorite!" He chanted innocently. The grandfather cracked a small smile and ruffled the boy's hair.

Grandpa:"Maybe you can grow up and become heroes like those guys someday." He encouraged, which made Alistair beam with joy.

Alistair:"You mean it?" He asked with hope. The grandfather glanced over at a shelf with his old war medals and photos of him fighting in prior conflicts.

Grandpa:"Of course. Just remember to fight for what is right." He reminded the young boy. Alistair suddenly stood straight and saluted.

Alistair:"Yes sir!" He attempted his deepest voice, which earned a chuckle from the elder man.

Grandpa:"First we need to fix that salute of yours, otherwise you'll never make it through boot camp." He said, as he walked past the puzzled boy.

Alistair:"Why do I need to go to a camp for boots?"

Timeskip....

It was a rainy day. The grass across the plot of land was soaked wet. Splashes could be heard from a pair of footsteps trekking across the land. It belonged to a single male dressed up in a full military uniform. He did not have an umbrella, but in his hand was an old military medal.

Alistair:"So I ship out tomorrow gramps." He murmured under the loud rain. The soldier stared down at the single tombstone before him. It displayed the name of his grandfather and a few final phrases. The soldier leaned down and set his grandfather's prized medal on top of his final resting place.

Alistair:"I made it. I made it into the SEALs. Like the heroes on the movie we would always watch." He conversed, half expecting a reply from his loved one. Just anything.

Alistair:"I'll come back for this, I promise." He whispered, as a single tear mixed in with the rain.  Alistair then began walking away, but stopped to stare at the sky.

Alistair:'Love you grandpa, I'll miss you." He silently thought before heading off.

Timeskip...

Gunfire and explosions filled the air. Cries of children missing their mothers and screams of those who were burning alive added to the mix. Among all the mayhem was the cause of the chaos. It was the local insurgents threatening to take over a country by military force against a single team of American special forces. The reason these two different groups were here: Oil.

Alistair:"Why did you call an airstrike on a heavy civilian occupied location?!" He screamed at his team leader. The other SEAL shoved him away.

Team Leader:"I had no choice! We were going to get overrun! It's our boys or them!" He attempted to justify, but Alistair wasn't having any of it. He decked the male across the face, effectively knocking him to the ground.

(F/n):"Alistair, get a grip!" His team member shouted and restrained the male. Alistair didn't reply and just stared at the team leader in disgust.

Alistair:"We should be helping people. Not killing them." He mumbled in a deathly tone. The team leader got back up and wiped off his bloody nose.

Team Leader:"You're lucky the evac zone is clear. Otherwise, I would have shot you on the spot for trying to get us killed." He spat.

(F/n):"Lay off Foley! Let's just focus on getting out of here." He snapped, as the rescue helicopter landed. Everyone climbed on board, Alistair specifically keeping away from Foley. As the vehicle took off, Alistair looked down at the carnage that had taken place.

Alistair:"Why? Why was this given the all clear?" He stared in horror, disbelief, and rage.

Timeskip...

(F/n):"Come on Alistair, just take the deal." He attempted to persuade his former squad member. Alistair slammed his fist on the table beside him and looked at (F/n) in anger.

Alistair:"So what? So I could go in and slaughter innocent civilians again? So Foley can get a medal of honor for racking up the collateral damage?" He snapped. (F/n) sighed in defeat before placing his hand on Alistair's shoulder.

(F/n):"Look. I'm not forcing you, but I would feel better if you were fighting by my side while Foley is pointing fingers up in command than not at all." He laid out his final effort to convince Alistair. The brown haired soldier took a moment to think before nodding in agreement.

Alistair:"Fine." He agreed, and (F/n) smiled with joy.

(F/n):"So you'll do it?" He asked with hope. Alistair nodded.

Alistair:"Just so I can minimize the death toll from Foley's idiocy." He reasoned, but (F/n) could care less.

(F/n):"Of course! Heaven and Hell are going to Global Task Force 1!" He cheered and shook Alistair around playfully.

Alistair:"Stop it with our codenames." He cracked a smile at his partner's antics. (F/n) shrugged.

(F/n):"Hey, my codename is going to get me laid tonight." He said confidently, but Alistair shot him a skeptical look.

Alistair:"If you mean (M/n), then you better hope she doesn't neuter you." He warned, but (F/n) was already off on his escapades. Alistair shook his head before looking up at the night sky in thought.

Alistair:'Guess I'll be a little late, gramps.' He thought to himself.

Timeskip....

Alistair:"This wasn't a part of the agreement." He growled in an upset tone, as a doctor set down a tray beside him. Next to the doctor was Foley with his arms crossed.

Foley:"Well it is now. Unless you have your doubts about joining the team." He replied in an unwavering tone. Alistair glanced over at (F/n), who gave him a clueless look. He didn't know about this either.

Alistair:"No. I'll do it." He reluctantly agreed. Foley nodded to the doctor, and the doctor injected the syringe filled with blue liquid into Alistair. Suddenly, he began to spasm uncontrollably.

Alistair:"Get him secured!" He shouted to the other medical personnel. They all rushed over to Alistair, who was screaming, shaking, and in unimaginable pain. The nurses and doctors tried to hold down the flailing soldier, but failed.

Alistair:"What....what did you do to me??!?!" He screamed in agony while craning his head towards Foley. Foley gave him a stoic look.

Foley:"I'm giving you powers unimaginable to any man." He answered calmly before Alistair screamed in more pain. Suddenly, he stopped spasming and stood back up. He was unnervingly calm, and everyone awaited any response.

(F/n):"Alistair?" He called out cautiously. Alistair then turned around to look at his partner. Gone were his soft brown eyes, now they were blood red.

Timeskip...

(F/n):"Stop it, Alistair! They're dead!" He yelled, while trying to restrain his partner. Alistair cried out in agony and tried to struggle out of (F/n)'s grasp. However, they were even in strength.

Alistair:"NO! I can save them! I can!" He protested, but it was squabble from a broken man. Lying in the burning fortress were a dozen men and women from GTF1. If they had went back in, they would either be gunned down or burned alive.

(F/n):"NO!" He screamed, as Alistair managed to break free. The brown haired male began to sprint towards the building, but was tackled away by a woman with (h/c) hair.

(M/n):"Get a grip Alistair! Foley's going to have reinforcements coming in minutes! No way he's going to let us get out of here alive. Either come with us, or die here!" She barked angrily. However, there were tears streaming down her face. She too was trying her best to not completely break down in the dire situation. Alistair stood back up and said one final goodbye to his fallen comrades before looking back at (F/n) and (M/n).

Alistair:"Fine. Let's go." He uttered in a dark tone. (F/n) looked unnerved by his comrade's new presence and appearance. The flaming wreckage behind Alistair, and his new scar running through his right eye, only emphasized something dark forming inside Alistair.

Timeskip...

(F/n):"So...we were all just an experiment?" He questioned in disbelief. The look on Alistair's face confirmed it all. Not only that, all of the evidence to prove that was right on the computer screen.

(F/n):"Can't we just release these files and expose them?" He questioned. (M/n) shook her head.

(M/n):"And what? Who would believe that almost every global super power put together a team of their best, pumped them full of steroids out of a comic book, then had them pitted against a common enemy? Only crazies and conspiracy theorists will!" She snapped. (F/n) then looked down in defeat.

(F/n):"So we're just going to become ghosts now?" He asked in a hopeless tone. (M/n) sighed tiredly and pinched the bridge of her nose.

(M/n):"I don't know..." She muttered. (F/n) turned to Alistair.

(F/n):"Alistair?" He hoped his long time comrade had answers.

Alistair:"I need to see them." He replied, which confused the other male.

(F/n):"What?" Alistair turned to look at (F/n).

Alistair:"I need to see my family." He clarified. (M/n) looked up with a shocked look.

(M/n):"Are you insane?! Are you trying to get them killed?!" She shouted angrily.

Alistair:"I need to at least see one person!" He snapped with no intention of backing down. (M/n) opened her mouth to protest, but (F/n) stopped her. He fully understood the situation.

(F/n):"Fine, but make sure no one else sees you. Otherwise you'll be putting them in danger." He warned. Alistair nodded, and the two shook hands.

(F/n):"Until we meet again, brother." He bid farewell, and Alistair nodded before the three parted ways.

Alistair:'I'm coming home grandpa.'

Timeskip....

Alistair:"I've failed...." He sobbed over his grandfather's tombstone. The rain poured over the cemetery and the brown haired soldier. In his hand was the medal he left behind before being deployed. Suddenly, Alistair whipped his head towards the sound of footsteps.

Alistair:"Who's there?!" He cried out with a threatening tone. Suddenly, his eyes widened in realization to who it was.

Alistair:"M-Mom?!" He asked in a shaky tone. The older woman dropped her umbrella in shock.

Mom:"Son!" She cried out and immediately ran over to embrace her son. The two hugged each other and cried under the rain.

Mom:"I-I thought you were dead!" She sobbed into the male's shoulder. Alistair said nothing and just embraced his mother.

Alistair:"I'm alive mom. I'm alive..." He assured, but trailed off, as he noticed several trucks pulling up to the cemetery. The color drained from his face when he realized who they're here for.

Alistair:"Mom, you have to run now!" He screamed with urgency, but his mother refused to let go.

Mom:"NO! I WILL NOT LOSE MY SON AGAIN!" She protested. Before Alistair could do anything, the sound of gunfire mixed in with the thunderstorm. Bullets riddled the entire area. Alistair wrapped himself around his mother and dived into what little cover he had.

Alistair:"Dammit! Are you alright...." His mother lied motionless in his arms. There were two red circles rapidly spreading on Alistair's mother's chest. Alistair was no longer what he used to be after that night.

Timeskip....

Reporter:"A woman identified as, Ms. Garrison, was found dead this morning at our local veterans' cemetery. To what looks like a victim to the local mafia staging a gang shootout in the area. However, sources are saying that this event took place weeks ago." The person on the TV said before it was turned off. A male with white hair stood up and walked over to the bathroom sink.

The reflection showed a bandaged face and scarred body. His hair was messy, and some areas began to turn white already. He then began to remove the bandages to reveal red eyes and a sickly scar running through the right one. However, his face had been altered.

Suddenly, the man's laptop in the living room chimed. He walked over and turned on the screen. There was a single email, and he clicked on it. It was an acceptance to male's recruitment into the military. All he had to do was fill in an online form.

Alistair Garrison.

He typed that name initially before deleting it and readmitting a false identity. It was one of the dozens he created to enter organizations and governments around the globe. However, only one organization had his real name marked on it.

Alistair:'The White Masks have been born.'

Timeskip...

Alistair sat in a small room with a single lamp, two chairs, and a metal table. On the table was a brown folder and a loop where cuffs could be hooked into. Suddenly, the only door into the room opened.

A male with black hair and a scar running diagonally across his face was escorted in my two men in uniform. They bound him to the chair and metal table before leaving. He looked at Alistair with a curious face.

???:"Are you my lawyer?" He questioned. Alistair shook his head before opening the folder.

Alistair:"No, but I am your ticket out of here if you agree to my conditions." He replied, which interested the prisoner.

???:"Do tell." He urged for more details. Alistair slid the folder over to the male to reveal that it was a file on him.

Alistair:"Mark Syrius, I'm interested in your set of skills. How would you like to work for me?" He asked and laid out the photos that was the very reason Mark was put in prison. Mutilation. Torture. Violation of the Geneva Accords.

Syrius:"If it means that I can continue my work, then: Deal." He answered almost instantly.

Timeskip....

Syrius:"So I may have accidentally killed our informant." He notified Alistair. Alistair stood up from his desk.

Alistair:"Did you get the information?" He asked, as he slipped on a coat. Syrius nodded.

Syrius:"Yeah." He confirmed. Alistair gained a pleased look.

Alistair:"Good. Now if you would excuse me, I've got a meeting with old comrades." Alistair looked down at his phone with a picture of (F/n) and (M/n) with wedding rings. He said farewell and exited the office. Syrius sighed tiredly.

Syrius:"I don't want to babysit those twins!" He grumbled and exited the room as well. He opened the door across to reveal two teenagers with raven hair and blue eyes sparring against each other.

Timeskip...

(F/n):"It's been a while." He greeted grimly. Alistair nodded and the two shared a brotherly hug.

(F/n):"I heard what happened....I'm sorry." He apologized and let go. Alistair sighed and shook his head.

Alistair:"What happened is the past. I must move forward." He responded, which did not sit well with (F/n).

(F/n):"What are you saying?! That was your mother!" He cried out, but Alistair remained unfazed.

Alistair:"Enough about me, how is (M/n)?" He changed the subject. (F/n) let out a defeated sigh before smiling weakly.

(F/n):"Well, how about you take a look?" He offered. Alistair gave him a curious look before entering (F/n)'s home. Sitting on the bed was (M/n), she was smiling at something in her arms. She then looked up and motioned for the two men.

(M/n):"You two, come quickly!" She beckoned for the men to approach her. Alistair walked over to (M/n) to see an infant wrapped up in a blanket. It had (s/c) skin and (e/c) eyes. There was a large smile on his face, as (M/n) played with him.

(F/n):"Meet my son, (Y/n)." He introduced proudly. Alistair stared in shock.

Alistair:"You named him after my middle name?" He asked curiously. (M/n) nodded.

(M/n):"You are the godfather after all." She revealed, further shocking the red eyed male. Alistair's mind continued to process the influx of information he was receiving. However, being happy to be a godfather wasn't one of them.

Alistair:"I hate to leave, but if I stay too long, I'll put all three of you in danger." He gave them the half truth. (Y/n)'s parents nodded in understanding before watching Alistair take his leave. Instead of thoughts on protecting the new family, he sought a way to take advantage if it.

Alistair:'I'll see you soon, (Y/n). Cherish your few moments with your parents before they're gone.' He thought with a devious smirk.

Timeskip...

Alistair stood by a metal table loading bullets into empty magazines. Groups of men in the background were running around with weapons. They were loading hem into trucks, and it looked like they were preparing for a full scale war.

Suddenly, Syrius entered the hanger and began approaching Alistair. He was also currently wiping blood off of his hands and drill. This unnerved the other men, but Syrius looked perfectly content. He then began to speak to his boss.

Syrius:"So you were right. The serum was ineffective on the twins. One was just left torn up after what I did, while the other was broken." He reported to Alistair. The red eyed male loaded his gun before turning to Syrius.

Alistair:"That's unfortunate, I had high hopes for Kyle, but I believe he will play a large role later on. For now, let's focus on what we've been waiting for fifteen years." He changed the topic. Syrius nodded eagerly.

Syrius:"I can't wait to break that (Y/n) fella." He stated with excitement, but Alistair gave him a serious look.

Alistair:"Control yourself, we cannot mess this up. (Y/n) can only be extracted after he accomplishes his set tasks." He reminded. Syrius nodded.

Syrius:"I know. I know. I'm not going to let over a decades worth of set up go to waste. Do you know how hard it was to continue paying off those rebels to attack then (L/n)'s? They lost motivation after two months. Good thing I had this baby." He responded and whirred his power drill. Alistair walked past the sadistic male and approached the guardrail. There he overlooked his thousands of soldiers.

Alistair:"Today we will launch our ultimate operation. What we have been fighting for will shake the planet, and it starts with this battle. Most of you will not make it out alive, but know that your death with support the cause. Long live the White Masks!!!" He roared.

White Masks:"LONG LIVE THE WHITE MASKS!!!!" They all shouted and echoed throughout the hanger. Alistair nodded in approval before slipping on the infamous white mask that would terrorize the future.

Timeskip...

Everything was scarred black from explosives detonating and fires. Bullet casings and corpses littered the once flourishing jungle. However, now there was only a wasteland after what seems to be a war-zone.

Among the dead bodies was (F/n) limping somewhere. He had multiple gunshot wounds with blood continuing to flow out at a deadly rate. However, it wasn't stopping him from reaching his destination. Soon, he arrived before a half destroyed home.

Resting against the stone fencing was (M/n). She too has similar mortal wounds like (F/n). The woman's husband limped over faster and stumbled beside his wife's body. He quickly embraced her and looked at her barely open eyes.

(F/n):"It's going to be okay, honey." He assured with tears beginning to roll down his face. (M/n) blinked her emotions away and struggled to speak.

(M/n):"Y-You....have to....p-protect our son...." She managed to muttered weakly. (F/n) shook his head.

(F/n):"No, we raised him well. He will be alright. We'll be alright." He stated shakily. (M/n) smiled weakly before speaking again.

(M/n):"I love you....tell my son....that....I love him too...." She pleaded one last time. (F/n) stifled his sobs and nodded.

(F/n):"I will...." He promised. (M/n)'s body went limp, and all of the life sucked out of her body. (F/n) stared wide-eyed at his wife's dead body in his arms. He remained motionless as a pair of footsteps began approaching (F/n).

Alistair:"It's a shame, I was hoping it didn't have to come this way." He said in a genuine disappointed tone. (F/n) began to shake uncontrollably.

(F/n):"We will not have my son be a tool in your personal endeavors." He growled with a deathly tone. Alistair sighed sadly before turning and walking away.

Alistair:"Don't worry, (F/n). I'll make sure to watch over (Y/n). After all, I am his godfather." He stated, as he continued walking. In a split-second, (F/n) whipped around with his P226 and readied to shoot Alistair in the head, but was outgunned by his target.

Alistair:"Sorry old partner." He apologized and holstered his pistol. (F/n) dropped to the ground dead with his wife. His pistol clattered away and lied beside (F/n)'s body. Syrius walked over and stared at the two corpses.

Syrius:"Should we leave it this way?" He asked his superior. Alistair nodded.

Alistair:"We've planted enough evidence to have a rage induced teenager hunt down our guerrilla bait." He assured. Syrius nodded and began to follow after Alistair.

Syrius:"It's too bad I couldn't get to torture them. Considering they made me 'clean' up nearly 90% of our soldiers." He complained.

Alistair:"Don't worry. The time will come when you will have your chance to experiment. For now, we must head out. The Thailand government can only turn a blind eye for so long, and Foley's diplomatic situation will be over soon." He notified Syrius of his plans.

Syrius:"Understood, have fun at your UN meeting while I go extract the killer teen."

Timeskip....

In a dark room was a young boy curled up in a corner. He was covered from head to toe in blood. Those of which, do not belong to him. They were a result of (Y/n) slaughtering all of the rebels.

Syrius:"Hmm....." The male hummed in thought. He was standing behind a one-way glass window. Alongside him was Alistair. He too looked like he was in deep thought.

Syrius:"I get that his parents are gone and all, but why is he just sitting there? It's been days." He questioned in disappointment. Alistair shook his head and looked at Syrius with a stern face.

Alistair:"That is a problem you must solve. Make sure to build him up to the perfect candidate he is destined to be. Understood?" He ordered his subordinate. Syrius nodded tiredly.

Syrius:"Yeah-yeah. I'll recruit him into the whole cliche, 'put your skills into a good cause'. That should train him enough before we shove super-steroids into his body." He restated the plan in order to appease Alistair.

Alistair:"Good. Because I would have just wasted (F/n) and (M/n)'s lives for nothing if this project does not produce results."

Timeskip...

Alistair sat in his office with a satisfied look. He was reviewing the accomplishments that (Y/n) had done since being placed into Foley's new project. Unbeknownst to Foley, it was all being backed by the person he betrayed himself.

Alistair:"London, France, Spain, he's performing past my expectations." He stated with minute glee. Suddenly, the door opened to reveal Syrius.

Syrius:"Boss, (Y/n) has just returned from neutralizing those Russian separatists." He reported. Alistair waved that conversation away and began to speak.

Alistair:"Enough of that, prepare the serum. He is ready." He ordered. Syrius looked baffled.

Syrius:"I know it has been several years, but he's still headstrong. There hasn't been enough to break him. What if he takes that newfound power we give him and turns it against us?" He questioned. Alistair gave him a stern glare.

Alistair:"Then you make sure to keep him in line. I didn't rescue you from execution to have you slack off." He stated sternly and walked out of the room. Syrius sighed tiredly.

Syrius:"Fine, but don't blame me if I break the kid."

Timeskip...

Alistair:"It worked...IT ACTUALLY WORKED!" He shouted in glee. Syrius sat in the room with a bored look and fiddled with his drill. While the other person had an upset look. He had raven hair, blue eyes, and a scowl to complete the look.

Kyle:"I was there you know?" He whined. Alistair shot him a subtle glare to shut up.

Alistair:"We both know that (Y/n) was the one that took down that Somalian army. Not you." He corrected.

Syrius:"Yeah, how is that going to fly with the countries running around with Foley?" He asked with an annoyed tone. The male worked under Foley and would receive backlash if (Y/n) were to do something out of line.

Alistair:"Don't worry. Foley will somehow cover it up. Plus he won't touch a global asset." He assured.

Syrius:"Yeah, but that doesn't mean he'll touch me. I already have to deal with trying to steer Foley's team away from your Taliban contact without exposing myself. I don't want to deal with this now." He continued to complain.

Kyle:"Yeah, but you would like being touched by Foley, wouldn't you?" He snickered.

Syrius:"Shut up before I break you, like I did to your brother." He threatened.

Timeskip...

Alistair:"So the boy has broken out. It was bound to happen." He said into the cellphone. The male was sitting in a plain hallway with a suit on. In his other hand was a folder with the number six on the cover.

Syrius:"Yeah, but I think I did a number on him. Marco meant a lot to the kid." He reported. Alistair nodded in thought at the information he was receiving. Suddenly, the door beside the male opened to reveal a dark skinned woman with a distressed look.

Alistair:"Hmm. I have a perfect idea. You're going have to set up base in Thailand though." He ordered.

Syrius:"Thailand? Why that low-level base?" He questioned. Alistair smiled evilly on the inside.

Alistair:"Let's just say I have a plan that will move our project to the next level." He finished before hanging up. Alistair stood up and waved to the woman that entered the hallway.

Alistair:"Hey! What's wrong?" He asked with fake concern. The woman shook her head and looked at Alistair. On her chest was a nameplate. It read: Six.

Six:"Director, I don't think that Foley or other countries will back this program with just several special forces operators combined." She admitted. Alistair flashed her a reassuring smile.

Alistair:"I know someone that will guarantee a success to any mission. No matter how impossible it is." He suggested. Six gave him a bewildered look.

Six:"Who?" She asked skeptically.

Alistair:"Ever heard of a reaper sent from heaven?"

Timeskip...

Alistair:"How disappointing..." He muttered in a slightly upset tone. Alistair stood several feet away from an operating table. Lying on the bed was non other than Syrius himself.

Thanatos:"I told you he couldn't be trusted with that task alone." He reminded the leader of the White Masks.

Alistair:"I was wrong. That's why I'm depending on you to infiltrate team Rainbow. (Y/n) survived miraculously, and is growing more uncontrollable by the minute." He told the raven haired soldier.

Thanatos:"Don't worry. (Y/n) failing to safely extract during this situation already proves that there is a weakness. I just need time to find it." He assured.

Alistair:"You better. Because he's the only perfect candidate for this project." He stated with sincerity before leaving Thanatos.

Thanatos:"I know...." He muttered bitterly while rubbing his old scars. Ones that reminded him that he was just a failed test subject.

A/n: This is all I can put out right now. The second part will come in several days. Please bear with me because it's a lot of plot, and I don't want to put out a half-assed flashback. Hope you all enjoyed.
