Missing You

Chapter 2

Draco looked through the window of the little coffee shop. It was well after midnight. It had been over two weeks since he’d saved Elizabeth from the speeding car that nearly took her out. At first he thought he had wasted his time, but then he saw her walking from the back. He felt his body react and tighten up at the sight of her. Elizabeth was the same, but different. When he had seen her last she had looked like some beautiful dark haired water nymph, all wet and lovely. Now he could see her hair, which hung down her back in loose gold waves, with just a hint of copper in it. She was beautiful. She had on a pair of cute little skinny jeans that fit tight around the hips and a flowing peasant shirt of pale blue, it hung off one shoulder, but gathered at her hips, it showed off her flawless skin, which was like cream.  She was wearing a pair of dark blue ballerina type slippers on her dainty feet.

Draco stood there watching her for a little while as she smiled and helped the few customers that were in there. She smiled at most of them, except one very grumpy looking man at the bar. Draco finally got up the courage and decided to go in, wondering if she would recognize him. He didn’t have on his black suit from the other night. No, he had decided to dress like a muggle, in comfortable jeans, a plaid shirt with a t-shirt under it and some brown leather shoes. He wore his black wool coat over it.

He didn’t say anything as he went and took a seat in the back corner booth, facing the rest of the shop. He waited. Elizabeth had been busy with her grumpy customer and hadn’t seen him yet. But then suddenly she looked up and as if she felt him, she looked over, a lovely smile lit up her face. She dismissed the old man and immediately made her way over to him. Draco couldn’t quite keep the small smile off his own lips.

“Draco,” she said softly as she walked over, “I thought I would never see you again.”

“Did you miss me, Elizabeth?” he teased, “You did purchase an umbrella, I hope. And please tell me you have not had any more incidents involving speeding automobiles?”

“Which question do you want me to answer first,” she laughed; that beautiful sound that made his heart beat faster. When he had went back to his home the night he’d met Elizabeth it had been hard. He had lain on his bed beside his wife, and his thoughts were consumed by this girl. It didn’t get any better the next day or the next couple of weeks. He had tried to stay away from her but it had been impossible. She was never far from his mind and the more he was around his wife, with her cold, proper and snobbish ways, the more he wanted to escape to be around Elizabeth, who was like a ray of sunshine and warmth in the middle of the coldest day.

“Why don’t you start with the umbrella?” he laughed, “Do you have one?”

Elizabeth looked away, “Well, I have just been so busy….”

Draco stopped her, grabbing her hand and placing something in it. It was the umbrella he had used the other night, “It’s yours, so no more excuses. I can’t have you running around rainy London and catching a cold.”

“Thanks,” she blushed slightly, “and no I have not had any more incidents involving motorized vehicles.”

“Okay, so that answers those two questions. And now for the first question I asked you. Do you remember what it was?” he put her on the spot.

Draco watched as the blush crept up her cheeks, her flawless creamy skin turning pink, her bright, ocean blue eyes sparkling. He noticed that there was a slight bit of green in her blue eyes that made them look like the clear waters of the sea in the tropics, he had never been, but he’d seen it in books, “Do you want the truth?” she asked, looking deep into his eyes, despite the blush of embarrassment.

“It would be nice,” he said smartly, not meaning to, it just came out that way.

“Yes, Draco Malfoy, I did miss you. Even though I shouldn’t, I missed you,” she said it seriously, no smile, just a look of longing and desperation on her face. And something else was in that look too. Was it possibly guilt? If so, why? Did she have someone else in her life also, Draco thought.

He watched as she turned away and went to help her customers. All of them were leaving except for the grumpy old man. Elizabeth came back over to him, slightly flushed, “I’m sorry, you threw me off with your question. Did you want me to get you something? Some tea or coffee?” she asked, looking at him with those eyes he wanted to drown in.

“Some tea would be nice, but only if you can come join me,” he insisted.

“Well, I can take a break now, so I will be right back.”

Elizabeth came back and brought out the tea service and set it on the table. She was about to sit across from him when he took her hand gently and pulled her around and slide over for her to sit on the booth beside him. She was about to pour when he stopped her, taking the tea pot in his bigger hand, his long fingers wrapping around the handle, “I’ll pour,” he said roughly, and when he was done he noticed Elizabeth holding her hands in her lap awkwardly. He had to do something to loosen her up because she had suddenly become shy and uncomfortable with him after admitting what she had.

“So, the other night you said you had two jobs. What is your other job?” Draco sat sideways against the wall, watching her as he sipped the tea. Elizabeth stirred cream into her tea with long slender fingers.

Draco watched her light up and change as she told him about her acting. She told him about her theater troupes’ performances and the one she was performing in right now. It was amazing the change that came over her; it was like she had looked at him when she first saw him sitting in the booth. It was obvious that she loved performing. She also gave him a little performance, telling him about the story behind each scene. She was unlike any woman he’d ever met, but she wasn’t his. And it brought sadness to him as he thought of what might have been if he’d met her only five years ago, before he’d married Astoria Greengrass, or even after the battle for Hogwarts, when his family had nearly been destroyed. He had realized how wrong he’d been back then and he still carried the scars of that awful time when the dark lord had nearly destroyed all of them. Draco knew that Elizabeth could have helped him heal and get over it all. But she was here now, and not much had changed in his life.

“I also go to the University here in London, but I don’t know how much longer I can keep it up,” she looked at him, and he could see that this depressed her. Draco also noticed how tired she looked.

“Maybe you need to give up one of your jobs,” he suggested, he took her hand, “I can tell you are tired and you are working too hard. That was one of the reasons you nearly got yourself killed that night,” he finished a little angrily.

“That would be nice, but school is the main reason I have to work two jobs. I have to pay for it,” she didn’t remove her hand, but actually squeezed his a little, and he could feel the warmth and his blood stirring a little, “Thanks for the concern, but I only have one more year until a graduate and I am going to try my best to finish.”

“You shouldn’t have to work this hard,” Draco meant it too. He had never met anyone like Elizabeth Thorne. The thought of his wife having to work made him laugh. All she ever did was want and hit him up for money, and as long as she got what she wanted things were tolerable in his household. But that still didn’t keep her from treating him coldly in the bed and outside of it. What had he expected from a pureblood arranged marriage?

Draco felt his blood start boiling as Elizabeth took his hand in her own, caressing it gently with her long dainty fingers. She was tracing the outline of them and he could feel his body responding as he looked at her full pink lips, that were just right for his own and he imagined kissing her and what she would taste like.

Suddenly the moment was interrupted by the grumpy old man at the counter, “Hey, could you two love birds chill out over there so I can get a refill,” he demanded, shooting Elizabeth a dirty look. Draco had been about to do something to the man; he didn’t need his wand to do a spell in his mind. But just as he was going to, the little pitcher of creamer sitting nearby slowly slide forward and then it was in the man’s lap. All over his lap the cream went. The man got up crying out in shock. He started grabbing napkins to clean himself off.

“Here, let me help you, sir,” Elizabeth said sweetly, as she ran over.

“Get away from me,” he said sharply and quickly pulled on his coat and left.

Elizabeth burst out laughing, which made Draco start into a fit of laughter, “Did you see the look on his face?” she gasped out as she came back over. She sat next to him and leaned into him when she laughed.

“It was hilarious,” Draco laughed, “but how did it happen?”

Just after he said it, Elizabeth got quiet, “Beats me, but it sure was great.”

“Elizabeth, cream pitchers don’t just slide across the counter and fall into someone’s lap,” he was looking at her deeply and saw the look on her face before she could change it. She had done it. She had done it before he could even try.

“I don’t know, that was strange,” she said innocently.

“You did it, didn’t you Elizabeth?”

“Are you mad, no one can do something like that?” she scoffed.

“Really,” he said, and suddenly the tea pot started sliding toward her, making her jump back in the booth, as it stopped right on the edge. Then just as quickly it went back where it was.

Elizabeth looked up at him very differently. It was the look of someone who had thought they were the only one in on a secret only to find another who knew it as well, “You can do it too?” she asked.

“I can do that and a lot more,” he smiled at the amazed and awed look on her face.

“I use to think I was some sort of freak,” Elizabeth cried out, tears were starting to gather in her eyes, “Do you know how hard it is controlling the powers I have. My parents were the worst about it,” and Elizabeth told him some of the stuff she had gone through growing up and how hard it was to keep her magical abilities hidden from others.

“Did your parents have any magical ability?” he asked, his heart going out to her as he realized all she had gone through and that she had somehow been overlooked by Hogwarts.

Draco explained to her his own abilities and talked about Hogwarts. Telling her about the school and how she should have been there. She had obviously been born to two muggles which made her what he would have called her several years back, a mudblood. But Draco had changed since his school days at Hogwarts and his experience with the dark lord. It didn’t bother him at all that she was not a pureblood; he had been attracted to her when he had thought she was a muggle.

“If my parents had gotten the letter for me to attend Hogwarts or someone had visited they would not have let me go anyway,” she said sadly, “They were too caught up in their own lives to care, let alone allow their freakish daughter to attend some school for magical children.” Draco could feel the hurt and pain coming from her like a palpable thing. His own parents may not be the greatest in the world but at least he knew they loved him and tried to do their best for him whether it was the right thing or not.

“Well, you are not a freak,” he said, trying to soothe her, “there are plenty of us out there.”

Elizabeth looked at him with relief and something else and then she leaned across the booth and hugged him, “Thank you for showing me this. You just don’t know how much it means to me to find this out,” she said softly. Draco was in shock at first, but then he felt his own arms going around her and it just felt so right. Damn, why couldn’t he have met her before? Why didn’t her damn parents send her to Hogwarts? At least there he would have known her before his marriage. Yeah and he probably would have treated her like crap because she would have been considered a mudblood by all of his Slytherin friends and pureblood associates. No, this was the right time. Now that he knew better how the real world was.

She came out of the hug and Draco didn’t want to let her go, but had to, “Well, it is time for me to get off work now,” she said quietly.

“Do you walk home?” he asked.

“Yeah, I do it every night I am working.”

“You don’t take the train?” he asked not liking the thought of her walking home by herself so late at night.

“No, but it’s not too far.”

“I’m going with you,” he insisted. Demanded was more like it.

Elizabeth laughed, “I will be alright.”

“It doesn’t matter, I am walking with you, so get your coat,” he said matter of fact.

“Yes sir. If you insist,” she smiled over at him.

They left the little coffee shop behind and made their way down the streets towards Elizabeth’s flat. They had to go back by the Theater district, which was quiet now because it was so late. She showed him the little theater where she performed three nights a week. He kept it in mind and the dates and times for future reference. Only a few more streets down they came to the apartment building where Elizabeth stayed. Draco wanted her to ask him up so bad, but he knew that wasn’t a good idea. They had only just gotten to know each other and he had to think of his wife, which made his stomach feel sour as he looked at this beautiful, bright girl beside him.

“Thank you,” she whispered softly, and looked at him, almost as if she didn’t want to leave his company. “Well, I better go up. Good night, Draco Malfoy. I hope we meet again soon.” She turned to walk away.

Draco wasn’t quite sure what came over him, but he couldn’t just let her leave like that, “Wait,” he grabbed her arm and gently pulled her back and into his arms. Then he captured her lips with his own, half expecting her to pull away and slap him. When that didn’t happen he was even more shocked when he felt her arms go up around his neck, her hands going into his hair. He increased the pressure of the kiss until she opened her mouth for him, and it was like heaven. Soft and warm and she tasted delicious. It was unlike any kiss he had ever had and it only made him want more. She began running her hands along his neck and back and pressed her soft, curvy little body into his and Draco moaned, he couldn’t help himself. It had been a long time since he’d had sex; his wife didn’t care for it much. He knew he was hard as a rock and Elizabeth probably felt it to, especially as he pressed into her, her body up against the brick wall near the stairs. He could feel her hands running along his back and down to his waist and he was running his all through her glorious honey and copper hair, holding her face to deepen the kiss, then his fingers ran down her neck and he ran his hands along the sides of her breast and down to her waist. His hands went to her butt and gently squeezed then pulled her tighter up against him and his hard sex. This time Elizabeth moaned; it was a sweet sound inside his mouth. Draco ran his lips along her face and jaw and then her neck.

But she broke it all off, “Oh, I can’t do this,” she moaned out sadly. Elizabeth pulled away and looked away embarrassed. “I’ve got to go,” she said quickly and almost ran for the door to the building.

“Elizabeth,” Draco said roughly, his voice full of passion, “I missed you too.” Draco watched as she practically ran up the stairs, glancing back one last time before she used the code to get through the door. Draco watched her for a bit until she was gone, up the elevator. He had to get control of his body before he walked away. If she had not put a stop to what they were doing to each other he would have had her right there on the street and he would have been oblivious; that was how much he wanted to be with her. Draco wanted to be inside of her. It wasn’t just about the sex. There was more to this than that. He had never felt this all-consuming feeling about anyone else and most especially his wife. If it weren’t for his young son, whom he loved more than anything, he would have already left Astoria.

As Draco finally headed back to the entrance to Diagon Alley he begin to imagine what his life would be like if it were Elizabeth waiting on him when he returned home, in his bed and helping him raise his son. He knew she would be a good mother, he could see that. Then his thoughts turned to imagining Elizabeth as the mother of his children and what fun they would have conceiving them. Draco Malfoy, he thought to himself, you really have it bad. But this thing he had wasn’t a bad thing. He just had to convince himself and his little magical actress.
