Chapter 2: Hospitals

Hello everyone~! I apologize for the very long wait. I ended up deleting Wattpad from my phone because I'm literally almost out of space for some damn reason. So now I'll be updating on a laptop. But ohh myyyy laaaawwwd I am so done with school man. I have two projects due in a few weeks with such little time to work on them icri. (I'm looking at you NHD >:( ) So updates will be so freaking slow oh my god. ಥ‿ಥ

But anywhoooo, enough with my excuses and let's get to the story~

-???'s POV-

I yawned loudly as I sat up and stretched my sore back. I rubbed my eyes to get the sleepiness out of them as I sat back down.

I eyed the 14-15-year-old girl lying unconscious in the hospital bed in front of me as I furrowed my (thick) brows. Why on bloody Earth was she just kneeling out in the pouring rain without a coat or an umbrella?

I scowled. But then again, I was out in the pouring rain taking a midnight walk...

I sighed as I propped my head up against my fist, my emerald eyes taking in her appearance once again. She had (H/L) (H/C) hair and (S/C) skin. Her lips were still tinted a slight purple but they were slowly showing their natural lip color.

As I continued to stare, my mind began to replay the previous events.

~~~Flashback~~~
I shut my eyes as I released a content sigh while shutting the last Harry Potter book close. No matter how many times I read this series, it never ceases to bewitch me. Pun intended.
I set the hard-cover book down onto my nightstand as I sat up in my place in bed. Near my blanket-covered legs was Flying Mint Bunny sound asleep with Tinkerbell snoozing along with her atop her back. I smile as I pet Flying Mint Bunny's soft head before getting out of bed.
Once out of the warm confines of my blanket, I walked out the room and headed straight towards the kitchen where I made one of my most favorite teas, Earl Gray.
I sipped daintily on the warm tea as I stared out the window and into the darkening sky. As I surveyed the outside world, I suddenly got the urge to go on a walk. 'How weird... but, I'll walk anyway.'
I swiftly finished the rest of my Earl Gray and got dressed in my usual attire. I put on my large coat from off the coat rack and grabbed an umbrella. Taking my keys, wallet, and phone, I walked out the house, locked the door, and proceeded to walk around my humble home of London.
After walking around for what I guess was somewhere around 10-15 minutes, ending up around the London Bridge, the wind began to pick up as distant rumbling was heard from within the cloud cover. Quickly, I opened my umbrella to shield me from any possible rain. I may be a country and a once powerful empire, but in no way did I have the power to control the weather.
And instead of returning home, I opted to continue my walk around, somewhat finding solace in the gloomy weather even though it was always like that here in Britain. And as expected, it began to rain until it suddenly turned into a downpour.
An irritated pout appeared on my face as I furrowed my eyebrows. Seems like I might have to cut my walk short- wait, what is that?
I squinted my eyes to get a better look at the strange lump laying-- slumping? -- on the sidewalk a somewhat long distance away from me. But I sadly couldn't see much through the amount of rain dropping to the earth.
I walked a little bit closer to see what it was and called out to it to see if it would respond. "Hello? Who's there? Ah- what the bloody hell?! Are you alright?!" My eyes widened when I saw a teenager who looked no older than 15 kneeling onto the pavement. She wore a pair of jeans, a shirt, and a jacket, and was absolutely drenched.
She gave me this surprised and shocked look as if not expecting anyone to be out in a storm like this. I tried to get to her side to see if I could help her, but her eyes immediately shut close as she fell forward.
Dropping my umbrella and forgetting about it in the process, I sprinted to her and caught her before her head fell onto the pavement. I released a breath I didn't realize I was holding in as I took in the girl's horrid complexion.
Her (H/C) hair and clothes were horribly drenched. Her face was a ghostly white and her lips were a dark purple.
I placed my head against her chest, trying to hear or feel for a heartbeat. My blood ran cold as I released a gasp. Immediately, I rushed to get my phone from out of my coat pocket and called 999.
"Good evening, this is the London Emergency Services, how may I be of assistance?"
"Hello! Please, I need you to come quickly. I found a teenage girl near London Bridge and she's not breathing!"
"Sir, I'm going to need you to calm down and tell me who this lass is and how she ended up there."
"I don't know! She was just out here in the pouring rain kneeling against the ground and-"
"Don't worry, just breathe, sir. We have sent an ambulance your way."
I could only nod meekly as I grit my teeth angrily. Why on bloody earth was a little girl doing in a storm like this!?
After the call, I picked up the girl and carried her soaking body underneath the umbrella of a shop in front of us. Setting her back down, I shrugged off her jacket and brought her close to me in hopes of warming her at least a little with my body heat.
Soon after, paramedics from the London Bridge Private Hospital appeared, their sirens blaring loudly through the thunderous rain. A few workers took the girl from within my arms as others took out the stretcher. After placing her upon it, they laid an electric blanket over her to warm her up and carried her into the van. I followed suit as the van prepared to drive back.
Once we arrived they immediately took the young lady out and rushed her inside. I hustled in after them as a doctor and several nurses appeared and brought her into an empty operating room.
I stood outside the room in silence, my own self somewhat soaked as I thought of what was to become of this strange girl. Suddenly, a tall nurse with a bob cut appeared holding a clipboard and pen. "Hello, sir, would you please follow me so that we may register you and your visit to the hospital and so we may question you on the girl you came with."
I could only nod silently as she led me to wherever in the hospital.
~~~ Time Skip ~~~

"Are you sure you don't know who she is?"

I furrowed my eyebrows in irritation as I crossed my arms and legs. "For the last time, I don't know."

The doctor could only nod silently and glance at me apprehensively before placing his attention back to whatever was on his clipboard. I clicked my tongue quietly as I leaned back in my chair. "If you want to know so badly, then why don't you go ask the girl?"

The man lowered the clipboard onto his lap and gave me a hard stare as his tone of voice was sharp and cold. "I would love to Mr. Kirkland but I'm afraid the operation still hasn't finished-" "Ah, Doc, mind if I borrow good ol' Arthur Kirkland here?" A smooth voice with a slight accent interrupted the interrogation casually as the owner leaned against the doorway.

The man across from me swiveled his head to the right to see a tall dark-skinned man with glasses and slight stubble smiling sweetly. He blushed lightly and began to stutter, something totally different to the way he was acting earlier. "O-O-Of course you can Mr. Mulligan!"

Mr. Mulligan could only chuckle in response before winking at him. "Thanks, Petey."

"Petey" could only nod quickly as I stood up from my seat and walked over to Mr. Mulligan with a look of gratitude. He simply smiled before showing me the way back to the emergency rooms.

When we were no longer within earshot of where Petey was, I spoke up to Mr. Mulligan. "Thank you very much for getting me out of there. I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't gotten there." Mulligan could only laugh heartily in response, gaining a few questioning stares from others nearby.

"Haha, yeah, sorry about him. Petey has a tendency to do that to everyone he first meets." I could only nod and hum in response as we entered a corridor full of doors and numbers. "But he never was like that to me when we first saw each other here. I wonder why.." Mulligan wistfully stated with a small smile as my mind wandered over to how Petey reacted to Mr. Mulligan earlier.

"But onto more pressing matters," Mulligan stated in a serious tone as I turned to him. "The girl you came in with-- she had an extremely severe case of hypothermia and may need to stay here for a day or two so that we can do a few more tests on her physical state."

I nodded in response as we stopped in front of a set of white doors numbered #15.

"But the good thing is is that the operation was a success and she'll be up and okay by the time we're finished with her so you won't have to worry about her too much."

I let out a sigh of relief and smiled. "Well, that's good to hear, Dr. Mulligan. Could- Can I go and check up on her?" Mr. Mulligan could only chuckle before waving to the door. "She's all yours." I nodded in appreciation as he smiled at me before walking off to do his other doctorly business.

I took in a deep breath before pushing the doors open and entering the room.

There in all her pale glory slept the girl I helped, a series of tubes attached to her body with a heart monitor beeping quietly next to her. I grabbed a chair nearby and pulled it close to her bed and sat down to study her appearance.

Her (H/C) hair was now dry and her lips were still tinted purple. Her skin no longer looked as if she were on death's door, but she still looked pale nonetheless. But she had dark bags and slight stress lines the tarnished her somewhat clear complexion.

I slowly lifted a hand to touch her skin, to see if she still felt deathly cold like the first time we made skin contact and wasn't surprised when it was still like how I expected it to be.

Sighing softly, I pulled my chair in closer to her and used my arm as an armrest as I continued to study her sleeping state.

Before long, I shut my eyes softly and fell asleep.

~~~ Present Time ~~~
I frowned once more as I propped up my head against my hand, my mind muddled with wonder. The heart monitor the only sound heard within the white walls of the room.
Until the doors of the room opened, causing me to turn my head to see who was entering.
At the doorway stood Dr. Mulligan and Dr. Petey with mugs in hand. Dr. Mulligan was showcasing his usual carefree smile as Dr. Petey's face was blank.
The smell of dark roasted coffee wafted in the air as Mulligan waved in greeting. "Good morning, Mr. Kirkland. How was your stay?"
I yawned and smiled. "Aside from a sore back, I say it was quite fine." Dr. Mulligan's smile widened as he chuckled softly. "Hah, that's good to hear. We pride ourselves in showing maximum hospitality and service to our patients." He glanced at Petey's blank expression. "Well, most of us."
Dr. Petey could only grumble quietly as he took a sip of his coffee with his cheeks a slight pink.
"Anyway, we came to check up on the girl but while we do that, you can go get breakfast, Mr. Kirkland," Mulligan stated kindly as he lifted the blanket from off of the teen. "Oh, that sounds lovely. I'll be back in a bit." I stated happily as I stood up from my seat, not even realizing that I still had to go eat.  "See you later, Mr. Kirkland," Dr. Mulligan waved as he sent me a kind smile, pausing in whatever he was doing. I merely returned that same smile as I walked out the room to get breakfast.
~~~ ???'s POV~~~

I stared at where that dumb blonde once stood as I held my cup of coffee tightly, my gut giving me a bad feeling about him. I "Tch'ed" quietly as I looked in some other direction, trying to place my thoughts on some other matter before they landed on the brat that laid in bed asleep. (Y/N) (L/N). Oooh, you were in so much trouble. But if I brought you back, then maybe he... he.... I shivered delightfully at the unfinished thought. Oh, how I can't wait~.

"..etey... He.... Pete... Petey!" I blinked in surprise as my eyes made contact with Hercules' warm brown eyes. Getting back into action, I 'blushed' at the close proximity and began to 'stutter'  as I immediately backed up. "A-Ah M-Mulligan wh-what're y-you doing?!" Doctor Hercules Mulligan gave me a cheeky smile as he lifted a hand to ruffle my hair. Man, if I wasn't already smitten with him then I'd be all over this man. "Aha, sorry Petey but you weren't paying attention to me so I had to. But that face you're making is really cute though," Mulligan laughed warmly, his hands trailing a little bit down the side of my face, triggering a small tingle of delight, before going back to his side. Damn, I'd definitely be all over Mulligan.

My blush deepened as I looked at everything but Mulligan. "S-So what was it that you needed?" I coughed out, pretending to clear my throat as I 'tried' to fight down my blush. "Oh, right!" Mulligan exclaimed, his face lighting up as he now remembered what he was gonna ask Dr. Petey. "Petey, could you watch over our dear patient while I go get more heating pads. It seems that she might stay here a while longer if she doesn't start warming up soon."

I simply nodded as Hercules ruffled my hair again. "Thanks, partner. See ya in a bit." He smiled at me before shuffling out the door quietly, leaving me alone with the man of my dreams' offspring. Hmm, should I bring him to (Y/N) now or later...? I placed a hand on my chin, as if in deep thought before waving it with a knowing smile. Nah, if I told him now, he'll probably come right in and blow the entire place down from finding out his one and only kin is in the hospital.

 I walked closer to (Y/N), a strange and deranged smile on my face. I placed a hand on her cold cheek as I let out a breathless laugh. "Oh, don't you worry (Y/N). I'll get you to your daddy soon and then we'll finally be one big happy family."
