Chapter 41 - The First Move

A/N: Unedited. ;P

A few days after Daniel received that call and after his dad left for Europe, he had been staying over at his lovely fiancée's house the whole time, and also, the both of them were learning another language, the entire time.

It was Monday, yet again and they had to go back to school. Kristina was exhausted—she felt like her head was going to split apart after trying her best to learn. Daniel, on the other hand, seemed like he already mastered the language seeing that he could even speak it fluently. That boy is definitely not human.

"Stupid... Genius..." Kristina kept mumbling to herself as they were entering the classroom. Daniel silently laughed.

"Sou? Arigatou-ne, kawaii no Poopy-chan."  He said in a sarcastic way, though he doubted Kristina would understand.

Oh really? Thanks, my cute little Poopy

When Kristina reached her desk peacefully, she felt strange. She felt like something was out of place... That's right. There weren't two female aliens present in the room to annoy the hell out of her again. Where could those two be?

"Tinz!" A male voice called from behind. She groaned, but then smiled. Some things never change. She was glad he's back to normal and finally got the courage to apologize and even confess to her Daniella a few days ago. That ends one problem. Kristopher came running towards her direction, but he didn't hug her like he usually would, which surprised everyone in the room.

Instead, put his hands around his waist like a proud little boy and flashed the girl a wide and toothy grin. "Gooood morning!"

"Good... morning..." Kristina replied, unsure of herself. Who knows? This might be a new tactic and as soon as she lets her guard down, that octopus-head might do something stupid again. "You're early."

"Yup!" He cheerfully laughed. He glanced at Daniel and put an arm around his cousin's shoulder. He gave him a tight squeeze after that, which earned excited gasps from the girls inside the classroom.

Could it be..?

He lost interest in Tina and was now engaging himself towards Daniel... Towards...

Forbidden love..?

Or even possibly...

Bromance?!

Hah. Hell no. The author is just messing with your head.

"Good morning Danny!" he yelled at his ear. Daniel winced and shot him a glare. Kristopher pulled him at a short distance, in order to tell him something important and in order for Kristina not to hear. He made it look like a casual approach between friends, so it wouldn't look too obvious. His face went from cheerful, into serious, but only for a split second when he said as low as he could... "Danny, Richard Yao called me last night."

Daniel's eyes shot open and looked at his cousin intensely. Kristopher gave him a nod. "We'll discuss this later, everyone's getting suspicious."

After that, his expression changed into a cheerful one again and he skipped towards the door, where, in perfect timing, Ella and Daniella arrived. Kristopher swore his jaw dropped to the floor. The two girls looked like they were glowing today. They weren't wearing any make-up—or it seemed like it, because they looked like natural beauties.

In truth, last weekend, after Daniella promised to make Ella get over Sean, she decided to go with her plan. Seeing that it would be a bit difficult, because they were classmates with that guy, Daniella told her friend that it would be great to have a little revenge first.

Her idea was to show Sean how happy she was without him in her life anymore. Because, as her seniors always say, the best way to forget a past love, is to find a new love. Though it might be easier said than done.

Daniella was gonna play matchmaker, and she was so excited. In fact, she already executed phase one from her plan. And that was to make Ella look prettier than usual. She didn't have a lot of trouble, since Ella was already a beauty. She just made a few improvisations by making her perform an egg-wash every night.

It sounded like a crazy idea but it was true. She surfed the net and read a really interesting article about egg-facials and egg-masks. They only used the whites. It was super effective, natural, inexpensive and their skins looked fresh, smooth and almost perfect. Daniella was proud of her work. Her next mission was to find Ella a decent guy, but before that, make Sean regret he ever let her go...

Ella looked like she was nervous because their classmates kept staring at them, probably wondering what changed, but she just gave them all her usual cheerful smiles. On the other hand, Daniella was scanning the room for Sean. "Where could that guy be..." she mumbled to herself.

"Looking for me?" Kristopher approached them. After hearing his voice, Daniella immediately tensed up and squeezed Ella's hand.

"Ah—Ah! OW!!!" Ella exclaimed. She felt like her hand was nipped by a pair of pliers. When she noticed the surprised and curious glances from everyone around the room, she cleared her throat. "M-My teeth hurts!" She then faked a groan after caressing her cheek. "Serves me right for eating all those chocolate..."

Kristina snorted. She knew when her best friend was lying. Well, it was quite obvious. When Ella spotted her, she immediately dashed to her desk, intentionally leaving Daniella and Kristopher alone. She gave her a quick wink before doing so. "Good luck."

Daniella looked at her feet as she felt her cheeks threatening to rise in color again. "Umm..."

Kristopher looked stirred as to why she kept hiding her face, so he leaned closer to her that he actually bumped her forehead with his and searched her eyes. "Something's different about you today."

Daniella's face turned red seeing how close he was right now. She winced and secretly took a deep breath. "Why—"

"I know!" Kristopher jeered. "You shaved your mini-mustache!"

Her eyes shot open in surprise and irritation. Mini... Mini-mustache? She chuckled cruelly and grabbed his collar, glaring at him with all her might. Her shyness and nervousness gone in a blink of an eye. "Mini-mustache my snow-white arse you jerk!"

Kristopher enjoyed her rage and continued teasing. "I'm sure your arse is as smooth as your face sweetheart."

Daniella gripped his arm and twisted his elbow using only a single finger. Kristopher yelped. "Gee thanks! Want me to mold your face into something nice and smooth too? Maybe something like powder?!"

"Uh—no thanks!" he laughed. He was really having fun despite the fact that he was being tortured by the girl he loved. Oh, love. The things these boys do for the girls they're deeply in love with.

On the other side of the room, Kristina and Ella were giggling at the silly couple while Daniel was occupying himself inside his thoughts. So Richard Yao also contacted Kristopher? This has got to be something big. He was afraid that a lot of people will get involved with this. He silently wished Daniella wouldn't find out. This man is surely causing trouble for everyone. One question stays clear in his mind: What does he want with him and Kristopher?

"Daniel, butthead," Kristina started. Daniel snapped out of his thoughts immediately and turned to look at his fiancé. He mentally sighed and pitied himself after seeing her worried expression. He hated lying to her. "You're spacing out again."

"What?" Ella looked at her, and then at Daniel. "He is? But doesn't he look like that every day?"

"Not today," she glared at him. "There's something going on in his head and I don't believe it's only the Japanese words."

"What..?" Ella looked confused. She had no idea about the whole Japanese thing. Daniel felt his heart break just a little bit. She could see right through him alright. Even though her way of expressing herself was quite different and let's just say unique, he knew she meant good. He was at the same time, happy and sad that she was worried about him.

What will he do once he leaves? He will have to tell her sooner or later. If only he had more time. He only had after New Year's. Which reminded him... Before the New Year is Christmas. What will he get for Kristina? He knew she didn't like material things that much. Maybe something useful. Like a book?

Another thought hit him. If the situation comes to the worst and he can't come back to this country again, how can he fulfil his promise with her? The hundred kisses deal? He certainly won't allow any other guy finish it for him. He's been here for more than three months, yet it had been the most exciting three months of his life. So many things happened. And out of a hundred kisses, only fifteen was scored.

A lot of things were rumbling inside his head and he was about to get a migraine from it all. "Teme..." he cursed in Japanese.

"Hey!" Kristina yelled. Daniel glanced up to her and saw that she was glaring at him. Again. "Were you even listening?"

     He was clueless. "About what?"

Ella and Kristina sighed. Daniella and Kristopher were already beside him too, he didn't realize their presence just now, so he was a bit startled when Daniella excitedly suggested something, but he didn't pay much attention to what it was exactly.

"Mistletoe!" she squealed, obviously planning another mischievous scheme for Daniel and Kristina. Ella openly agreed as Kristina sighed upon writing it down. They were planning for their Christmas party. It was already this Friday and they haven't even started hanging the greens yet. "Make sure the whole ceiling's covered in mistletoes!"

"And I'll make sure to be the closest guy to you whenever you stand under one," Kristopher quipped as Daniella furiously blushed. Ella just laughed. Sean was absent today, so she had one less thing to worry about.

"I can agree to a few mistletoes, but I'm rejecting the idea of covering the whole ceiling with the darn leaf." Kristina argued.

     Then it struck him.

Another bright idea lit up in Daniel's head. He wasn't sure about it, but he thinks he knows what he's gonna get for Kristina on Christmas. He smiled knowing that it'll give his fiancée a great surprise.

*'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'*'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'*'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'*'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'*'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'*

Classes were over; it was dismissal time and Daniel told Kristopher to just give him a call tonight regarding the Yao-issue. They couldn't risk talking about that matter here at school and expose their real identities. And with Daniella and Kristina still around, there was in no way they could discuss it in front of them.

Inside the car along the way home, Daniel noticed that Kristina was staring into space. He decided not to ask as he knew she wouldn't tell him anyway. Even if she did, it wouldn't be fair because she would be completely honest and back when he was caught in a daze; he made up a white lie.'

In truth, Kristina was actually wondering what to get him for Christmas. She was not good at picking stuff; she was definitely not good at cooking, not so good with writing letters either. This was really troublesome. What was she supposed to get for him? It wasn't really necessary to give him anything but she wanted to thank him for... for being him. If she could wrap her feelings into a box then that's what she'd give him. But unfortunately, she couldn't, so she's stuck with the problem of trying to figure out what to get for him.

"Hey Daniel," she called. They were now parked in front of her house, but before they could go inside and deal with her mother's nosiness, she had to ask him. "What do you want for Christmas?"

"You," he simply replied. It was out of habit that he'd tease her. Inside his mind, he was secretly wishing, "What I want for Christmas is to stay here and not leave you again."

Kristina's eye twitched. This was an improvement actually—usually she'd beat him after receiving a ridiculous response like that. She sighed heavily and asked again. "I'm serious."

Daniel thought about it. He didn't care what she'd get for him. As long as it was from her, then he'd consider it special and will treasure it for the rest of his life. Something special... huh. He suddenly thought of an idea that could kill two birds in one stone, but he had to trick her into agreeing to it first. He silently snickered.

"You'll give me anything?" he asked, innocently. Kristina nodded.

"As long as I can afford it."

"What if I don't want material things?"

       "Then what do you want?"

"Something that only you can give me."

Kristina knitted her brows in confusion. "What is it this time? If it's something nasty like being your maid for a day again, then no."

Daniel lightly laughed. "No, that's not it."

"Then WHAT?" Kristina was getting mildly impatient.

He looked deep into her eyes with all the seriousness in his face. Kristina was a bit surprised with that look that she heard her own heart beats, knocking on her chest. His face softened and turned into a playful smile. "What I want for Christmas is to fulfil my promise."

Kristina asked once more, "What promise?"

Daniel's smile grew attractively wider. "The promise with you of course."

Instantly getting his point, she felt the heat in her cheeks rise. The hundred kisses promise? He wasn't serious, was he? She peered over his face again, and damn it he was looking at her, waiting for her response. Why this? This was more troublesome than actually picking a gift. She suddenly wished she didn't ask him.

"That promise?" she gulped, stuttering a bit along the way. Daniel nodded.

"I'm eighty-five kisses short," he grinned.

Kristina seriously thought her heart was gonna drop at any moment. It was pounding so hard that she doubted her ribs were still in place. She averted her gaze and stared at the rear-view mirror outside the car. "A normal person wouldn't actually count those things you know..."

"Well I'm not normal," Daniel pointed out upon grinning. "And I'm just trying fulfil my promises properly."

It wasn't like Kristina didn't like the feeling of his lips brushing hers, but she was just plainly embarrassed to admit and approve it. After they complete this stupid deal, what then? No more kisses? That was vaguely impossible, knowing Daniel, he'd want more to last a lifetime—and surely she does too. But was this really appropriate?

It was a simple request and a simple wish. Should she just agree? It would save her a lot of time of picking a gift for him...

"When's the deadline?" she asked. Daniel looked up as if he was counting the numbers in the calendar.

       "Just before Christmas."

She caught her breath. Christmas was next Monday, and their class Christmas party was on Friday, so that means... they'd better be working on it already if they wanted to complete it on time. No matter what it is, she always finishes a project right on schedule. But this was an entirely different case.

"...and when do we... start?" she said in a hoarse tone.

Daniel bit his tongue to hold in his laughter. Her reaction and expressions were definitely priceless. "Hmm. Thursday."

That was one day before their party.

"And when I say Thursday," he added. "I mean, we start and end on Thursday."

Kristina couldn't feel her hands and feet anymore. This was certainly on another level. Eighty-five kisses in one day? Can they manage that? No... Daniel can, no doubt. But the question is: can she take it? She might faint from embarrassment.  She's still mentally hitting herself for sounding so agreeable and eager. Why did she accept his proposal again?

"Where?" she asked, trying to sound strong. "I don't want you doing anything stupid inside my house or out in public."

"Then shall I rent us a private room in a love hotel?" he quipped yet again. Kristina blushed bright red and smacked his face on the spot. He couldn't help but laugh. "Tss. Joke! It was a joke!"

"It wasn't funny!" she squirmed like a little girl. He just couldn't control himself from laughing at her flustered face. He cleared his throat in order to sound serious, which failed epically, and told her his real response.

"Thursday at my place. You've never visited my house once, haven't you? My dad's out so we've got the house all to ourselves."

To Kristina, it sounded like he was inviting her to the pits of Hades. She tried her best to keep her jaw from dropping. There was no turning back after this.

To Daniel, this was probably the last time he was gonna ask a favour like this. If he actually finished the promise, then leaving might feel only half as bad than before. What was he saying? Finished or not, he didn't want to leave. But he had to do this. He was also planning, that on Thursday, he was going to tell her all about it. The truth. The last question is: Will the both of them handle the news well?
