"You're joking," Kristina's jaw was on the floor, same with all the other students crowding over the bulletin board. The results of last week's midterm was already posted, and she couldn't believe what she was seeing. "This has got to be some sick joke...right?"
"Wow," Daniel said beside her. Everyone turned their heads at his direction. Apparently, the news of their little bet accidentally slipped out of Ella's mouth, and Trisha's, and Cassey's, and Sean's...
"Trust me Poopy, I tried my hardest to get some of the answers wrong," he shrugged his shoulders. It only made Kristina's knuckles crack. Everybody's spot in the ranking were the same as always, except for her. Instead of being first as usual, she was placed on second. You can guess who was at the top.
"Amazing..." Ella gasped. "The gap of your scores are just by four points! Geniuses..."
"The pres lost."
"The new kid beat the demon!"
"Poor Tina... I wonder what Daniel's gonna make her do this time?"
Gossips instantly took over the stunned silence. Disappointment, anger, confusion and panic went over Kristina's whole body. She cleared her throat loudly and everybody shut up to hear what she was about to say. She faced Daniel; he looked at her with his usual doe-like eyes and both hands inside his pockets. A smug look was slowly curling up his lips.
"Fine," she said. "I lost this time. What's your stupid command?
"I wonder what?" Daniel could't help but say. In truth, he already had something in mind, but he wanted to tease her more. Kristina, Ella and all of their nosy classmates were anxious to know what his command will be. "Hmm..."
"Stop stalling and say it already!" she barked. Just as she said that, everybody turned their heads behind her to see the young celebrity jogging towards her with a stupid grin plastered on his face. "TIIIIIINZ!!!! I MISSED YOU!!!"
"Kristopher..." she groaned and slapped her forehead. He jumped and hugged her before she could even punch his face. "Get off me you big monkey!!!"
"I missed you too Tinz!" He squeezed her.
"SHUT UP!!!"
Daniel sighed and grabbed Kristopher's back collar. He took him like a puppy and placed him away from Kristina. He was already wearing the school uniform. Kristopher shoved his hand away and glared at him. Their eyes were shooting electricity at each other. Everyone was wearing grins and smirks on their faces upon seeing the two boys fight while the dense Kristina was completely oblivious.
"May I help you, Daniel?" Kristopher asked, gritting his teeth. He was clearly annoyed that Daniel pulled his collar for the nth time.
"Yeah," he narrowed his eyes. "You can fetch my books and I'll have two orders of Kung-Pao chicken please."
"Ha-ha," the young celebrity mock-laughed. "You're--"
"Would you two just shut up and go to class?" Kristina rolled her eyes and passed by between them. Ella and their group trailed after her towards the classroom.
"I heard about your bet," Kristopher said after a heavy silence. The stares from their classmates were getting a bit uncomfortable. He rolled up his sleeves and folded his arms, a wicked grin on his face. "So? What is it?"
"None of your business," Daniel replied almost immediately with a cold tone. Kristopher just scoffed.
"Whatever."
After that, everybody just went back to their classrooms as if nothing ever happened. The young celebrity kept smirking at Daniel the whole time, as if he knew something that he didn't. He went to his seat and chatted with the girls as usual. His topic this time was about his new movie, Clash of the Chickens.
Obviously, he made it up because he didn't want to take the midterm exams. The real reason why he was absent was because he visited his dentist. Yes, a lame excuse. He could've just told the truth. He didn't want anyone to know that he was a sweet-freak and had to visit the dentist often to get his teeth checked. Of course, Daniel knew this.
Meanwhile, Kristina's face showed uneasiness. She kept glancing at Daniel. What will his command be? Knowing that butthead, he might ask her to do something ridiculous like buy him lunch or kiss him-- she shuddered from the thought.
The problem this time was that she couldn't complain and object. They made a deal, a bet, and she lost fair and square. She had to accept the fact that Daniel won. Again. He probably noticed her peeking at him, so the corners of his mouth slowly curled up into a smirk.
After class, Daniel went directly outside. Kristina couldn't make out what was inside his head. She was getting too anxious, too nervous, and so were her nosy classmates. Kristopher didn't make it any better.
"Tinz!"
She imagined herself smashing her face on the wall. "What do you want now?"
Kristopher made a mischievous grin. "See? Didn't I warn you about him?"
"Shut up," she bickered.
"He's right," Ella just passed by her desk. "I warned you too. Now I can say my most favorite words."
"What?" Kristina argued.
"Tina," she said, glancing at the smirking Kristopher. They both said in unison, "We told you so."
"Go away Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb."
Ella just laughed and then left, her best friend wanted to be alone for the moment, and she'll give her that. Although her mood didn't get though Kristopher's thick head. He was too persistent and bothered her all day long.
Lunch time came and Daniel wasn't loafing around like usual. In fact, he was no where to be seen. Kristina climbed up the rooftop, he wasn't there. At the cafeteria, not there too. Where could he be? While she was searching for him, Kristopher tagged along, much to her disgust.
"Why'ya lookin' for 'em Tinz?" he yawned and stretched his arms.
"None of your business. Go away."
"Aaaw do you miss him already? How sweet!" he chirped.
"I'm warning you."
"I bet he's missing you right now too! Heehee I can imagine the look on his face right now," he smirked. His thoughts were a bit ridiculous though. He imagined Daniel crying and kneeling on his knees, begging him to give his 'beloved' back. He snickered.
Kristina sighed heavily. "Go away, creep."
"Hey Tinz," he asked. "What does he do when he gets jealous?"
"What?" she stopped in her tracks and looked intensely at him. Kristopher made a silent, victorious laugh. He finally caught her attention.
"You know," he grinned. "If ever he sees you with other guys, what does he do?"
She thought about it for a short while. She remembered the incident back at the beach, when he beat up those guys. Although his help wasn't really needed, she thought. "He doesn't get jealous," she concluded and continued her search.
"Huuuh?" Kristopher didn't look convinced. "How are you so sure?"
"I don't know!" she snapped. "How am I supposed to know how one acts if he's jealous?! That's none of my concern! Now go away because I have more important things to do."
"Important things? You mean searching for your fiance to annoy you again is more important?"
"Yes that's--" answered without thinking. She stopped abruptly and snapped her head at Kristopher, who was grinning at her like he won. "You..."
"Heehee," he chortled. "You really do like him."
"I don't! Now scram before I beat you up!"
"You're shy," he teased. "Ha-ha. Cute."
Kristina rolled her eyes and quickened her steps towards the classroom. Kristopher was following from behind, when all of a sudden he calmly stopped and peeked on his shoulder. Daniel was watching them from the second floor. He smirked at him and ran after the girl.
Daniel scoffed. "What an idiot."
When the afternoon classes ended, everybody dashed from their seats towards Kristina's and Daniel's desks. It seems like they couldn't contain their curiosity and excitement. Kristopher already left. He said he had a meeting with his producers.
"You people are so nosy. Go home, all of you!" Kristina ordered as the president.
"Aaaaw but Tinaa! We need to hear it from Daniel!" Cassey pouted.
"If you can squeeze it out of him, then be my guest," she replied. She's been pestering him the whole day on what his command will be. She wanted to know as early as possible so she can be prepared with his outrageous demands.
"Well?" Sean nudged Daniel's shoulder. "What'cha gonna make her do?"
"Hmm," Daniel mumbled. He didn't look as interested as all of them. He already had something in mind, actually, but he needed to ask her, alone.
"What's hmm supposed to mean?!" Ella was getting anxious as well.
"Hmm. Maybe I'll make her wear a funny costume," he said. Everybody looked a bit disappointed, Kristina didn't look surprised.
"And what would that costume be?" she raised an eyebrow.
Daniel faced her and his mouth twitched from amusement. He was eager to tease her until she shows another new set of embarrassed expressions. "You'll know once we're alone later."
Her eyes widened like saucers and her face went pink. "WHAT?!"
"Yes!" their classmates all applauded.
"Daniel, you sly little devil!" Ella giggled.
Satisfied with his reply, all of their classmates left and went home. It's true. Nobody can keep secrets in this school after all. Daniel stood up and took his keys inside his pockets. He looked at Kristina's glaring face. "What?" he innocently batted his eyelashes.
"You perv. I'll shave your head if you dare make me wear something stupid."
Daniel snorted. "I'll be waiting in the car."
Before going out, Kristina occupied herself with her usual duties as class and council president. She did some paperwork, checked their account book and other stuff. It was already 5:00 in the afternoon when she finally finished.
She reluctantly went to the parking lot and spotted her butthead fiance's car. Daniel was listening to his iPod on the driver's seat. She took a deep breath and sighed heavily. Quickly, she walked towards the vehicle. She wasn't sure whether it was her own footsteps or fast-pounding heart that was making all those thumping sounds.
Finally reaching the car, she opened the door, went inside and slammed it close. Daniel noticed her come in so he started the engines and stepped on the paddle. Kristina was breathing heavily and the atmosphere was just as heavy. Along the whole trip to their house, an awkward silence occupied. They were already alone, and she was waiting for him to make his command. She was desperate to know and the suspense was killing her slowly.
"Say something!" she thought.
As soon as Daniel parked the car infront of Kristina's house, she quickly jumped out and inhaled some air. It was the first time she ever felt so nervous in her whole life. Daniel nonchalantly got out as well and they both walked towards the front door.
"Are you staying for dinner again?" she asked, not looking at his eyes.
"Yeah."
Another moment of uncomfortable silence.
"So? You're not going inside?" she asked again.
"After you."
"Oh. Okay."
She held the door's knob. Gripping it tightly, she bit her lower lip and knitted her brows. She wanted to know what stupid costume he was gonna make her wear. But somehow, she felt nervous about something else, not about the costume. She didn't know where this uneasiness came from. It just bothered her. A lot.
"I'm not..." she stuttered. She took her hand off the knob and looked at him in the face. "I'm not going inside until you tell me what you're gonna make me wear."
"Ha-ha." Daniel snorted again.
"WHAT?!"
"Made you anxious didn't I?"
He grinned and Kristina wanted to punch his nose. She just took a deep breath to control her anger. "Just say it already you butthead."
"Hmm." he pretended to think. "I'm not gonna make you wear a costume."
Her eyes snapped open. "What?! No way! You pervert!" she instantly thought that he meant he was gonna command her to go nude infront of him.
Daniel burst out laughing. "No, you're the perv. I didn't mean it the way it sounded."
For a moment, she sighed in relief when...
"Although, it's not such a bad idea--"
"NO AND SHUT UP!"
She let out a huge, audible breath. "Just tell me what your stupid command is so I can prepare."
Daniel just smiled at her troubled face. Not a smirk, but a real, genuine smile. He slipped his hands inside his pockets and leaned his face closer to her ear. "It's just a simple task actually."
Her hairs stood up and goosebumps became visible from her arms. She wasn't expecting him to come closer. She should've paid more attention, she thought.
"My command goes like this," he whispered, as if he was telling a secret and didn't want anyone else to hear except the both of them. Kristina braced herself and winced.
"Just, don't fall in love with Kristopher."
She hastily raised her head and looked at his face. Was he serious? "Why--"
"Oh you're both finally here!" Lizzy opened the door and chirped at the both of them. She giggled when she found Daniel's face leaning over her daughter's ear. "Oh my. It seems you're both still busy. I'll come back later--"
"No mom!" Kristina scolded. "We're eating dinner. Now!" she dashed inside and went to her room. Lizzy just gave Daniel an apologetic smile and gestured him to come inside. He politely nodded his head and accepted her invitation.
Kristina screamed on her pillow, her heart was still pounding like crazy. "He really is a butthead!" she exclaimed in frustration. The whole time she was nervous on what he might make her do, and after all that, he only asked her to do that ridiculous request. "Why the hell would I--" her voice trailed off. "...fall in love with someone else..."
