Chapter Eleven

We crashed onto the shores of the island with Paul and I fell off, hitting the ground hard. I skidded a bit on the ground, grazing my arm, while Paul landed on his injured arm, making him yell in pain. I quickly got up, ignoring the stinging pain of my grazes, and immediately came to his side, helping him up. He grasped his arm, rubbing it slightly, before I noticed it had started to bleed once more, bleeding through his bandage quickly

"Paul, sit down," I told him. "Your arm-"

"I'll be fine," he told me. "Besides, we're running out of time, we can't dawdle!"

"I'll be quick, I promise." I sat Paul down on a nearby rock before he could protest. He only sighed as I pulled out an extra bandage from my bag and began to tend to his injury once more. He scanned the island, spotting where we needed to go: a faint dirt trail leading towards the opening of the forest, just like Newmoon Island... No wonder we mixed up both islands, they were mirrored in location and appearance... Hopefully, Cresselia was here, and, with the right words, she would gift us a Lunar Wing. I looked to Paul, who only kept his gaze on the trail, almost eager to run through and find Cresselia, however mixed in with his eagerness and confident was a hint of doubt... I gave him a small smile

"Hey," I started, grabbing his attention. "I'm sure Cresselia is here. I'm sure we can get the Lunar Wing." Paul only gave me the same doubtful look

"What if I don't convince her?" he asked me. "I have to prove to her how much I care for Reggie... What if she doesn't think I do? What do we do then? We can't return empty-handed, we need the cure, and Reggie's running out of time!" His doubtful look had washed over to a panicked one, his anxiety rising within him. I finished bandaging his arm and carefully placed my hand on his shoulder

"You've come this far just for your brother," I told him. "I know you can convince her. Cresselia will be able to see how much he means to you, I know she will. You just have to pour your heart into what you say about him, how much he means to you, how much you love him; you love your brother, and if I can see that, then Cresselia will be able to as well" Paul looked down for a moment, taking in what I had told him. After a few moments of silence, he looked up at me and smiled

"... You're right," he told me. "I can convince her. I've come all this way to save him, I ain't turning back now." I beamed

"That's the spirit!" I said with a grin. Paul smiled back as I offered my hand to him, helping him up. I pulled out Lapras' poke-ball and re-called him for the time being, before Paul and I looked to the entrance of the forest. The wind sang a calm tune as the branches rustled ever so slightly, petals of nearby flowers dancing in the breeze, the peeking sunlight of dawn tinting the island with a glowing, almost magical colour of orange. It was a sight to behold... It felt much more peaceful and welcoming here than it did on Newmoon Island, yet despite the calming atmosphere, I felt pressured... We didn't have much time on our hands before Reggie would pass away, so we had to find Cresselia and obtain the Lunar Wing now. I glanced over to Paul, who had a shaky but determined look on his face

"Ready?" I asked him. He nodded

"Ready," he replied. I took a deep breath before I followed Paul into the forest. The forest was calm, yet eerily quiet as no Pokémon appeared to have nested in the trees or made their homes on the ground. The only sound was our footsteps and the light breeze, singing to us, welcoming us to the island. The trees swayed to the sweet song ever so slightly, the rising sun glinting through the branches, shining down upon the road, guiding us to the queen of the island, Cresselia. I smiled at the tranquillity and was tempted to slow down, wanting to take the scenery in, dance with the trees, sing the wind's oh so calming lullaby, even lie at the roots of a tree and daydream, but I knew I couldn't do that, at least not now; Paul and I had to obtain the Lunar wing for Reggie. I kept my gaze on the road, though it soon shifted over to Paul, who kept his determination steady, yet his doubt was beginning to arise once more... This was it. We had one chance of this. If Paul couldn't convince Cresselia, Reggie would perish... That must've been weighing on him the moment we found out how to obtain the wing. I had confidence that he would be able to convince her with ease, but seeing the doubt in his eyes... It made me nervous. I knew he was anxious about this, but if he let that get to him, he may indeed fail...

No, he could do this! No... He can do this! I know he can! Just from the handful of stories he has spoken of Reggie, even before I knew he was his brother, it really sounded like they were close, and that Paul looked up to him, admired him, and of course, loved him. They were brothers! No sibling bond could ever be broken, and theirs was stronger than any bond I've seen before, even between trainer and Pokémon. Paul may be doubting himself now, but I knew he could do this. He's come this far for Reggie, and he's not the type to quit; I know he would push on until the very end, whether bitter or sweet itself

"We're here," I looked up and gasped at the sight I saw: a lake stood in the middle, shaped like a crescent moon as flowers of calming pastel shades of colours all glowed around the lake itself, sparkling with dew. They swayed slightly, loose petals fluttering in the wind, almost dancing to its continuous, calming song. Sunlight peered through the treetops, lighting up the lake, giving off a beautiful, twilight glow. It was absolutely stunning... Paul and I walked up to the middle of the crescent, scanning the area

"She isn't here," Paul said. "Shouldn't she be here?"

"Maybe we have to summon her?" I suggested. "Paul, you should try asking her now. Try telling her what happened, and she might appear." Paul nodded. He kneeled down on the ground, putting his hands together as he lowered his head. I only watched him, hoping this would work

"Cresselia, the deity of dreams, I plead for your assistance," he began. "My older brother, Reggie, has fallen victim to Darkrai's nightmares and is in a deep sleep. I pray to you that you can grace us with a Lunar Wing to save my dear brother from the grips of the nightmares he has fallen into..."

... Nothing happened. The wind continued its lullaby as if nothing had occurred, the land dancing to its song. I bit my lip

"Try telling her now," I told him. Paul looked back to me, a worried and nerve-wrecking look plastered on his face. He gave me a shaky nod before he started his plead once more

"Cresselia, please heed my call! My brother has delved deep into Darkrai's nightmare and may never return..." he paused for a moment. "My brother and I are close..." he paused once more... "I... We..." Paul grumbled in frustration. "No, I mean..." he let out a yell of frustration. "I don't know how to say it!" he exclaimed. "I... I don't know how to say it..." he repeated sadly. This was what he had been dreading: putting his thoughts and feelings for his brother into words. I know he loved his brother a lot, but outright saying it was a challenge for all, but the pressure put on him in this very moment had made him cave. He was completely speechless... He lowered his head, unable to speak a word. Concerned, I kneeled by his side and, without thinking, grabbed his hand and squeezed it softly to comfort him. He looked at me, sadness and confusion swirling within him

"Dinara, I don't think I can do this..." he admitted to me. "I have no idea how to say it all... It... It's so hard!" I squeezed his hand tighter

"It's OK-"

"It's not OK!" he snapped at me. "My brother's life is on the line here!"

"Paul, calm down," I told him sternly. "Take a deep breath and re-collect yourself, panicking won't do you any good." Paul's breathing was rapid, however he took a deep breath and exhaled, calming himself down, before he looked at me. I smiled. "Tell Cresselia what you told me," I said to him

"But I don't trust her..." he replied. I smiled

"Then pretend you're telling me what happened," I suggested. "I will listen like always, and Cresselia will be as well" I gave Paul a warming smile. "I know you can do this, I believe in you." Paul looked at me for a moment, before he nodded and smiled. He turned back to the lake, still holding my hand, and closed his eyes, lowering his head. He was completely silent, choosing his words carefully. Finally, he collected the right ones:

"Cresselia, deity of dreams, please listen to my story, for my love for my brother has come a long way: our parents left us, they left me with him. I cried for my parents, but they never returned. The one who answered my sobs, who comforted me and took me in was my brother. He looked after me like any guardian would, but loved me like any sibling would; he always put me before himself, making sure I grew up to be the best I could be, sacrificing his own dreams to let me chase my own. Even today, he is always supporting me around every corner, whether providing me with my Pokémon or the moral support he always supplies. I am eternally grateful for my brother. Without him, I wouldn't be where I am today: on a journey, travelling the vast world of Pokémon, becoming the best trainer I can possibly be, not just for me, but for my brother as well. I love my brother so much. I really, truly do, and after all he has sacrificed for me, he deserves much more than he has earned. He doesn't deserve the pain Darkrai has inflicted on him whatsoever, he deserves to live! So please, Cresselia, bless us with a Lunar Wing to save him, to save the one I love with all my heart. I love my brother so much. Please, don't let him perish... Please don't let him die..."

...

The land went silent. The wind stopped its song, the flowers halted their dance, and the sunlight began to dim. I shifted closer to Paul, fearing for what would occur next. His words touched my heart, making me tear up during his plead. He poured his whole heart into what he had said to Cresselia. Surely, she was bound to appear soon. Paul and I only kept quiet, our gaze fixated on the lake, awaiting the Lunar Pokémon's appearance. I felt Paul squeeze my hand tightly, which I returned. We were nervous, anticipating what would occur, but we were in this together. He was by my side, and I was by his. No matter what happened, we were in this together, as friends

Suddenly, all light in the forest disappeared, turning the forest into a pitch black void of darkness. I screamed and clung to Paul's good arm, fearing Darkrai had returned. I heard Paul grab one of his Poke-Balls, ready for battle in case Darkrai had found us. We couldn't see a thing... We were completely silent, waiting in the darkness, listening for the potential threat out there. All I could hear was our heavy breathing as we darted our heads around, hoping to catch a glimpse of what casted this blanket of darkness over the pure island we tread foot on...

Then... The lake began to glow. It sparkled brightly, emitting a power like no other, before a flash of light blinded Paul and I. We squinted our eyes, before the light faded. Once it did, we gasped. There she was:

Cresselia, the deity of dreams

We were in complete awe as Cresselia approached us. She looked down upon us, moving her gaze to Paul as she emitted a small glow from her body. She closed her eyes as a glowing ball appeared before her. It disappeared, re-forming into what we had been searching for: a Lunar wing. Cresselia opened her eyes and nudged the wing towards Paul, urging him to take it. He slowly reached out for it and grabbed it, feeling its silky, smooth texture. He stared at it in awe, before he looked up at Cresselia, a sad yet thankful smile plastered on his face. He held the wing close to his chest and bowed deeply to Cresselia

"Thank you so much," he said to her. Cresselia only smiled, as if she was saying 'you're welcome'. She looked at us both before she closed her eyes once more. At that moment, I felt myself being lifted into the air... I looked over to Paul and noticed we were being levitated by Cresselia. Suddenly, I felt a strong burst of energy surge through me, but it disappeared as quickly as it came. I opened my eyes slowly, adjusting to the sudden change of power before I gasped as the familiar sight of a large barren grassland, trees dotted along the dirt path running up to a small two-storey house finally dawned on me; Cresselia had teleported us

We were home
