I woke up to my phone going off. I groaned and grabbed my phone. I unlocked it and looked at the screen.

I had like five text messages from Ruby.

Ruby:
Hey

Ruby:
Wake up

Ruby:
Lyric plz wake up

Ruby:
Lyricccccc

Ruby:
Hey I'm literally outside your house I wanna take you out for breakfast.

I smiled at the last text.

Lyric:
Hey sorry I just woke up, let me get dressed and I'll be right out.

Ruby:
Kay hurry up😤

I chuckled and got out of bed.

I quickly got dressed and jogged to the front door. I grabbed my keys off of the small table next to the door.

I locked it behind my and got into Ruby's 2013 black Chevy Malibu.

"Nice car." I said as I closed the door.

Runs smiled at me, slashing those perfect teeth. "Thanks." She said as she started her car.

The engine roared to life as we took off. "So where are we going?" I asked. Ruby glanced at me.

"It's a surprise." She said, her accent very obvious.

I smiled and shook my head slightly.

"This better be worth it." I said jokingly. "I promise it will be." Ruby replied.

We turned on the radio as Ruby drove, rock music coming through the speakers.

My favorite song eventually came on, Gives You Hell by All American Rejects.

Ruby and I were belting out lyrics the whole car ride, laughing our asses off all the while.

We finally pulled into a cute looking diner. Ruby turned the music down before shutting the car off. "You ready?" Ruby asked as she turned to me.

I nodded. "Let's go." I said as I opened my door.

Ruby got out after me and lead the way into the diner.

She opened the door and walked straight to a booth in the back. I followed her and sat down across from her.

"Do you eat here a lot?" I ask. Ruby nodded. "When I can, they have really good bacon cheeseburgers." She said.

"Mmm you had me at bacon." I said with a small chuckle. Ruby smiled at me.

A waitress walked up to our table. "What can I get you guys?" She asked.

I thought for a second. "An omelette with some bell peppers and bacon bits and a ton of cheese in it." I said, the waitress wrote down my order and turned to Ruby.

"I think I'll have the same thing." She said nodding slightly as the words left her plump lips. The waitress wrote that down before walking away.

Ruby turned back to me, I did the same.

"Here's something i haven't asked you." I said. Ruby nodded her head slightly as if telling me to continue.

"How old are you?" I asked.

Ruby smirked slightly. "How old do you think I am?" She asked.

I looked at jer thinking for a moment. "I'mma gonna say mid twenties to early thirties." I said.

Ruby nodded. "I'mma gonna take that as a compliment. Im 32." She said.

I nodded my head. "I'm 27." I told her. Ruby looked slightly shocked. "Seriously?" She asked.

I nodded. "I know I'm an old woman." I joked. Ruby shook her head slightly.

"You look like your 20." She said, causing a pink tint to appear on my cheeks. "Well thank you." I mumbled.

Ruby smirked when she noticed the blush.

"So do you have a job in mind?" She asked.

"Ya, the coffee shop we went to had a help wanted sign." I told her. "I could drive you there after we're don't eating." Ruby offered. I smiled slightly.

"You don't have too, Ruby." I said looking down at my hands.

"Well I want to." Ruby said as the waitress walked up with our food. She set the plates down and looked at us.

"Would you guys like anything to drink?" She asked. "Um coffee for me." I said. "Same for me." Ruby said. The waitress nodded and walked off.

"I dug right into my omlette and let out a moan of satisfaction.

Ruby chuckled as she dug into her's.

"It is really good." She said around a mouth full of food. I glared at her playfully and kicked her under the table.

"Don't talk with your mouth full." I said, my own mouth full of food. Ruby started laughing and slapped a hand over her mouth.

Once she contained herself and swallowed her food she looked at me.

"Your gonna fucking kill me Lyric." She said still chuckling.

I rolled my eyes and swallowed my food. "That's the plan." I joked. Ruby pretend to be hurt as she looked at me.

I chuckled and took another bite of food.

Ruby just shook her head at me and continued eating.

We we're outside the coffee shop. I took a deep breath and looked at Ruby.

"Do I look okay?" I asked her. "Yes Lyric, you look great." Ruby said, putting a hand on my knee, squeezing it comfortingly.

I blushed slightly and smiled at her. "Thanks, Ruby." I said before opening the door.

"I'll drive you home." She called after me as I walked to the door. "Good luck!" She added just before the door closed.

I walked up to the counter and a worker walked up to me.

"How can I help you?" She asked me. I gave her a small smile. "Um I saw your help wanted sign, and I was wondering if I could apply?" I asked.

She looked so relieved. "Oh thanks god, finally." She said more to herself.

"Well my name is Emma I'm the manager, do you wanna go in for an interview right now?" She asked. I smiled and nodded. "That would be great." I said nodding my head.

Emma smiled and motioned for me to follow her. She lead me in to the break room

I sat down at a table and Emma sat down opposite of me.

She crossed her arms on the table and looked at me. "I don't recall ever seeing you before now." She said.

"Ya I just moved in this week." I explained. Emma nodded. "And I'm guessing that's why you need the job?" She said.

"Ya." I said smiling slightly.

"So, can you make anything on our menu?" She asked. "I can make sandwiches and normal coffee, but someone might have to help me with the other stuff at first." I told her honestly.

Emma nodded. "That'll be okay, you haven't been arrested or something have you?" She asked. I chuckled and shook my head. "No never." I said.

Emma smiled. "Okay then, you got the job." She said.

My face lit up. "Seriously!?" I asked excitedly. Emma nodded. "Yep, you can start tomorrow. Your hours will be from 7am to 4pm." She said.

I stood up and kept thanking her as I walked to the door.

I ran to Ruby's car. She rolled the window down before I could get in.

"Well?" She asked.

"I got it!" I said as I got in.

Ruby slapped me on the back when I sat down. "Good job girl." She said as she started the engine.

This week was going great. And so far, so was everything in this town.

This was for sure the right decision.
