Five
"SEE! I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT!"
Jeongguk shouted in full excitement, putting his hands on top of the big platform once they finally -unfortunately- reached the very, very top of the abandoned mortifying tower.
He put his weight on his arms, jumping up and turning around midway, so he was sat on the edge. He shifted backwards, sticking out his hand for Taehyung to grab.
Shaking like a leaf, he let himself tupple over, small rigged breaths of air escaping his body.
They made it.
They actually did it.
Opening his eyes after realising he had them pressed shut, he wished he hadn't.
The sight made him feel like a bucket of icy water was emptied on top of him, his blood running freezing cold.
"Oh, god-" was all that came out of his mouth. No way in hell was he going to stand up like Jeongguk did.
"The sight is absolutely mesmerising! Look at that!" He chimed happily.
Taehyung was reconsidering his life decisions. Why did he agree to this again?
His eyes fell on the rope that connected them both. Eyes widening at seeing the safety clip dangling loosely around Jeongguk's hip, he frantically looked around. There wasn't a point where they could attach themselves to, meaning they were now doomed if something happened. They'd free fall down, headed to their deaths.
Once he dared to look down, he saw that the earth actually looked curved at the horizon. Of course he wouldn't be able to see it if he were to be standing on solid, safe ground, but due to the fact that they were now six hundred metres up in the air -not even safely secured- they could. It was a thrilling experience, in both a positive and negative sentence.
The view was indeed mesmerising just like Jeongguk said, his eyes widened in astonishment.
"Woah.." The ravenette looked back at him, smiling.
"You did it, Tae! You conquered the fear!"
Taehyung raised an eyebrow,
"I feel like shitting my pants and throwing up at the same time. If I keep shaking like this I'm afraid the entire tower is going to collapse. And you say I conquered my fear? Man, I feel like I'm dreaming, but not a good kind. It's not even a nightmare, it feels surreal. As if I'm not actually here. But the unwelcoming wind and my heartbeat tell me otherwise-"
The sound of laughter stopped him from adding anything else.
"I'm so proud of you, Tae. Really. You did it. Perhaps it doesn't feel like it, but you managed to climb all the way to this point."
Taehyung's heart did a small flip at those words, his lips tugging up in a smile.
"I did it." He whispered, hugging the pole in the middle of the platform to stabilise himself whilst standing up slowly.
"Here, can you take a few pictures?" Jeongguk handed him his phone. Nodding, he took a hold of it and chuckled at Jeongguk who was being a dork, pulling wierd faces.
He then switched the camera, pointing it at himself and turning a bit -but still holding on the the pole- so they could make some selfies.
Jeongguk walked up behind him, both males smiling brightly. The background in the photos was amazing, surely Taehyung would make this his desktop background later.
"This trip genuinely was a great idea." The ravenette said, sitting down and opening his bag.
He pulled out the water bottle and a cereal bar, handing them to Taehyung who gladly took the items.
"It's cold up here.." Taehyung said through clattering teeth.
"Here, you can have my jacket." Before he could even decline that offer, he felt more warmth surrounding him, it already being placed around him.
"Won't you get cold like that?"
Jeongguk shrugged. "Once I do, I'll take it back, alright?"
Taehyung nodded, pulling his knees up to his chest. He watched Jeongguk walk around the platform, looking around.
The view was stunning, but in all honesty Taehyung found his best friend more interesting.
The way his raven coloured locks danced in the wind as if they found themselves in some movie, his sparkling eyes every now and then looking back at him with a huge smile adoring his face.
The sight made the brunette feel warmer than the jackets ever could.
He was more glad than ever, thinking that Jeongguk forgot about what had happened last night. It wasn't awkward anymore and they genuinely were having a good time.
They sat next to each other, chatting away, bringing up old memories. Cracking a few jokes here and there, or sitting in silence for a few minutes to appreciate where they sat. Or, in Taehyung's case, appreciating he didn't die yet.
"How long are you planning on sitting here? I mean, it'll take us two hours to climb back down. I doubt you want to do that in the middle of the night?" Taehyung wondered, trying to keep in a sneeze.
Jeongguk hummed, "Yeah, we'll go back within a few minutes. Let's just sit here for a little longer, I want this to be something I'll remember till the day I expire."
Snorting at that, Taehyung shook his head. "Why so serious all of a sudden?"
The ravenette shrugged. "This isn't something you do on a daily basis. Plus, I'm sitting here with you. And the fact that you trusted me enough to help you beat your fear, is also very memorable. I'm enjoying this experience to the fullest."
Taehyung didn't respond to that. The smile that was plastered on his lips couldn't be wiped off, not even when the wind picked up and indirectly told them it was time to leave.
"Here, take your jacket back. It's freezing up here and I don't want you to get sick." Taehyung grabbed it and placed it around Jeongguk's shoulders, humming in satisfaction as he saw the other sink into the warmth it provided.
"You were cold the entire, weren't you? You said you would've taken it back yourself by then!" Taehyung tsk'ed, glaring disapprovingly at the male next to him.
"Sorry, I just find your well-being more important than my own. Seeing you warm and comfortable, is good enough for me. Makes me forget the fact that I was shivering the entire time." A wink was added at the end of it.
A red tint finding its way back onto his face, Taehyung looked away, muttering something.
"Alrighty, let's get ready to head back down." The ravenette said, standing up.
"Yeah.." Taehyung answered, gulping.
"Let's get down."
