Part 11- Sports Day

Probably a bit of a shorter one. I just hate bugs and want to write about it lmao.

Summer was creeping near. And Yoongi hated it. He always hated summer, for many many reasons, but at the core of it, summer gave him many more sensory overloads. If it wasn't the sticky feeling of his own sweat in the heat, it was bugs. Bugs everywhere.

Yoongi hated bugs. Especially ones that fly. He noticed they always seemed to have no sense of direction or spatial awareness, since they'd fly around in circles, buzzing around until they found themselves somewhere on Yoongi. Which would then lead to a harsh slap as Yoongi is set off into a frenzy of flapping and sensory overload. He hates it.

Still, there wasn't much else he could do about it. They had a screen on his windows that he could keep closed to keep bugs out, but they'd still find their way in. He couldn't spend all summer inside, so they'd find their way too him as soon as he got outside. And he didn't like it.

And of course, the worst day of the year was soon approaching......... sports day.

Last year he lost everything he competed in, and everyone gave him dirty looks and whispered to each other. He had to spend the whole day in shorts, which he hates, sat in the beating sun, which he hates, being forced to do sports, which he hates. It was a horrible day.

His mother slopped sunscreen over any exposed skin, and yoongi cringed the whole time. It was supposed to be a non-greasy formula, but it still left yoongis skin feeling odd, not sticky, not necessarily greasy, just odd.

He made a face of distaste, waddling awkwardly out the door. His mother sighed.

"I know you don't like it yoongi but can you please try and walk normally? I'm sorry but i won't let you go out without sunscreen. I don't want you damaging your skin." She nags, a typical mother.

He lowers himself into the car, cringing at the feeling of his bare legs on the hot car seat.

"Are you excited for sports day?" His mother asks, trying to spark up a conversation and prompt yoongi to look a little more joyful. It didn't work.

"Not at all." Yoongi responded bluntly. He wanted to fold his arms to express his hatred even more, but his arms felt odd, and he did want them touching anything.

"w-well, i hope you can at least have some fun today, thats what it's all about afterall." She says, trying her best. But nothing could convince yoongi that this was a day to be enjoyed. It was torture day.

"Did you sign up for any races?" She asks, still hopeful.

"Nope. But i have to do the one for the special kids." Yoongi replied, clearly salty.

"What? They have that? why do you have to do it?" She responds, a little worried that yoongi is picking up the "special" language.

"i don't know. Theres only a few of us in the school. I guess they thought it would be fairer to put us in our own race seperate from everyone else. Its not though." Yoongi says, rocking as he watches the trees and houses zoom past out the window. His mother sighs, giving up. Its no secret that yoongi hates sport, and hot days.

They arrive at school, and yoongi stays in the car with a sigh.

"Come on yoongles. You gotta go, im afraid. I'll see you later ok?" Yoongi huffs, getting out of the car, not even saying a goodbye.

-----------------

Yoongi sat under the canopy, picking at the grass by his feet. One of the learning support teachers came over, and tapped him on the shoulder, which made him flinched. He hated when people did that.

"your race is coming up next yoongi! Come on, lets go to the start line, ok?"

It was no secret he didn't want to do it, but still, he felt he had to oblige, so he trudged behind her to the start line. The announcer calls out over the megaphone.

"and next up, our special education kids, running 100m sprint! give them all a loud encouraging cheer everyone!"

Yoongi winced at the loud cheering, that was very much not encouraging. He stood awkwardly at the startline, looking at the crowd of kids. Some of them pointed and laughed. He narrowed his eyes at them.

"on your marks....... get set....."

The gun shoots, and yoongi flinches, to see the other kids were off running. He quickly takes off, trying to catch them up, but of course, he's not very athletic. Not that the other kids were much more athletic than him.

Despite being the shortest sprint length, it felt like it lasted forever. Yoongi panted, feeling his skin getting sticky as the sun beats down on him. He wishes he could just tap out, but he doesn't want to go humiliating himself.

Then, it quickly all went wrong. In the blink of an eye. quite literally.

A bug flew straight into yoongis face. Not just his face. His eye. He shrieked, collapsing to the floor, gripping at his eye. He screamed in terror knowing a bug just flew into his eye. Not only did it hurt, but it was a bug. His worst nightmare.

He screamed bloody murder halfway down the track, and the crowd all went silent, save for a few gasps, as they all watched with concern. With the amount of screaming they'd expect yoongi to be on the ground with a broken leg with a bone sticking out, but there was no blood to be seen, and so everyone was confused.

One of the teachers carefully approached him, pulling him off the track, and back under the gazebo.

"What happened yoongi? What happened to your eye?" They all surround him, pelting him with questions, but he just continues to scream and cry. He didn't dare move his hand away from his eye, too scared for what might come of it. Visions of him moving his hand away to thousands of bugs crawling over his face and flying away, swam around in his head, making him scream even more. He was making a scene. The other kids were whispering to each other, gossiping about what could have possibly happened.

The school nurse is quick to run to the scene. She remembers yoongi from those times he ended up in her office. She knows she has to approach this case a little different.

"Yoongi, its ok, can you take some deep breaths for me? You're ok."

Yoongi hears the familiar voice of the nurse, remembering how nice she has always been to him, and he stops screaming, calming into slow sobs.

"That's it, why don't you come with me to my office and i'll help you out there, away from everyone else. Is that ok?"

Yoongi nodded, standing up, but still keeping a firm hand over his eye, not daring to peel it away. The nurse gently takes his hand to guide him back to her office.

Once they're there, she sits him down, and crouches in front of him.

"Can you tell me what happened?" She asked, but yoongi was too busy sobbing, and didn't have his tablet. He couldn't do sign language since he only had one hand free, and the nurse likely wouldn't understand anyway.

"ok, can you move your hand so i can look?" Yoongi sobbed a little again, but he knew the longer he delays it, the worse it'll be. He moves his hand away slowly, keeping his eye firmly scrunched shut. The nurse can see the mangled remains of a bug resting on his eye, but it doesn't look like its gone in it. She gets a tissue, and gently wipes it away.

"There, its gone. You can open your eye now. I promise. I doubt theres anything in there." She comforts with a smile, and yoongi slowly opens his eye, blinking rapidly until he realises she's right, theres nothing there.

"Are you ok now? did you just get a little scared by the bug?" He nods.

"I don't like bugs. At all." He mumbles bluntly. The nurse hums in agreement.

"They're annoying, aren't they?" Yoongi nods. "Do you want to go back out? I shouldn't stay here too long in case they need me."

Yoongi would rather stay, but he knows he can't stay there alone, and he doesn't want to hold the nurse inside with him when she should be outside helping others, so he just nods, standing up.

As he sits under the gazebo again, he stares down at his legs. He starts to feel itchy at the mere concept of bugs. He sighs a deep sigh.

Sports day is the worst.

sorry for the abrupt ending i got bored lol
