Chapter 7
I look between Midoriya and Melissa, trying to find a resemblance. The only thing I found was that I call them both of the names that start with ‘M’. Just then, All Might and another man came out of his office, laughing with big smiles on their faces, almost like how you would envision two people in love would look like having a conversation.
“Ah, Shoto! I would like you to meet David Shield, head of any and all technological advancements. Melissa also works with her father, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask either of them.” All Might gives me a thumbs up and a smile. Melissa hugged Mr. Shield as Midoriya and All Might smiled at each other. It’s only me who seems off though.
Wait, All Might said he was Midoriya’s father, but they look nothing alike, and then Melissa also says that he’s her father, but then All Might also says Mr. Shield is her father. What's going on?
Melissa snapped her fingers, stripping me out of my trance of endless thoughts. “Hey, what are you thinking so hard about?” I clear my throat before answering the 4 pairs of eyes in front of me. “Well um, you said All Might was your father, and then All Might says Mr. Shield is your father. That doesn’t add up correctly. And Midoriya, you look nothing like All Might, so how would he be your father?”
The 4 looked at each other, then me, then each other, then me, then each other, and then started to snicker profusely. My confused face doesn’t falter as Midoriya stops laughing, hopefully to clear things up for me. The other 3 stop their giggles. “Todoroki, have you ever heard of adoption?” I shake my head no. Melissa and All Might start to titter, their half-suppressed laughs fail to amuse me in any sort of way. “Well adoption is when someone has no biological parents to care for them, so someone else takes them in. I’m kinda adopted by All Might and David. Melissa is David’s biological daughter.” I nod understanding how the green-haired kid and the skinny blonde old man were somewhat related. But, how are Mr. Shield and All Might taking care of both these two together? I voice my confusion and Melissa steps out of the sitting area to laugh.
Mr. Shield clears his throat and motions Melissa to stop. “Being in that large castle really makes you miss out on some things huh?” He rubs the back of his neck. I mutter not to remind me that I’ve missed out on life as he continues. “Toshinori and I are married.” Everyone was looking at me like I was crazy as I blink vigorously after this brave confession.
“Oh, okay.” That’s all I said as Mr. Shield nods and he and All Might walk outside through the door. Melissa smiles as she walks away wherever, leaving me once again with Midoriya. “Why don’t we go to the library? We could find some books on hunters and magic!” He asks with a warm smile as I nod, still uncomfortable from the conversation before. I take my bag as Midoriya leads me up the stairway. We arrived at a large library at the right far end of UA. The array of books were carried on long, high classic cherry-colored bookshelves, almost all stretching from wall to wall. There were three tables in this room, one long one in the back, and then two short ones in the front on opposite walls. Each had at least two chairs with an ugly design of what looked like Evergreen trees painted on the seats. Midoriya heads for the long one in the back as he motions with his hand to go to a specific aisle. The shelves were numbered, and I went to shelf number 7. The books were all different dark colors of a respected one, as the first book on the shelf; Braiding Long and Short Hair for Beginners which was instead of a bright red, it was darker like dried blood. Midoriya comes over to me humming a strange tune I feel nostalgic about but I don’t know why.
“I thought we were here for magic and hunter books.” He laughs as I blush. He picks up the dark red book as he skims down the whole shelf, top, and bottom, picking up at least 5 more books. He took my hand, which made me blush once again and took me to the table. As we sit down, Midoriya slides a dark yellow book over to me, turning to page one without looking.

Hunters have been around for many years, way before the monarchy was made in their designated spots. Rebel hunters, who created havoc throughout the world, dominated every inch of it. Only when the world seemed out of place was when the first Vigilante hunters came to play. Yoichi Shigaraki is credited with this title, with many others.
Many suspicions spread about why these strong heroes with powers they like to call ‘quirks’ left out of sight, but lots of signs show that they might still be hiding in the shadows.
“So you would call what Uraraka does, a quirk?” I ask after finishing the one and a half paragraphs. Midoriya sits his journal down and strokes his chin for a few seconds. “Technically yes, but her magic took years to master since she wasn’t really born with it. What you would call her real quirk is Float” I nod and go back to my book.
Quirks come from within-
Wait what did he say? “What do you mean ‘born with it?” Midoriya realizes what he said, eyeing the ground.
“Well, um. Almost everyone is born with a quirk, a superpower that could advance life as a whole, but was outlawed here in Musutafu.” My right eyebrow goes up, voicing my confusion. “Almost everyone?”
The other boy nods his head silently, turning his face away from me. “Yeah, Iida has one. All Might had one, I used to not have one.” He faces me with his hand resting on his chin. “It’s another long story and I usually don’t like talking about it all that much, sorry.”
“That’s fine, but could you tell me that other long story from the last chapter?”
Midoriya gives a half-smile as we look into each other’s eyes once again, this time nobody interrupts us as he says, “Sure, but next chapter.”
