Chapter seven: The Shattered Mask

Good morning/midday/afternoon/evening/night everyone! How's your day going so far? I hope good! You know who beautiful, pretty and precious is? Read the first word of the previous sentence. So, I was watching a movie called Sex & Death 101 with a friend today, and had absolutely no idea Simon Baker was playing in the movie! It was pretty weird to watch him play hide-the-pickle with various women. Damnit Simon! Well I'll start to write this chapter then, as this conversation is getting a little out of hand. We're not actually having a conversation, but I like to pretend we have one. Enjoy reading!

Jane had enough of this. He wanted to get out. He wanted to get this over with. And before he even realized it, he had told the truth about his feelings for once. "You pierced my soul, you made me skeptical about people and love. And I hate you. I fucking hate you for that. You turned me into this broken mess. You fucked up my confidence and it's my fault my family is dead!"

Jane's pupils widened as he saw Lisbon standing behind Red John. She was completely silent. Lisbon couldn't believe her ears. He'd finally admitted he was broken. The words echoed through her head. Red John had broken Patrick Jane.

Jane stared ashamed at Lisbon who was standing a couple of meters away from Red John. Her slightly shaking hands were covering her mouth, shocked by the words Jane had said a moment ago. She didn't knew he was this sad, feeling this guilty. She hated to see him in so much pain. Why hadn't she noticed before?  Jane's head was hanging down, his chin softly resting on his chest. His eyes were focused on Red John's hands. Those guilty, filthy hands which had killed his precious wife and daughter. He felt a stabbing pain going through his convulsive heart as he imagined Angela and Charlotte brutally getting murdered. He didn't even had the chance to say goodbye to them.. Jane thought about the chances of getting out of here with Lisbon. Would they still be the same after this event? Lisbon was actually the only one he'd truthfully trusted. Yet, Red John would probably kill her too. Jane swallowed, his facial expression changing out of disgust. He was tasting a disgusting mix of spit and blood wherefore he coughed and spit on the concrete ground. He calculated the chances of Lisbon winning the fight against Red John. He had a knife, which Lisbon hadn't. The only things she could use as self-defense were her bare hands and maybe her.. legs? He knew Lisbon could punch pretty hard, he had experienced it.

Red John noticed Jane's off look and turned around, looking at Lisbon who had unexpectedly jumped at him. She punched him in the face and was beating him repeatedly as they fell on the ground. She punched, scratched, bit, kicked and head-butted. Red John lost the grip of his with Jane's blood stained knife as he didn't expect the woman who was seriously trying to kill him right now. The two struggled and rolled over the ground. Red John was on top of Lisbon right now and wrapped his hands around her neck, trying to strangle her just like he had done with Jane. Except for the fact that Red John's purpose wasn't to kill Jane immediately, he was almost choking Lisbon to death. And Jane wasn't able to do anything besides just watching.

Lisbon's eyes were focused on Jane as she was unflinchingly holding on to Red John's arms, trying to push him off. She couldn't kick him as it didn't seem to hurt him. So, she kicked the knife towards Jane, simultaneously as Red John was still trying to strangle her. She wouldn't last long, he knew that for sure. Jane tried to pick up the knife with his feet, which were free. Trying to keep balance, he clinched the knife between his feet, bringing it carefully up to his hands. He wasn't agile and it hurt a lot to bring the knife up to his hands. His head was throbbing and his whole body was aching, but he tried to bite through the pain. He needed to do this, for Lisbon. The knife almost fell, but Jane got it eventually. As he rapidly tried to cut through the rope which was tightly tied around his wrists, he saw Lisbon finally kicking Red John off of her. She gasped for air as she crawled backwards, her mouth wide opened and she was breathing out loud. The lack of breath was keeping her incapacitated for a couple of seconds, but she couldn't rest because Red John was already trying to punch her again. She just crawled backwards as she looked at the broken mask of the serial killer. She still couldn't see his face, but admittedly could see his right eye which was bright blue. She startled as she felt the hard fist in her stomach and she whimpered out in pain while she was blinded with flashing colorful spots and craved darkness. She closed her eyes and just wanted to pass out. Pain would throb so violently around her skull that she wondered why it didn't just crack open. She was expecting to receive a hard punch, but was utterly surprised by the voice of a shouting Jane, who had pushed Red John away from her.

"Stay away from her!" He'd yelled. He stabbed the serial killer in stomach, but unfortunately only a stab-wound wouldn't kill Red John. He got up and punched Jane on his nose, which caused it to bleed heavily. He stepped back, holding his nose.  "Why always the nose?!" He mumbled. Lisbon's eyes opened and watched as the blonde man and hideous serial killer were facing eachother. Jane's furiously looking eyes were centralized on the tall man across from him.  Only one would make it out alive. But Jane wasn't really the fighting type and Lisbon was doubting if he was going to win this fight. This was going to be a fight of life and death.

[ At the office ]

Van Pelt was reading through the high pile of Red John files. The serial killer had given them one clue to find Lisbon. The clue was pretty much directed to Jane, but now Jane was gone she was the only one with Rigsby to find them. Cho was still in the hospital, lying in a coma, but the doctors would wake him up tomorrow because his condition was getting much better. Rigsby was recovering too so that he could help her to find out where Jane and Lisbon were taken to.

"You think Red John .. killed them?" Asked Rigsby, carefully sitting down across from Van Pelt who was unstoppably reading through the files. The table was covered with images of Red John's victims, draw smileys and clues he had left. She hesitated before answering but thought about what Jane would've said. "No. He would send us a kind of message before he would kill them. I guess he's holding Lisbon hostage since he wants to play with Jane's feelings and mind." She answered, taking a quick look at Rigsby. He was eating a sandwich. She was pretty hungry too actually, since she hadn't had a proper meal since she was out of the hospital. Van Pelt had been reading, interrogating people and researching houses, streets and parks in the last 2 days. She had passed all the streets and places that started with an F, but didn't find any clues. "We may don't need to search for places, but for the piano in Jane's house in Malibu?" Suggested Rigsby, taking a bite of his delicious sandwich. He knew it wasn't really the moment to eat and he should help Van Pelt. But he didn't care, a man's gotta eat. Besides, he wouldn't have the energy to solve cases if he didn't eat something. Food. It was his addiction, and probably his second love. Would he be cheating if he made out with this sandwich? Rigsby looked at the sandwich, frowning. No of course not. His interesting thoughts were interrupted by the voice of Van Pelt who was repeatedly calling his name. "Rigsby..? Wayne!" He startled and looked at her. "Uh sorry, I was distracted." He spoke, putting his sandwich on the table. "I was telling you, that it was a good idea to go to Jane's house and check out the piano. Do you think he still has it?" Rigsby got up and put his jacket on. "Don't know, maybe. Only one way to find out." Van Pelt nodded as she got up too. Rigsby planted a soft kiss on her cheek which made Van Pelt chuckle. "Sure you don't want to bring your love with you?" She pointed at the sandwich. "No, you're my everything. You know that right?" He said as they walked over to the elevator. The doors opened and they stepped in but Rigsby hesitated. "I forgot something. Wait for me in the car, ok?" He quickly ran over to the table Van Pelt and he were sitting at a moment ago. He grabbed his sandwich, holding it in front of him as if it was his newborn child. "I'll never forget you my love" He said as he ran back to the elevator while taking a bite of his precious sandwich.

[ At the same time..]

Lisbon was still sitting on the ground. She was trying to stay awake as the throbbing pain in her stomach and head were seriously getting out of hand. It was as if various little dwarfs were dismantling her brain. She couldn't move as the world was spinning around her. She wanted to help Jane. The two of them were staring at eachother. Jane's face was more serious than she had ever seen. He was still holding the knife, so he had a bigger chance of winning. "Let's be fair, put the knife away Patrick." Spoke Red John, pointing at the ground. "You didn't give my family a chance either. I'll kill you and I don't actually care how." Jane threw himself upon the killer and tried to stab him in his chest. Red John's reflexes were surprisingly fast and he grabbed Jane's arm before the knife had touched him. Jane punched him with his other hand. He had never punched anyone before, so he was incredibly surprised at the pain that blazed up his arm as his fist connected with his jaw. "Auch." Was all Red John could yell out in pain as he pushed Jane off of him and he kicked him against his knee. The consultant whimpered out in pain as he tried to get himself up. He threw his body weight behind the fist that edged closer to Jane's bruised face, it hit his jaw with such force so that blood pooled into his mouth. Pain erupted from the point of impact. Jane groaned and spit out some blood on the floor. He looked at Lisbon who was watching him. This was for her. He wasn't only fighting to get revenge for his family, but also to get Lisbon's attention.

"You're a nobody Patrick. Nobody likes you, everyone left you." Spoke Red John. His mask was almost broken. "You're wrong." Jane threw another punch at the serial killer's face, which he avoided easily. Red John pushed him on the ground. Jane reacted and kicked him with all his strength on the face. There was a blunt crack and the mask cracked. Pieces of the red, once terrified mask shattered on the ground. Jane gasped as he finally saw the face of Red John. Crimson leaked from both his nostrils and his nose was twisted right. "You?... But.." Stuttered Jane, his face covered with disbelief. Red John drew his fist back again and it ploughed into Jane's stomach which made him whimper out in pain. "I thought i'd learnt you manners." Spoke Red John. Lisbon's vision started to get more clear now and she looked at the two of them. Red John didn't actually look dangerous at all. He had blue eyes too, and light brown curly hair. He did look a little bit older and taller than Jane, but looked a lot like him though. Same nose, same eyes and the same evil grin. Her mouth dropped open as she realized something. Wait..This man..He was..

Ah cliffhanger! Well I guess i've given you a couple of hints already. Woops. Well tell me who you think Red John is in this story! Would love to hear it. Thanks again for reading, don't forget to leave a comment and to rate this story.
