Chapter nine: Bloodshot Blue Eyes

Hello! How are you doing today? I have a question. I read somewhere that you're able to add sound in a Wattpad story. I searched for tutorials but none of them work >:(. I would like to add some sound to my story, to make it more exciting. For example; Gunshots, maybe some voices of Lisbon or Jane, idk. Do you guys know how to add sound? Please tell me if you know! And thank you so much for reading this story :) I want to dedicate this chapter to thementalistgirl because you're just so nice to everyone :D

Lisbon nodded, still trying to catch her breath. "Van Pelt and Rigsby are here.. Alex is arrested and.." Jane frowned, noticing she was freaking out. Wanting to calm her down, he walked up to her slowly and pulled her closer to him, wrapping his arms around her. His embrace was warm, and his big, strong arms seemed very protective when wrapped around Lisbon's frail body. She buried his face into the crook of Jane's neck. Jane sighed, gently stroking her hair. He knew Red John would go after them again, but he didn't care right now. All he wanted was to be with Lisbon. He loved her. They were standing like that for a while, both never wanting this moment to end.

[ 2 Days later]

Lisbon sat quietly behind her familiar desk in the office. She was very delighted to be there again even though she had to fill in tons of paperwork and answer various questions about the experience with Red John. Jane's father Alex had been interrogated a couple of hours ago. Shivers ran down her spine as she thought of the creepy, yet sad man. The interrogating didn't go well.

[3 Hours earlier]

Lisbon sighed as she collected all her courage to go in the interrogation room. Normally, interrogating suspects wasn't such a big deal, but this was different. She was going to talk with Jane's father who brutally tortured his own son the other day. They held a grudge against each other which wasn't very odd. Her mind wandered off to the events that had happened 2 days ago. Jane and she were happily hugging after Rigsby and Van Pelt arrested Jane's father. She was a bit surprised at first when he wrapped his arms around her body, but melted promptly away in his arms. Lisbon stared into the distance of the warm desert and listened to Jane's accelerated breathing. They both looked up as they heard the sounds of sirens in the far distance. As the white with black police cars parked right next to the building, Lisbon and Jane pulled away from each other. Several FBI and CBI agents got out of their cars and rushed into the building. "I'm going to .. check on them" Spoke Lisbon and she also rushed into the building, leaving Jane standing alone in the overheating desert. He watched her running towards the once abandoned building which was now completely overloaded with people. His hands ran through his casual wavy and curly hair. His hair was a mess, he was a mess. He sat down on the rock again, feeling dizzy. It was as if he was sitting in a rollercoaster and like he needed to throw up any moment. Jane closed his eyes in confusion and tried to focus his mind. It didn't help so he opened them again, noticing everything was spinning around him. He felt his tingling arms and legs become numb. His vision started to blurry as his exhausted body fell down onto the ground.

"Van Pelt, could you drive Jane and me to the hospital? He needs care." Lisbon had ran over to her colleague and friend, asking for this favor. Van Pelt nodded as she pulled out her car keys out of her pocket. "Let's go. Where's Jane?" She asked, looking around. "He's still outside." The two agents walked outside, witnessing Jane's pale and shivering body lying on the ground. Lisbon immediately ran over to him, kneeling down. He had lost a lot of blood and had still fought with his father, to save her. He must've been exhausted. Tears started welling up in her eyes but she tried not to cry. "You're going to be okay." She whispered hardly hearable. "Van Pelt? Ambulance?!" Van Pelt nodded. "Already on their way. I'm going to get some agents. Keep him awake." Lisbon couldn't response since Van Pelt had already ran off to get help. "Lisbon..?" Jane's bloodshot eyes were focused on her. His shaking hand moved slowly over to her hand. She grasped it and squeezed softly. "Don't talk. Just try to think about.. beautiful things." She was used to comfort her little brothers and this was the tactic she'd always used when her brothers couldn't sleep. It worked most of the time. She didn't want Jane to fall asleep though, but he needed to calm down and try to not think about the pain he was feeling. "Beautiful..things.. Like..you?" He mumbled, slowly closing his weary eyes. Lisbon's cheeks changed from complexion to a light red/pink color. She tapped softly with her index finger against his cheek. He opened his eyes again and forced a weak smile. Lisbon sighed and chuckled as she stared into his eyes. "You're nearly dying and you're still trying to be charming."

The sound of the sirens of the ambulance wailed through the air. The sound started to get more louder and carved through Lisbon's ears as a cutting knife. Everything happened fast from that moment. The ambulance parked and four paramedics rushed over to them. They lifted Jane up onto the stretcher. When his body was channelled onto the stretcher, they dragged him into the ambulance along with Lisbon. They checked Lisbon for more injuries and treated her. They confirmed she had a brain concussion and several bruises around her neck and other body parts. There was a slight possibility her arm was broken, but they didn't think so since she could still use her arm. So the paramedics wanted to check more on her in the hospital anyway. The ride to the hospital was more terrifying than she'd expected. With every bump that the ambulance made, her anxiety peaked higher. Seeing Jane strapped in to the stretcher was an awful sight. She held his hand and squeezed softly in it. She would never let go of him again.

[ Present ]

Lisbon entered the interrogation room. "Morning mister Jane. Did you sleep well after torturing your son? " She said crankily seating herself into the chair opposite to Alex. He stayed silent. "Yes, no? Tell me!" She repeated sternly, looking into his drooping eyes. Alex shook his head and looked down at his shoes. "I never wanted this to happen.." He mumbled, scratching on his head, leaving his messy hair to stick out to different directions. Lisbon sighed, and looked into his eyes. She could always tell from a person's eyes what kind of character he had, or what he was feeling at the moment. Jane had learnt her that trick, late in the evening when they were improving their poker skills. She chuckled as her thoughts wandered off to that innermost moment.

"Jane, I know you're tricking me. There's no way you could've won 4 times in a row already. You're obviously cheating!"  Lisbon's green emerald eyes were focused on his naughty blue eyes. He smirked, holding a couple of cards between his index finger and thumb. "I assure you Lisbon. I'm definitely not." She rolled with her eyes and  desperately tried to take a glimpse of his cards. He noticed her looking at his cards and laid them down on the table. "Sneaky Lisbon. Never expected you'd be a cheater." He said, grabbing his cup of tea and slowly bringing it to his mouth, taking a sip. He then put it back onto the table and grinned. "Let me show you some tricks to hide your body language. I can tell you're desperately trying to read my cards, which means you have presumably the worst and useless cards ever."  He folded his arms and leaned with his elbows onto the table. She chuckled and laid her cards down onto the table. "How could you tell?" She asked, taking a bite of her blueberry muffin Jane had bought her this morning. She wasn't able to eat it all day, and to be honest. She really desired for the tasty muffin. "Your eyes. In stress and worry, they stop sparkling which is, fascinating to witness." He said, chuckling. "Eyes? Jane c'mon."  She said, not trying to but smiling, her cheeks slightly showing a color of red. "You should smile more often."  Lisbon's smile faded away and she tried to look serious at him. Jane leaned over, pushing his thumbs against her cheeks, forcing her to smile. Lisbon frowned and chuckled eventually, pushing him away. "So now i'm going to learn you how to tell how someone's feeling by the look of their eyes." He said, properly sitting down on his chair again. Lisbon let out an excitedly breath. This was going to be a long, yet funny night.

Jane's lessons from that night were starting to get useful right now. She stared into Alex's eyes and tried to read them. Alex's eyes were intense, and unlike the rest of him they weren't at all expressive, they were cold, like ice. Most blue eyes are so captivating you swear that you could just dive into them with the peak of awe nipping at your facial features. Just like Jane's. His eyes were the most captivating and attractive eyes she'd ever seen. As she peered into Alex Jane's frozen irises she could feel an electrical chill run down her spine through her body. He was still looking sad, yet angry. "What are you looking at?" He asked, noticing she was staring at him. Her piercing green eyes were focused on him as if she was trying to look through him. It was making him nervous. He tapped with his fingers against his leg. "So you say Red John sticked a letter to your wall which contained the information of the location of the building where we were held hostage and it also contained information of Jane.. Patrick's location?" She asked, sputtering as she first called Jane by his first name. She was used to the name Jane, but this man in front of her had unfortunately the same name as he. "Yes. There was a red smiley on it. And I did an anonymous DNA blood test and it was confirmed that it was my son's blood." He said as tears started to well up in his eyes. Then he anxiously looked down at the ground, just like he did before. "So this Jacob is your son too. The oldest one right?" She asked, already knowing the answer. Alex nodded. "Why do you hate your youngest son?" Alex looked up immediately as she asked the question. He groaned and sighed shortly after. "I don't." His facial expression was stubborn, without any emotion. "What happened in the past that'd made you guys being so hateful to each other?" She saw his eyes wandering off to the 'mirror' behind her. "Nothing." He said stubbornly, with a straight face, still not showing any emotion. Lisbon didn't expect him to tell her the whole story in one go since Jane wasn't really the talk-about-your-feelings-type either.

"Let me guess. He ran away." She stated. Alex scratched over the wound on his chin. Lisbon chuckled proudly as she looked at the wound Jane had caused the man to protect her, but she quickly showed a straight face again. "Yes. That son of a.. Hm. He ran away on his 16th birthday. Together with this girl called Angela. He took his money and his stuff with him. He probably ran away when it was night because when I woke up in the morning to call him to practice for our act, he didn't show up." Alex sighed between his sentences and continued his story. Lisbon nodded attentively and wrote some things down on her jotter. "I became broke after he ran away. Without him.. I wasn't able to make any money anymore. So I had to work in a supermarket a couple of miles away from the carnival. All that, because he'd left me! He left his own father alone!" The sadness and anger flowed through his veins and deadened his mind. He stood up and slammed his fist against the table. Lisbon startled. "Sir sit down." She said sternly but still careful. His face mottled crimson, his eyes popped, his tree trunk neck strained. His words were spat out with the ferocity and rapidity of machine gun fire. "Don't tell me what to do! I want my son Jacob back! And that stupid son of a .. Patrick is the cause of all this! No wonder that his wife and child were murdered. Because of him and his stupid selfish talkative character!" He was red in the face, face the color of an over-ripe tomato, red as a brick. His eyes were squinting meanly and it looked like they might pop out. He clenched his fists and slammed them down onto the table. Lisbon gasped and anger started to boil up in her system as she listened to the words Jane's father had just said. "Get me out of here right now" He shouted at her, spit flying at her face. She wiped it away from her face in disgust and got up. "Listen sir. Your son is possibly the nicest man i've ever met! He still loves you, you're his father. You should be proud of him. And if you won't be proud of him, sure as hell I will!" She spoke furiously, quickly walking out of the interrogation room. She slammed the door behind her and locked it. She wasn't able to talk to him normally. Maybe Jane would.

[ In the hospital, a few hours later]

"This blanket is too small. Look, I can see my feet"  Jane was reluctantly lying on his hospital bed. He had been there for 2 days now since he fainted in the desert. He had lost a lot of blood and he needed surgery because his stabwound started to bleed heavily again. Apart from the bruises, fever, wounds and his broken arm, he was completely fine. "Stop complaining." Another voice spoke. Cho's voice. Jane shared a room with the other CBI agent who was almost fully recovered now. He couldn't quite breathe normally yet, or run without getting out of breath in one second. But he was more alive and healthier than a week ago. "Can't believe you've been here for almost a week. Must've been awful." Murmured Jane, rolling over to his side. His head rested on the soft pillow, which was simply too soft according to him. "Free food. Soft bed. Nice nurses. I'm not complaining." Said Cho with a poker face. He sat up straight, grasping the lid of the cup of tea that was settled on his night table. Jane sighed, thinking about his father and his brother Jacob. A wave of jealousy and betrayal overflowed him as he thought about his childhood on the carnival. "Hey." He heard the soft voice of the woman he'd admired. He rolled over, turning his back to Cho and smiled as he saw the figure of Lisbon. Her hair was a bit messier than normal, which made Jane smile even brighter. "Hey" He whispered softly. She seated down onto the plastic chair next to his bed and chuckled. "How are you feeling?" She asked. "Never been better" He answered, coughing heavily. "You're sick aren't you?" The question made Jane frown. "Meh." He mumbled, shrugging. Lisbon rolled with her eyes and held her hand against his forehead. His skin felt warm, and sticky. "You've got a fever." Her hands slid slowly down to his  reddish cheeks, observing the warmth of it. He stared at her with his blue/green eyes full of innocence. "I'm going to get a nurse to measure your temperature." Jane shook his head and pointed at the clock that was hanging above the door. "Almost 12 pm, so what?" Questioned Lisbon, removing her hands from his sticky, feverish skin. "12 pm. That means lunch. Lunch means nurse. We should wait." He chuckled. She rolled with her eyes and agreed to wait for the nurse. "Okay"

A few moments later, a nurse entered the room without slowing her stride at all. One moment she was in the corridor, her eyes dead ahead and the next she was grabbing Jane's hand to take a pulse. In this exchange the nurse neither made eye contact or spoke. Jane observed her face and looked at Lisbon who could hardly stop herself from laughing. He didn't blame her. The nurse's face was like an overstored apple, round, full, yet crinkled worse than a brown paper bag after all the candy is gone. Her eyes were small, mean, bereft of any make-up and she smelt of detergent. She made a clicking noise with her tongue. Jane began to open his mouth to ask when lunch would come but before he could the nurse laid down an envelope on his lap and disappeared down the corridor as rapidly as she came. There was a sticker of a heart sticked to the envelope. Lisbon burst out into laughter as she looked at the confused and shocked expression on Jane's face. Jane looked at her, giving her a 'dare-to-say-anything- look.' Lisbon wanted to say something anyway, but Jane noticed that unfortunately. "Don't..say..a..thing." He said sternly. Lisbon chuckled and grasped the letter from his lap and opened it. "Lisbon.." Jane rolled with his eyes in embarrassment and bent over to try to snitch the envelope back. Lisbon stood up laughing and read the envelope. Her smile faded away immediately as she saw a red smiley drawn on the paper.

"Dear Patrick and Teresa.

I'm glad you escaped. Mr Jane wasn't really doing his job right, but don't worry. He'll pay eventually for his mistakes. I'm genuinely not so delighted you're taking part in this game Teresa, but Patrick was right. I'm using my accomplices, so he can do that too. I want you to do a thing for me. I accidently might have kidnapped your precious friend and colleague Grace. Want her back? Just..kill Alex Jane. Three days Patrick.

Red John."

Lisbon's pupils widened as she read the letter. Jane snitched it away from her and gasped as he saw the frightening smiley. Then, he read it open mouthed. His brain formulated no thoughts other than to register that he was shocked. He forgot how to breathe, unable to speak he closed his mouth, then looked at his toes before glancing back up to catch Lisbon's eye. Lisbon nodded understandingly as she saw the sad, defeated look in his eyes. His words were barely hearable, but broke her heart as she heard them. "I'll have to kill my father.."

Geez, i used a lot of time lapses in this chapter. I don't have anything to tell actually. Only that i've got an awesome Simon Baker live wallpaper on my phone. I'm literally slobbering every time I take a look at my background. Lol sorry, unnecessary information. :P Well thanks for reading and don't forget to rate this story and also don't forget to comment! Have a great day!
