Chapter eleven: Chaos

Anyone interested to write a Mentalist oneshot or fanfiction with me? Last week of vacation and i'm bored :3 The authors note is normally pretty long, but i don't have anything interesting to say today so i'll just write this chapter. Feel free to message me whenever you like. I'm mostly up for a conversation to just chat about random things. :D Enjoy reading!

There was a moment of silence and she wondered what was wrong. He didn't dare to look at her so his eyes were focused on the sheets wrapped around him. After a minute, he finally looked at her.

"How the heck did I end up in your bed."

[ 10 Am in the morning. Lisbon's apartment ]

"Well, you fell asleep and I didn't want you to lie uncomfortably on my couch so I went to my neighbor, asked him if he wanted to move you to my bed. He did and I slept on the couch." Spoke Lisbon, leasurely rolling over so that she was lying on her back. The story wasn't completely true though. She tried at first to wake him up but after he didn't respond, she'd gotten her neighbor Sam; who was a doctor; to check him out. He measured his temperature which was 103.5 at that moment. Lisbon knew this wasn't good, and wanted to bring him back to the hospital. Sam told her she didn't have too, he was only running a high fever and had probably passed out because of that. He just needed a lot of sleep. He also gave her instructions on what he could eat, drink and do since the health of his body wasn't really that good. After that, they'd had dragged Jane over to Lisbon's bedroom and laid him on the two person bed. After she'd thanked him he left.

"Why didn't you just wake me up?"

"You were sleeping adorably." She said jokingly. However, she knew it wasn't a joke. She actually loved to watch him sleep. He always slept like an adorable little boy, who'd just gotten tucked in by his mother; His arms wrapped around his chest or stomach, a slight smile covering his face and his hair was always messy when he woke up.

"Okay." Lisbon was surprised he didn't ask any more questions since he always noticed when she was lying. Only this time, he didn't.

He dragged his legs out of the bed and sat up straight, rubbing into his eyes with his knuckles. The dark circles underneath his drooping eyes were emitting mental exhaustion and sickness. His rheumy eyes were red and wet and he stared down at the ground. Wistfully thinking about his father and Van Pelt, he got up and walked over to the bathroom. Lisbon followed his movements with her eyes and decided whether she was going after him, or just leave him be for a moment. The last option seemed more compassionate so she didn't follow him and stayed in bed silently, thinking about the Red John case. He'd kidnapped one of her best friends and she couldn't do anything about it. Jane was the one who had to make the choice; Killing his father and hoping Red John would release Van Pelt, or letting his father live and being the cause of an CBI agent's death? She knew Jane was a well-adjusted person who never seemed to worry about a thing. He seemed mentally strong and could solve a case without becoming very upset. Yet, she knew he wasn't that strong. Red John had shown her.

[ A couple of hours later, at the office.]

Jane walked over to the interrogation room. He didn't want to go in there, but he needed to do it. He had to kill.. uh interrogate his father. Jane scanned the room anxiously. Everyone was in the 'secret' room where they would watch him and his father talking about Red John. Lisbon, Rigsby and Cho were there for sure. He hid the small knife he'd bought before coming to office with Lisbon in his pocket. Then, he let out a deep sigh and opened the door of the interrogation room.

Alex was at first sight startled by seeing his youngest son who he had beaten up a couple of days earlier. Jane's head was covered with bruises and the large cut on his cheek did look like it would hurt a lot. He looked down at the ground as his son seated opposite of him. "Patrick.." He stammered barely hearable.

"It's Mr. Jane for you." He said straight faced, opening the Red John files he'd brought with him. He laid them upon the table, turned them around and shoved them towards Alex who was curiously looking at them. He was facing the picture of Angela and CHarlotte Jane, lying dead on the ground in a pool of crimson red blood. The scared look on their faces while living their last moment of their life made him gasp. He quickly shoved the picture towards Jane, who wasn't looking at it. "Angela.." Mumbled Alex sadly. "I gotta ask you a thing ..Alex. Was Red John also there in that abandoned building, or was it just you?" Jane stared him in his eyes, the eyes he used to recognize as trustworthy and safe.

"We swapped.."

"Swapped? Continue."

"He held me hostage.. I saw you getting tortured by him on a video tape. Then.. He came to me while you were unconscious, told me to torture you further. I couldn't stop until you would become unconscious again. He said he would murder Jacob if I didn't do what he told me to do.. So.." Alex wiped away a tear that had slid down on his cheek.

"Do you have any idea where Van Pelt could be?" Jane grasped the pile of Red John files and browsed through them. Then he got a picture of Van Pelt out of the files and held it in front of Alex's purview. He nodded his head in ignorance. "She's kidnapped by Red John. I'll have to kill you, otherwise Red John won't let her go. She's a really good friend of mine." Explained Jane, looking at the wall.

"I don't know. Truly Patrick.. Believe me." He said, staring into his son's blue/green eyes. Jane laid the picture down on the table and tapped with his index finger against his chin. He frowned, still not looking at his father.

"I don't." Jane said harshly, picking up the files again and getting up from his chair. Then he walked towards the door and opened it.

"Don't leave. Patrick.. I know I abandoned you in the past.. I did a lot of wrong things, wasn't a good father. But seeing you now.. it makes me proud to be the father of such a great and smart man.."

Jane slowly closed the door again and listened, looking up at the ceiling.

"I'm so proud of you. For what you've become after so many years of struggling. I'm so..so sorry for choosing for Jacob instead of you. Do you know how long I've searched for you when you ran away? I hired detectives with the last money I got left.. I wanted my special boy back. Not because of your 'gift'. No.. Just because you're my special boy. And you'll always be. I'll always be proud of you Patrick."

The door opened again and he left. Everything was silent, except for the sobs of Alex Jane. The broken father.

Lisbon, Rigsby and Cho had witnessed the whole thing. Lisbon's heart broke as she saw the man she loved so ..vulnerable. So fragile. After Jane had left the room, everything stayed silent. Even Rigsby didn't have anything to say. He wasn't even eating anything, which was really worrying.

"Jane. Wait!" Lisbon had gone after him and grabbed him by his arm. He turned around, stared at her and turned his back towards her again. She noticed his eyes were red and puffy, the dark circles underneath his eyes were more darker than before and his lips were pretty dry. He moved on walking towards the stairs. All he wanted to go to was his attic. The attic where he could finally rest, finally be in peace for a moment. He slowly tiptoed his way up and walked through the small hallway, which led up to his room. He had a strange feeling about this. As he stood in front of the door which he had locked before he'd went away, he noticed the door was unlocked and slightly opened. He didn't want to open the door, but his curiosity took hold of him and he slowly pushed against it. The wailing sound of the door opening was the very last thing he remembered. He was in trance as he faced a red smiley, drawn with blood upon the wall next to the window and his bed.

The once jumping and living Jacob laid on his back, not three feet beyond the radius of the door, in a pool of blood that was almost dried and gave the room a sickly-sweet butchershop odor. The scent made Jane gag and almost throw up, but he held it in. His eyes couldn't move away from the bloody mess in front of him. He'd seen a dead body before, but this was his very own brother. The big brother he used to play with at the carnival. The big brother he conned people for. Eyes that once danced with light were now vacant and staring. Jacob's blue eyes stared into Jane's. The same eyes. Everyone told them they looked so much like each other.

His skin was literally deadly pale. The mouth that was so quick to smile in life laid stiff and agape. The arms that held his little brother tight when he was sad or lost or when Alex had been mad to him were hanging loosely like the limbs of a rag doll violently thrown. He stared at his lifeless form. Not believing his big brother was actually gone. The blood on his body came from the huge, deep cuts in his stomach and neck. Also, purple welts were scattered across his abdomen like a disease. Jane couldn't hold himself in any more longer. A tear escaped from the corner of his eye and slid down on his cheek, slowly to his chin. After a couple of seconds, it fell down onto the ground, mixing itself up with the pool of blood around Jacob's body. Soon, the tear disappeared in the pool of blood. His father couldn't see this. He would break down completely.

"Lisbon" Shouted Jane. Well, he tried to shout, but his voice wouldn't work. Only a soft whisper came out of his mouth. It was barely hearable. He stared at the smiley which was drawn upon the wall, and fell down onto his knees, covering his face with his hands.

After Jane had ignored and slightly rejected Lisbon, she'd turned around to fill in some paperwork in her office. As she sat down, she heard a sound coming from upstairs. The attic. Lisbon wasn't sure if there was something going on, so she just continued filling in paperwork. She looked at Alex Jane's files and sighed. They couldn't keep him here any longer, but he would go to jail because he was an accomplice of Red John according to most of the people here.

Then she heard the voice of Alex Jane. He was running through the hallway of the CBI office, towards the elevator. Lisbon stood up immediately and pulled out her gun. She pointed it at him and told him to stop, but he didn't hear her. Rigsby and Cho weren't chasing him. He'd probably escaped when Rigsby and Cho were reading through some files or presumable trying to find a lead to save Van Pelt. So, Lisbon ran after Alex. To her surprise, he didn't go directly to the elevator, but to the stairs opposite from it. He was going to the attic, to Jane.

Short chapter since I dunno what to do with this story at all. Could you people help me out a bit? Thanks for reading this story :) I really appreciate it. Also, I wrote another Jisbon fanfic/oneshot. It's called 'Done' and it's about Jane finally confessing his love to Lisbon, which leads to an unexpected fight with Marcus Pike.

And I've written a oneshot about Jane being Red John. It's of course called 'Red Jane'. You didn't expect that huh? No jk. Be sure to check these stories out! I'll leave the links down below. I don't know if you're able to click on them and if they'll take you directly to the stories. Let's hope so. Otherwise you can just click on my profile and find them there.

Don't forget to vote and to comment. See you in the next chapter!
