Chapter 26
Katniss's POV.
I patiently wait sat in a chair, a glass separating me from the prisioners locked in this stupid jail. I'm waiting for Peeta.
Since I arrived I knew this place would make Peeta miserable in here. The massacre grey walls stop the sun rays to from coming in, creating this awfully depressing environment, the putrid smell of sweat and dreams crashed brings tears from my eyes.
I look up from my hands, which are restes in my lap, to see those sparkling blue eyes staring straight at me.
"Peeta" I say, resting my hand on the glass that separates us and stops me from feeling his warmth.
He places his hand on the other side of the glass, as if trying to reach me.
"Hey." he says, his voice barely louder than a whisper.
I look at him, besides the bright orange prisioner outfit he is wearing, he looks almost the same. His blond hair falls down his forehead messily, the tips of his hair curled. I also notice the huge bags under his eyes, which are red. and bloodshot. I also notice a big purple bruise under his jaw.The while sight makes me feel broken inside, although being able to look at his face again gives me strengh.
My expression shirts to a concerned one.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"I'm fine Katniss, don't worrie about me." he says, smiling weakily, but warmingly at the same time.
"Don't think you're off the hook that easily. I'm still mas at you for what you did." I say.
"I was already expecting that." he says, chuckling.
"What's that bruise under your jaw?" I ask.
"It's nothing, Katniss. Really." Peeta says shaking off the subject. He knows I'm not letting it go that easily, why trying?
"Seriously, Peeta, what is it?" I insist.
"Katniss, it's nothing big, it was just a guard."
"Who? Who did it? I swear they will pay! I'll beat that guy's ass!"
Peeta chuckles. "Katniss, it's fine. It doesn't even hurt. I've got worst, trust me."
"Fine." I huff.
Peeta laughs weakly.
"Peeta" I call, turning serious.
he looks up at me, looking at me cautiously "Yeah?"
"I promise I'll wait for you. And then we get married." I say.
A smiles grows across Peeta's face. "I love you, you know?"
"And I love you."
We stare at each other for a few moments, until a guard comes and roughly pushes Peeta from the chair and out the door, claiming visiting hour is over.
And with that, he disappears.
I go back home, where my family and friends wait for me.
They support me, no matter what, and I'm sure I love them too.
I certainly don't want to live in a world without them. I think how it would be life without Finnick's humor, Annie's sweetness, Prim's kindness, mom's warmth and ,above all, a world without Peeta's eyes, love and caring words. And I already know I couldn't live in that world.
