Liam smiles as he sees an incoming Skype call from his girlfriend. "The misses is calling, I'm going to step out," Liam announces. Louis, Niall, and him were sitting around playing video games on the tour bus. 

"Have fun talking to your lock and bolt," Louis teases. Liam rolls his eyes. 

"Coming from the one that's practically married, alright," Niall argues. Louis sticks his hands up and shrugs. Liam hurries out before he misses the call and accepts just in time. 

Sophia's face fills the screen and Liam's heart swells. Her long brown hair is curled and hangs well past her shoulders. She wears little makeup and her green eyes shine. Liam considers himself to be one of the luckiest lads on Earth since he gets to have the girl all to himself. 

"Hey, Gorgeous," Liam announces. Sophia blushes and looks away after mumbling a quiet hello. Liam can see that something's probably bothering her, but he figures he shouldn't bring it up. They called each other when they were having bad days to pick them up, so maybe she just needed a pick-me-up.

"What's up," Liam asks. She gives a shy smile and shrugs awkwardly. 

"I've just been missing you is all," Sophia explains. Liam wishes he could go through the screen and give her a hug and a few kisses. They've been dating for three years now and that's nearly three tours. Liam hates to think about all the time they've missed being together. 

Liam's touring was half the reason why they decided on an open relationship. They both were committed to each other, but they knew that they couldn't pleasure they're better half from half way across the world. So, Liam fooled with Louis and Sophia fooled around with whatever girl she found interesting. Even while having an open relationship, the two stayed devoted to each other fully. 

"Well, I've been thinking about it lately and since I've got you we should talk about the future," Liam starts. He's been thinking about his relationship with Sophia a lot lately. He wants to take it to the next level. He figures they could at least move in together or get a shared dog. 

"The future. So soon? We've only been together for three years," Sophia says. Only? In Liam's book, three years is long enough for them to start thinking about a future. Liam shrugs it off and continues. 

"I don't know, we've been through a lot together and I think we could try and explore more serious things. I see you in my life long-term, Soph, and I think we should start looking into that," Liam admits. He watches as she takes a few deep breaths and runs a hand through her hair nervously. 

Liam's heart leaps. What if she's not ready? What if she doesn't want to make the relationship more serious? Butterflies flutter in Liam's stomach as he waits agonizingly long for Sophia to say something. 

"I don't know, maybe we shouldn't. I like the pace we're at," Sophia explains. Liam decides that he should probably back off of the topic. He doesn't want to push Sophia into something she's not ready for. If she wants to keep things the way they were, they could... for a while at least. 

"Okay, no rush. I just thought we could bring it up and think about it a little," Liam reassures. She lets out a small laugh and, now, Liam knows for sure something's up. She'd been acting nervous and anxious the whole call, what could be so serious? 

Was she pregnant? God, Liam hopes not. As much as he wants to take the relationship more seriously a baby isn't what he had in mind. He's not ready to be a dad. What if she cheated on him? It's not like it would be that bad, even if it was a guy. Liam would prefer her have cheated on him than her being pregnant. 

"I think we need to talk about something, Liam," Sophia starts. Liam's heart drops. He thinks he knows where this is going and, god, that's not what he wants. He does a silent prayer that this isn't what he thinks it is. 

"What about, Love?"

"I think we should break up," She admits. Liam's heart falls. It falls through his chest and lands on the floor for all to see. His gut feels like an empty hollow filled with a black void. No. This couldn't be happening. Liam had been imagining getting a dog and this is what she was thinking? 

"Like, until I get back from tour?" 

"No, forever. Listening to you talk about the future gives me anxiety. We want different things, Liam. I want to have fun and be young and experience things. You want a family and a wife to come home to. I don't plan on settling down anytime soon. I'm sorry," Sophia explains. 

She let him talk about their future and then she brings this up? She couldn't even wait until Liam was back from tour? They have a concert tonight and Liam's supposed to go on stage and throw stuff at Louis and pretend to be happy? How can he be happy when the person he loves breaks up with him. 

"I'm sorry, this is just. God I feel like an asshole and I'm really sorry. I've been thinking about it for a while and I figured that I'd just get it done with now," Sophia continues.

 Liam's not even listening. The only thing he can hear is the pounding of his heart. He clears his throat and watches himself hang up on her. He feels the tears drip down his cheeks, but he can't feel them. Not really. 

She broke up with him. He hears the door open and, through a hazy blur, he sees Louis enter the room. His face falls and he doesn't ask questions as he brings Liam into his arms. Liam guesses that Louis can tell what's happened. Liam's thankful Louis doesn't push him. 

"It'll be alright," Louis promises.
