-Prologue-

-Elizabeth's Pov-

My country Britannia had been in a war as long as history was written. Humans, Giants and Fairies were at war with the Demons. No one knew why. I was one of very few with a very unpopular opinion. Maybe offer peace between races. I had never met a demon before. Then again, I had never left the castle before. My name was Elizabeth Liones, I was the Third Princess of the Human Clan. My mother died during an attack from the Demon Clan when I was just a baby so I never really met or knew her.

I rarely ever saw my father. He was always busy with something about the war. Though I had two older sisters, I never saw or talked to them either. My oldest sister Margaret was always busy helping the people of the Human Clan. My other sister Veronica was always training and helping out with the war effort. So I didn't know my family very much or well. I didn't really have any friends either. I was always alone normally in the castle library reading. I was very awkward when came to talk to others.

When I was younger people tried using me, tried killing me and much more. People of my own race, of the giants and fairies, also try to kill and harm others. This fact was drilled into me at a young age but because of it, I always wondered if there could be a way to make peace with the Demon Clan. It was the 2nd of April. Spring was coming pretty close to an end but everyone was called for a great meeting. Even myself and my sisters were asked to come to it. I didn't really want to go at all. Compared to my sisters, I looked nothing like my father or mother.

My two sisters were spitting images of my mother, everyone always said it. They had her purple shades of coloured hair while I had a bright silver shade. My father once had dark coloured hair but due to stress and old age, it had turned silver. I was confused by it. I hated my hair. I was the only person known to have this colour hair at such a young age of seventeen. Though it was my eighteenth birthday very soon. I was standing in the hall in the place given to me. Which was near my two older sisters.

I was able to tell it was them due to the bodyguards around them. As I never left the castle, I didn't really have my own guard. My father was sitting on the throne, the strongest knights in front of him. "As records of our history, we know that everyone couple of thousands of years a new Demon King is crowned" my father spoke while standing up. Our history. It wasn't very good. Mostly when it came to the Human Clan's history. We weren't the nicest race out there nor were we the most trusted.

"When a new Demon King is crowned, the demon race become extremely powerful and nearly wipe us all out, even the giants and fairies. Working alongside the Fairy King and the Gaint chieftain, we know that a Demon King can only be crowned once the Demon Princes find their 'mates', in other words, their lovers" my father soon explained getting many people to start whispering worried, annoyed and even scared. I personally found the information interesting. "We know this time there are three Demon Princes" my father informed us.

Three. Meaning three 'mates' were needed. "Most of the time their mates are from another race, when the time comes a mark will appear on the chosen mate. From now on, once every three days every female of ALL clans must be checked for these markings!" my father then nearly shouted as everyone was agreeing with the course of action. It was a logical thought. Finding the 'mate' before the Demon Prince but what would we do then? If we kept the 'mate' from the prince, wouldn't it cause a lot of trouble?

"Tomorrow we will start the checks, Lady Merlin of Camelot will be in charge of checking women from the Human Clan. Giant Chieftain Diane will be in charge of the women from the Giant Clan while Holy Maiden Elaine is in charge of the women from the Fairy Clan. If you believe you have the mark earlier than your check come forward right away. That is all, dismiss" my father then lastly added before went off to start setting up the checkpoints. I noticed many people going up to my father talking to him.

I also noticed my two older sisters talking and smiling with each other while I just got out the room right away. I was wondering more about this 'mate' thing worked on the demon's side. I understood delaying the new Demon King would benefit us in the war but was this war really needed? I found it more troublesome than anything. If only we were able to understand why it started, how demons were, then there could be peace. I knew no one would ever listen to a useless princess but I hoped someday someone tried.

I then went through the rest of my day, reading books, some classes and then a warm bath before going to bed. That was a normal day. Nothing ever exciting ever happens. While in the bath, I laid back looking at the ceiling. "I wonder what demons are like" I whispered to myself closing my eyes. I took a deep breath to relax but my mind kept wandering back to the thought. I always wanted to meet a demon but I was quite shy. I wasn't very outspoken like my sisters. They always stood out, they always spoke their minds.

I was nothing like them. I knew I never would be but I didn't mind very much. I like being different. I liked being the quiet girl who just enjoys reading a good book. While in the back I felt something burning on the back of my right shoulder. Before anything I felt a male chuckle echo around me, getting me to sit up fast in shock and fear. I looked around to see no one was in the room but then I noticed the water had bits of red starting to show. I turned my head to see blood rushing down my back into the water.

I did let out a scream in fear to get the maids and guards to rush in the room. Rushing to my aid only because of the fact I was related to the king. The maids were rushing me out the bath, getting towels and calling the royal doctors to the room fast. That was when one maid screamed in fear herself. I was confused but one shouted the reason. "SHE HAS THE MARK!". My own eyes widened hearing their words. That was when my sight started to get blurry. I felt myself fall sideways to hear the maids shouting 'your highness' all worried.

"Just wait for me" I heard a soft male voice whisper, sounding as if it was in my ear. The voice some reason felt calming more than anything.
