Who Knew Twinkies Could be a Weapon?
Jacob's PoV
The whistle sounded, signaling a timeout had been. Our team was down 28 to 33, and there was only time for one more play. If we won we'd be state champions. I walked to the sidelines and grabbed a bottle of water from Jessica, one of the water girls.
"You're doing great out there, Jacob," she said, smiling.
I gave a small smile in return, "Thanks, Jess."
She giggled as she went to give the other players water.
"Why don't you just ask her out already?"
I turned towards the source and saw the team quarterback, Max. He's two grades above me; he took me under his wing at the beginning of the year. He's the reason I tried out for the football team.
I gave my usual response, "I like someone else.
"Oh yeah," he responded, rolling his eyes. "You like a girl from that mysterious summer camp."
"It's true!" I defended.
"Of course it is," he replied sarcastically.
I was about to respond when the coach called for a team huddle.
"Okay, team," he started, "we're down, and it's the last quarter, but we've got the ball. You can still do this. Use play 32. Wilson, Jackson, Stoll, Smith, Evans, Jones, Thompson, Olson, Kent, Black, and Green are up. Get in there and win this game for Goode. Break!"
I made my way out to the field. I felt my heart beating, and, before I knew it, the play started. I felt my adrenaline surge as I ran, wind rushing through the front of my helmet; as Parker threw the ball to me. My heart pounded when I felt the ball connect with my hand; when I felt my feet fly towards the end zone. I felt my breathing speed up as the other team's defense rushed to stop me; as I doged everyone of them. I soon crossed the goal line; I soon felt joy as the buzzer went off, declaring our victory; I soon felt myself hoisted onto my cheering team's shoulders. To say I was happy would be an understatement.
My parents; grandparents; aunts and uncles, who are actually just my parents best friends; and cousins, who are their kids, could be seen cheering in the crowd, proud looks on their faces. My sister and Bri ran to me with another girl, but they were blocking her face.
"Jacob! You did it! You won!" Violet screamed as she pulled me into a hug.
I laughed at how happy she was for me, "Yeah, we did!"
She pulled away and smiled at me before turning towards her boyfriend Parker Stoll, who's twin sister was talking animatedly with the team.
Bri simply smiled and congratulated me before stepping to the side and revealing thr mystery girl. Light brown hair, a smile shining do to her braces, blue eyes that held the innocence of someone who never lied; the girl who gave me butterflies when I thought of her. Stella Ross, daughter of the truth goddess Aletheia.
"Hey, JJ," she smiled a genuine smile, not the flirtacious grin girls usually give me.
"Hey, Stella. Please don't call me JJ..." I responded.
"Okay! Congrats on winning the big game," she said.
"Thanks," I replied.
"Who's this," Max asked.
"I'm Stella Ross," she stook out her hand. "You are?"
"Max Wilson," Max responded as he shook her hand. "It's nice to finally meet you; Jacob doesn't shut up about you. I was starting to think he'd made you up."
I shot Max a galre as Stella asked, "You talk about me?"
I knew there was no point lying to a daughter of Truth, so I dropped my face as I nodded my head.
"Oh..." I looked up in time to see her blushing. Great, I embarrassed her.
I was trying to think of a way to ease the awkwardness when I felt three small bodies collide with mine, almost pushing me over. When I looked down, I saw my brothers Finn, Eric, and Asher. I saw my parents and family smiling on the sidelines. I had just started when I heard a scream.
"They have guns!" Jessica was pointing at a man who had just walked onto the field.
After taking a look at him I could tel, he was a monster. I shot a look at Violet who looked really annoyed.
"That guy just won't stay dead, will he?" She muttered before reaching into her purse and pulling out a Twinkie. She then proceeded to run towards the monster. "Hey, Dracula! Have a Twinkie!" She threw the Twinkie at the monster then ran off.
I started after and saw my parents doing the same. Grandma and Grand-Paul had my brothers with her, but Finn was fighting to get away from Paul. I wanted to tell him to stay put, but I had to help Violet. By the time I got to her she'd taken out the monster, but there was a problem. He hadn't been alone.
I saw multiple dracine, telhkines, empousa, and the manticore.
"Well if it isn't Jackson Junior," one of the empousa stated. She had a cheer-leading uniform that read 'Kelli.'
I felt myself start towards her. Somewhere in the back of my mind I questioned what I was doing, I knew she was a monster, but I couldn't help it. I was kept walking until we were only inches apart. Suddenly I felt her claws digging into my arms and realized how stupid I'd been. I looked to see if Violet would help, but she was busy fighting off the manticore. I was just coming to terms with my death when Kelli's eyes went wide.
She fell to her knees, revealing my mom, who was holding a knife, "Not my son you- Finn?" I turned to see Finn staring at the head of a now gone manticore.
He looked up smiling and said, "I killed him."
Dad gave him a thumbs up, but Mom was livid, 'We'll talk about this when we get to camp!" Finn suddenly looked terrified, but he continued to swing his ax.
Within minutes we'd killed the remaining monsters, and loaded up into our car. We sat in silence as we made the not-so-comfortable ride to camp, covered in monster dust.
