Ch.12| A Lost Lead
Allison's View
"AHHHHHH!"
I covered my ears with my hands as Ed screamed bloody murder, at the rubble at our feet. The whole library, the one with all Dr. Marcoh's research is destroyed to pieces. My eyes narrowed, it was impossible this was just a mere coincidence. Someone must have known we were coming here and for what. Otherwise none of this would be here, the library would still be standing with all the information we needed on the philosopher's stone.
"All Dr. Marcoh's research...! It's all gone!" Ed screamed, falling to is knees.
I walked over to Ed, that side of me that has been taking over me for a while now came out again. "Fullmetal, get up. We don't have time to be wasting, if you want to get your hands on the philosopher stone then let's go to Mustang." I offered, in a strong, commanding like voice.
He sighed, "I know we don't, Ali, Rose, whoever you are now. Let me just look around a bit, there could be some books or papers that survived." He said.
I sighed, placing my hands on my hips. "Fine. Hurry and go search the debris." I said.
Ed immediately ran over to the burnt ashes of the books, he searched and searched. In the end, nothing was found, not one book or paper made it.
"There's nothing left here but ashes. Everything's gone." Ed stated, ashes passing through his gloved hands.
"Major Armstrong, Lieutenant Rose!"
I turned around, as did Ed and Armstrong.
"Oh, second lieutenant Ross and sergeant Brosh." Armstong shouted. "To what do we owe this pleasure?"
"Both you and lieutenant Rose have been ordered to report back to Central, sir." Ross said.
"We'll be taking over supervision of Edward Elric and his brother, effective immediately." Brosh said.
"Very well. He's yours." Armstrong said.
"What is this?!" Ed yelled, making me look over at him in confusion. "Just when I think we're home free, they saddle me with more bodyguards! This is getting old!"
I giggled, "Hey, big brother, orders are orders. Plus, I happen to be higher than you, so you have to listen." I smirked.
"Yeah, yeah, be quiet. I'm still older than you though, so I wouldn't be talking.." He mumbled.
I laughed, "Okay, brother. Well, Major and me are going to head out. Stay safe." I told him, and then faced both Lt. Ross and Brosh. "And you two. Make sure neither of them get into any trouble, I trust that both of you will take good care of them."
They saluted. "Yes, Lt. Rose! We both promise you that they will be in good hands for the next few days!" They shouted.
I nodded and saluted back at them, "Good. I'll be off now." I said, "Major."
"Right behind you." He replied.
We walked on ahead together heading to Central, more specifically, Roy's office. I pushed the doors open to the central building and headed straight for Roy's office on the upper floor. There was this feeling in the pit of my stomach. It was like it didn't want me to head to his office. Something bad must've happened while we were gone. I looked up at his door, which appeared in my face so suddenly. It looks like I ran up here quickly. Major knocked on the door.
"Come in." Roy said.
Major opened the doors and walked in, with me following right behind. Roy was sitting in his desk with a rough look on his face, right then I knew he had bad news for us both.
"Lt. Rose, Major Armstrong.. I'm glad you both made it back from your little visit in Resembol. On that note, is your auto mail better now, Rose?" Roy asked.
I nodded. "Yes, it's much better than before. My auto mail was a little old. It was going to break someday. Now that I have it fixed it should be ready for any combat I'm thrown into, so I'm ready for anything when you are, colonel." I said, explaining my situation.
"I wouldn't worry about being thrown into combat right away, you've already been in some serious trouble with the Elric brothers. Take a small break, two days at least you need you rest. Same goes for you Major." Roy said. "Anyways, on the other hand. We seem to be having some troubles lately."
"What kind of troubles, Colonel?" Major asked.
"I'm guessing that you've both have seen what's left of the central library, correct?" Roy said, quirking an eyebrow at us.
"Ruble." Major stated.
"There's nothing left of it but ashes, what happened?" I asked.
Roy sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. He spun his chair around, now looking out the window. "I can't quite say what exactly happened, but it looked like someone bombed the place on purpose. Explosions like that just don't happen like nothing, it had to be targeted for a reason. Would you have any idea on why it would be a target?" Roy asked, suspiciousness laced in his voice faintly.
Small beads of sweat formed on my forehead, if he knew we contacted Dr. Marcoh and he gave us a lead to information on the philosopher stone that led straight to the central library. He would know we had something to do with it when really we didn't. What makes me curious is the person or group that targeted the library. Did they know we were heading there, were they trying to stop us from finding that information we craved for?
"Colonel, I assure you that we nor the Elric brothers had anything to do with central getting destroyed. As you know, we only went to Resembol for the repairs Lt. Rose and the Elric's needed. We had no time to stop by anywhere else with the time it took to get them used to their new auto mail." Major explained, covering up the fact that we did indeed stop by somewhere else on small journey to Resembol.
Inwardly, I thanked Major for assuring Roy's suspicions about us.
"I see, well then... Let me begin to explain the real reason I needed both of you here." Roy said, staring at us, his eyes getting cold. "In that library that happened to get destroyed suddenly, were all our criminal files we were using on many on going cases. Such as, the one with Tucker and his daughter, Nina."
My breathing hitched, memories and clear pictures flickered before my eyes. Nina. She was a young girl, Rose, cared deeply for. But she was dead, murdered ruthlessly. Rose had a deep bond with her and her father, but her father was a horrible man that decided to use his own blood to experiment on just to create a filthy chimera.
I swallowed the lump in my throat. "What your saying is that all your files that you needed for that case and many others are now... lost?" I asked.
"Correct. The whole lead onto her death is now burned to ashes. We have no files for any of our cases now. To make things even worse, I have to go and search around to see if anything managed to survive the explosion." Roy said. "I sent Riza out there already."
"To me, it seems like someone is targeting whatever we think is important to us. This can't be a mere coincidence." I stated.
"That's what I'm thinking, nothing happens like this." Roy said.
"Colonel, what are you going to do about the Elric's then?" Major asked Roy.
Roy sighed, and rubbed his temples. "I have no idea at the moment, for now they can wonder around and do their business here." He answered.
The door burst open, "Reporting in, sir!" I looked at the soldier who was saluting with sweat dripping down his face. "We've just received word on an explosion that occurred on the Marl River!"
My eyes widened. What was happening! "What?!" Roy gasped.
"Colonel, we should head out there immediately. Who knows how bad the damage is." I said.
"You're right. Major, Lt. Rose, let's go." Roy said, standing up and rushing out the door.

"Was it a gas explosion?" Some soldier asked.
I shook my head. "A gas explosion couldn't have done such a great amount of damage like this." I told him, the walked over to a small puddle of water.
I grabbed the yellow jacket stained with a good amount of blood out of the water. Riza walked over, holding her hand out. I handed her the jacket knowing exactly who it belonged to. Roy examined the jacket as well.
"There's no doubt about it." Riza said.
"This has to be Scar's jacket, it's the same one he wore at the fight not to long ago." I added.
"Have you found the body?" Roy asked us.
"Not yet, but we're still searching." Havoc answered, scratching his head.
"Either way, he can't be in good shape after losing this much blood." Riza said.
"He's got to be close." I said.
"Yeah... But we do this by the book. We need to find hard proof that he's dead." Roy stated. "Alright, Lt. Havoc."
"Yes, sir?" Havoc asked.
"You and your men will work day and night to clear out this debris. I want his body found." Roy ordered. "Don't take so much as a coffee break until that's done, do you understand?"
"Come on colonel, can't you cut us some slack?" Havoc whined. "At this rate your going to work us all to death."
"Lazy ass..." I muttered, whistling to side as Havoc glared daggers at me.
"Shut up!" Roy shouted, ticked off. "I don't get to rest until I've seen his body. That means you don't get to either."
"I guess we'll get to work then." Havoc sighed.
I took a glance at Roy, "Colonel, I'll be helping Havoc and his men. It'll help speed things up a bit." I said.
"No, I only ordered him and his men to clear this out. You don't have to work, I gave you a small break." Roy stated.
"I know, sir. But with more people working to clear out this mess, the faster we'll get down and the faster you'll get to rest." I pointed out.
He sighed. "Fine go ahead, but don't stay too long. Once it's dark you head back to your apartment, got it?"
"Yes, sir."
