4; Rearrange the Stars

"Zak...?" Tubbo asked. "Come on, man. You're scaring me a little."

Zak still didn't respond, instead breaking into a sprint and lunging at Tubbo. When he passed through the moonlight, Tubbo choked on his own fear. Zak was visibly decaying, an awful scent surrounding the once boy. Zak's jaw seemed unhinged, and he snarled, trying to grab ahold of Tubbo and bite him, or injure him. Anything for a drop of blood.

Tubbo wanted to scream, he wanted to cry for help, but he couldn't. He couldn't move, either. He just watched Zak as the now zombie reached to seize one of the boy's arms.

As if on cue, someone rammed Zak into the wall. It took Tubbo a moment to realize this was another zombie, and with fear he realized it was probably just trying to get Tubbo to themself.

Zak and the other zombie snarled, the other zombie hitting Zak in the face, and hard. It repeated this a few times, a sickening crunch sounding every time its fist collided with the others face. Zak's decaying skull was bound to be broken, and he collapsed to the floor in a puddle of rotten blood, now dead.

Tubbo's eyes adjusted to the dark, and fear pulsed through him when the other zombie turned to him. Its hair was surprisingly dry, ruffled so that it fell over its eyes. it had a chunk of its face taken, and Tubbo could see its teeth through its cheek. It had a black bitemark on it's right arm, and its shirt was torn at the end, his stomach sliced open to reveal its innards. It limped, and Tubbo realized it had a bite taken out of its knee, and the boy could see its kneecap.

The odd thing about the zombie, though, was that it didnt show any sign of wanting to eat Tubbo. It showed real emotion, and it approached him hesitantly. It seemed concerned, and when some light trickled into its eyes, Tubbo saw recognition. Tubbo observed what it wore, backing up a bit, and for a moment he saw Tommy. The zombie wore the exact same shirt Tommy usually wore, how could he not see him? And he was surprisingly tall, just a bit taller than Tubbo, but shorter than Wilbur.

Could it be...? Tubbo thought desperately hoping his mind wasnt playing tricks with him. The zombie looked almost exactly like Tommy, theres no way it wasn't him.

"Tommy?" Tubbo asked. The zombie flinched, taking a step back, and Tubbo noticed its eyes were a dull blue, but they had a flicker of light in them. He's not gone. He's still in there, I know it!

Footsteps urgently ran to the kitchen, and Darryl appeared. "TUBBO!" He shouted, and Tommy darted away, running into the darkness and down the stairs into the basement.

"Oh my- Are you oka-," Darryl's eyes widened, and he looked behind him. Zak was there, now fully dead, and it was clear that he was a zombie. No one could say the zombie Tommy killed a human.

"He- He beat him up. I don't know why- But Darryl, Zak was gone. I'm so sorry, Bad." Tubbo hugged Darryl, who was staring at the carcass with tears of disbelief slowly dripping down his face.

Darryl said nothing, but hugged Tubbo back. He looked over the boy's shoulder still, his eyes glued to his best friends dead body.

Wilbur and Phil rushed into the room, moving quickly towards them. Panic was flowing through their movements, and they were quick to be by the two boys' side.

"Are you guys okay!?" Wilbur practically shouted. "What are you looking a.....at." He trailed off, following the gaze of the two boys. He looked sick, and Phil looked away with a torn expression. "Oh my god..."

"Zak," Darryl finally spoke, his voice breaking. "How did I not notice, all the signs were there! Tubbo, are you hurt?" Darryl was quick to take his attention away from Zak, surprising Tubbo a bit. Zak and Darryl were best friends, how did Darryl get over Zak so fast? Tubbo wondered.

"It's over, I had no way of controlling it. He's better off dead then as one of them," Darryl answered, and Tubbo realized he had spoken his thoughts out loud.

Is Tommy better off dead then as one of them, too?

Tubbo glanced towards the shadows, looking directly at the stairwell. He lowered his gaze to Zak's body, before quickly looking away again, instantly regretting looking at his body. He wanted to retch with disgust, but he swallowed his bile and turned to Wilbur.

"I... I'm okay, just tired." He looked at the floor, suddenly interested in studying all of the cracks and indents. Wilbur gave him a searching look, blinking and fixing his expression.

"Yeah, you should go rest. It's at least 2am." Wilbur looked through the window, watching the moons position in the sky. Tubbo wondered if his other friends were watching him from the moon, watching Earth slowly tear itself apart.

Tubbo looked at the stars, too, trying to make shapes in the sky. He wanted to be able to believe his friends were really still watching them, and werent vicious monsters. He connected a few stars in the shape of a canine, and mentally named the formation 'Fundy'. I hope you're doing well... Tubbo thought, smiling softly at the stars.

Phil snapped him out of his trance, announcing, "We should all go to sleep. We've had a rough few days, and its clear we're all tired. I'll guard the door, incase any zombies try to break in because of all the noise we caused."

Tubbo didn't want to sleep. He didn't want to feel so vulnerable, he wanted to find Tommy. He was so sure the zombie was Tommy, his mind desperately comparing mental images of Tommy to his memory of the zombie. It had to be Tommy, it just couldnt be anyone else, Tubbo thought, looking up at Darryl, who was watching him closely.

Right?
