10: A Short Trip

The walk to the tower seemed like it'd be shorts and painless, but it was very much the opposite. It took a few hours at least, and the group was forced to walk though forests that had small river openings in them. Tommy and Ranboo seemed to get along, speaking in some language of growls and yaps. Wilbur seemed stressed, but that wasn't surprising, because he was constantly asking Tubbo if he was okay.

The tower was also alot larger than expected, connected to an equally large building. It was two floors, but to the group's disappointment, totally abandoned. They found the tower's blinking light had been set off when the apocalypse started, flashing as a warning. There used to be sirens, too, but upon investigation, those were torn to shreds and busted.

"Well, this isnt completely useless. There's a map here," Ranboo pulled three small mapping devices out of a drawer, along with a paper map. Phil and Tubbo grabbed two of the mapping devices, Tubbo turning it around curiously.

"I wonder if theres more, I'll go check." Darryl was swift on his feet, instantly in another room and opening the drawers. He left the others alone for about ten minutes, before he came back with about 10 other map devices, appearing like the small radios that police used. He also held a pack of batteries for the electronics, Ranboo offering to keep them in his pockets.

The group heard snarls just outside of the building, and glimpsed two zombies, a little far away, fighting over a corpse. Tubbo winced, looking away, unable to unsee the awful sight. They took this as a sign to leave, wasting no time in running out the door. Once they heard nothing, they slowed to a walk, coming to a cliffside. The cliff overlooked a city, Darryl letting out a small squeak.

"This is- Antfrost lives here." Darryl said, wondering if his friend somehow managed to survive in his house.

(note; in no way am I trying to replicate anything I know (I dont actually know anything about where Ant lives) so dont take this book literally. I put the mcyts close together, k?)
"We can check to see if he's there, the city's completely still." Techno said, his eyes flickering across every detail. There was no movement other than loose papers and trees,

"We shouldnt waste time. He's probably not even there." Wilbur said blankly, fidgeting with the collar of his sweater. His eyes shone with caution, he looked like he was in a hurry, but trying to contain himself.

"But what if he is, and needs help?" Tubbo asked, looking to Ranboo, who had opened his mouth. Or, he looked like- no, yeah, he did, he was talking.

"I agree with Tubbo, we should atleast check. It wont take very long, I dont think." He said, his eyes stuck on the city. Wilbur growled something under his breath, but the group moved to the city anyways.

Tommy trailed behind them, occassionally stopping to taste the air. Oddly enough, Ranboo had informed Tubbo, zombies had an amplified sense of smell. Tubbo didnt notice anything different, but he figured it was because the others were more zombified. They could also hear alot more, and the slightest movement would alert them.

Luckily the trip down the side of the cliff wasnt as scary and long as expected, and they were walking through the city before they realized it. Darryl led the way, scrunching up his face when he had to think about where Antfrost lived.

When they finally stopped at the house, Darryl rushed in without a second thought. The others were just getting through the doorway when they heard a shriek, each wincing or worried. Theyd have to leave. Fast.

Ranboo rushed into the room first, about to snarl, but instead let out a horrified gasp and stopped in his tracks. Tubbo's curiosity got the best of him, and he looked past Darryl and Ranboo. Bad idea.

The room was cut up, blood staining the walls and floor. Two rotting corpses lay in the corner of the room, hugging eachother tightly, as if they had died together.

Because they did.

"Oh my god..." Phil glanced at Tommy, wondering if that's what it had looked like when he was killed.

"No one deserves to die like that," Techno said, sadness dripping from his words. "That's... At least they weren't alone."

"An-Ant... Red..." Darryl whispered, closing his eyes tightly and looking away. Ranboo whispered something reassuring to him, leading him out of the room. The group stood in the living room, the one part of the house that seemed to have a correct name.

"Well that was a waste of time." Wilbur huffed, "We came and checked if Ant was alive, now let's get out of here."

"While I agree with you about leaving," Ranboo said, rubbing circles on Darryl's back. "I'd like to know what's going on with you. You smell funny, and you're so... so in a mood."

"I smell funny?" Wilbur snorted, but there was no amusement in it. "Well, maybe if you were paying attention," Hs shot a glare at the original four; Phil, Techno, Tommy, and Tubbo. Tommy's eyes widened and he stood up abruptly, as if he had pieced together a large, impossible puzzle. A scary one.

"You wouldve seen the chunk get taken from my shoulder!"
