Ch. 26 The Parents
After the meeting I decided to call my mom because I knew exactly how she was going to react.
"Hello dear! I can't believe you actually called me first!" She said excitedly, I sighed and rubbed my face.
"Hey mom, I just wanted to know if it would be okay if I brought Elena and Liam over for dinner?" I asked.
"Oh my goodness, of course you can! What time do you think you'll be here?"
"Well Elena gets off in an hour. She'll probably want to take a shower and change first. So maybe in a couple of hours?"
"Oh okay, that's fine dear. You'll be spending a night right?"
"Yeah, I guess we will."
"Great! We'll see you then!" She said and hung the phone up.
I left the police station and headed home. When I got there I decided to take a quick shower, then I picked Liam up from Marina, and headed to the hospital. I hadn't been there but a couple of minutes when she walked outside. A big smile quickly spread across my face, she looked so amazing.
I opened my door and stepped out of the car to meet her. She ran into my arms catching me completely by surprise. For a moment I simply enjoyed her warm body leaning against me. But then I realized she was sobbing, the thought of her crying was heartbreaking.
I stood frozen for a few seconds then I wrapped my arms tightly around her, "Hey, what's wrong?" I asked, worried.
"We lost a baby and the mom is in a coma because of her abusive husband," she blurted into my chest.
I rubbed her back gently, hoping it might soothe her a little. I didn't know what to say or do to make her feel better.
"I'm sorry you had to deal with that, especially on your second day," I said, sadly. "We don't have to go to my parents house if you don't want to, I'd completely understand."
She shook her head, "No I need the distraction. My boss is already making me stay home for a couple of days."
"Well let's get going then," I said, as I opened the car door and guided her into the passenger seat.
She slowly climbed inside. I went to the other side of the car and got in. I pulled out of the hospital parking lot and headed towards home.
"Momma are we really going to meet daddy's momma and daddy today?" Liam asked excitedly.
I smiled softly knowing my parents would adore him just as much as I do.
"Yes, we're going to meet them. But, first I have to go home and get ready. Do you want to wear something nice for them too?" Elena asked Liam. I looked into the rearview mirror and saw Liam pondering the idea.
"Yes, I want to momma," Liam finally answered.
It took us about twenty-five minutes to get back home, then another thirty minutes to get Liam and Elena ready. By the time we got to the car my hands were starting to sweat from the nerves of them meeting my parents. The car ride was quiet, which I was grateful for. It was only a five to ten minute drive from the pack house to where my parents house was.
Elena got out of the car and went around to the back to unbuckle Liam from his car seat. She pulled Liam out of the car and we started towards the front door. We held onto Liam's hands as I opened the door to my parents house. Before I could even announce our arrival I heard my mom screamed in delight and rushed towards us.
"Hey mom, sorry we were a little bit late. This is Elena and her son, Liam. Elena, Liam, this is my mom, Lisa." I introduced them to each other, showing them to the sitting area. My mom started to get teary-eyed and hugged Elena tightly.
"Oh dear, you're more beautiful than they said you were. And this precious little boy, oh my. May I hold you dear?" My mom held her arms out and Liam ran to her.
I was starting to notice that Liam loved giving people hugs. It didn't matter who it was, he just liked hugs.
"So mom, where's everyone else?" I asked.
My mom opened her mouth to answer but a scream cut her off. I winced, why do they have to do that? I looked over at Elena, she was covering her mouth with her hand trying to hide her smile. I can't believe she's actually enjoying this! I shook my head in wonder. I turned around to face my younger siblings. My sister was running down the hall, my brother wasn't far behind her.
"Oh my God! Is this your mate? She's like…. Oh my God! Is this her son? He's soooo freaking cute! Oh, I'm Ashley, and this is my younger twin brother Zachary, " she said excitedly, as we made our way to our seats. Zach nodded his head towards us.
"Sorry about Zach, he doesn't talk much." I told them.
Liam walked up to Zach, "So does that mean you're going to be my uncle and you are going to be auntie?" He asked, looking first at Zack then at Ashley.
Zach smiled, which was really rare because he was so serious all the time.
"Yes, yes it does. And I'll try to be the best uncle ever," Zach said, which made us all smile.
I glanced over at Elena and realized she was crying. I jumped up and went over to her.
"Hey, is everything ok? Don't cry xiǎo tián tián," I said.
I heard my mother gasp. I looked back at her to see she was smiling fondly at us. I turned my attention back to Elena.
"Oh, I'm fine Alec. I'm just very happy, that's all. Sorry, I know it's silly," Elena said, looking down at her hands. I pushed her chin up with my forefinger.
"It's not silly at all and you never need to be sorry for crying love," I told her. My eyes widened when she turned her head away, trying to hide her blush from me. I chuckled and took a seat next to her.
Just as I was going to ask where dad was I heard him coming down the stairs. He entered the sitting room with a newspaper in one hand and his reading glasses in the other.
"Hello son, it's good to have you back here. Ah, so this is Elena and Liam?" He said, looking them over. They smiled politely at him.
"Yes, that's us. Um, I hate to ask... but I feel like I've seen you somewhere before," Elena said shyly.
He laughed," Well I hope so. I'm the mayor of this enchanting city."
Her eyes widened in shock, "So you're Kenichi Lambert? I've heard a lot about you in the two days I've worked at the hospital. I heard that you helped to weed out the gangs here. Is that true?" She asked in wonder.
He smiled softly at her, "Yes I did, but those were actually vampires. You know, I was kinda concerned that you were simply going to use my son to get whatever you wanted. But I'm afraid I may have misjudged you and I apologize for that. It wasn’t right for me to judge someone I'd never really met."
I saw my mom get up and smack the back of his head with a rolled up magazine because she was too short to use her hand. I heard my sister giggle. My brother and I had to hide our grins, we knew dad was in serious trouble with mom.
"How dare you say that, Ken! She's your son's mate! And your future daughter-in-law! You know what? You'll be cleaning the dishes tonight and you can sleep on the couch downstairs," my mom said, her hands on her hips. I saw my dad's shoulders sag a little with disappointment.
"I'm sorry my xiǎo tián tián, my rock, my everything. Please don't make me sleep downstairs," He pleaded, she watched him with a raised eyebrow.
"I'm not the one you should be apologizing to," she pointed at Elena. "It's her you need to plead with," she stated angrily.
Elena looked on in shock. She looked at me for answers. I shrugged my shoulders.
"This is normal." I said.
"Really? Everyone seems so open and honest. It's kind of strange to me," she whispered to me softly. I smiled and kissed her forehead.
"So, are we going to eat now? I'm starving and I'm pretty sure this little boy is too," Ashley asked, taking Liam's hand and guiding him to the dinner table. Everyone else followed their lead.
My dad sat at the head of the table, my mom sat on his right, and I sat down on his left. Elena was between me and Liam, my brother sat between my mom and sister. I looked up and down the table at the large variety of food and laughed.
"Mom are you expecting a party?"I felt Elena kick my shin. I looked at her confused, she frowned and shook her head.
"That's not very nice. Especially since she went out of her way for us," she whispered.
"Oh dear, I like you even more! And Alec, you'll be helping your father with the dishes." Lisa stated with a tight smile. Then looked around at everyone and cheerfully said, "Well dig in!"
After a few minutes of passing the food and drinks I heard Elena clear her throat before looking at me. I gulped knowing what she wanted me to do.
"Uhh mom?"
"Yes dear?"
"You know that I love you very much right?" I asked nervously. In my peripheral vision I saw both my dad and brother scoot away from me. They knew something was up and they didn't want to get caught in the crossfire.
My mom slowly narrowed her eyes in suspicion, "Yes I do. What did you do now?"
I cleared my throat, "Well, you see... I marked Elena… it was an accident. We were caught up in the moment and one thing led to another and I marked her without her consent. But that's not what I'm here for. I told her everything, including what happens if I don't finish the bond. She was ok with it, but she wants to get married before the full moon. Which is in less than two weeks."
We sat in awkward silence for a few seconds, then my dad banged the table with his fists making the dishes rattle.
"I thought you were better than that son! You should have more control over your urges! And maybe she's okay with it, but I'm not! What were you thinking!" He screamed at me.
My mom put her hand on his, "Oh hush. At least he didn't kidnap her like you did with me," she said, seriously.
"You did what?" Elena said, surprised.
"Uhh let's not get into that. We have to talk about this marriage thing," my dad said sheepishly.
"Marriage thing? I'm sorry to be rude but just because he's my soulmate doesn't mean that he's not going to marry me. I want him to be my husband and I want to be his wife. I love him," Elena said. My eyes widened with surprise after hearing her confessing her true feelings.
"Can you repeat Elena?" I asked, my voice rough with emotion.
She looked up at me and I noticed she had a hint of blush on her cheeks, "I-I said I love you Alec. I've known it for some time now."
"I love you too Elena," I said, staring into her beautiful eyes.
"I'm sorry for interrupting this moment but I have to ask Elena a question," Ashley said.
"Yes?"
"Well I was wondering if you have anyone in mind for your maid of honor? If not I would definitely like to be," Ashley said, excited.
"Oh umm, can we discuss this later? I'm not saying no it's just that Liam looks like he's about to fall asleep and I need to put him to bed," Elena answered, gently picking Liam up from the sofa.
I stood up too, "Thanks for dinner mom, dad. I'm going to help Elena get Liam to bed."
"Oh, your welcome dear. Never mind the dishes your dad and I will do them." My mom said, waving us off with a smile.
