Chapter Four
Aalia
I wake up in the morning, with the sun sweeping through the window and on to my eyes. I get up and decide to go give Lori breakfast first because she didn't have dinner last night. I know it was because of the family lawyer and the way he showed her like that in public. I mean hey if it happened to me then barely anyone would hear about it, they'd just be like well the little girl who lives by the hill is a maniac and move on. But it's harder being the daughter of a millionaire and so I let her skip dinner and mop around but hell I aint allowing it now. 12 hours without food can really turn it around. I head over to the kitchen and make myself and Lori some pancakes with maple syrup. I lay mine on the table knowing that I can't eat them until I shower and pray but Lori can have hers so I walk up the stairs to her room to hand it to her like every morning. More like shove it down her throat but ehh same thing. Hey it's all in good intention, I ain't gonna let her starve even if it means putting some physicallness in there. I walk up to her door and give a knock.
"Aalia not now please. I don't need another one of your lectures". She yells.
Okay, maybe I do like my spiritual talks about the lord and all that but heyyy, I've done everything I can to make her feel better. I get it, she needs her time but I think a month out of school with me basically shoving food down her throat and checking on her with my lectures to make sure she's alive, I think this is enough. I'm going to have her get back to school. She has a lot of catch up work to do. I push the door open. There she is laying, in her heap of blankets with her hair in a huge mess. This girl hasn't put a comb through her hair or showered since the funeral. Today I'm going to set all of that right.
" Ok listen up Lori, you are going to put a comb through your hair right but before that you are taking a shower. After that you may have your breakfast without me looming over you".
" Not like I want a shower or breakfast so you can leave thank you very much" Lori says annoyed and getting up.
" Ok well I'm still in charge around here and I know for a fact your parents don't want you sitting around all day. Get up and go take a shower".
Lori takes a huge breath before saying, "ok well now you listen up Aalia. I'm 18 meaning I can move out of here in the next 5 seconds. Not that I would though. And technically this is my house so I'm in charge and you are not forcing me to do anything."
Now it's my turn to take a deep breath. I should probably tell her before it's too late. Or should I? It'll break her. I don't know what to do.
"Oh noo. What happened now Aalia. What are you hiding?". Lori asks me with concern.
"No what do you mean." I reply.
"I know that look Aalia. You may be older but don't forget I've grown up with you and am 18 years old now. A well alert adult. So tell me what's up?"
I debate whether I should lie or tell her the truth.
"Oh no don't you dare think of lying", Lori interrupts my debate. Oh well she asked for it and she deserves it. After everything she's been through she sure as hell deserves the truth.
"Ok well, you know how the whole lawyer incident happened, with your minor outbreak".
"He was disrespectful, what did you expect me to say? And he even filed a case against me being a normal person only because he lost his biggest client. For MONEY. NOTHING ELSE but money". She retaliated. "Just get to the point straight up please, don't sugarcoat anything".
"Honey, since you refused to go to court after he filed that case for his last monthly payment, the court has deemed you unfit to take care of yourself. I am now your legal guardian, until you get therapy. "
I see her face go blank. I decide to continue. "Hun, I know this may seem like an unfair decision. Let me just say it is. But I can see your benefit in this. I think you really should see a therapist. It'll help you-.
She slams her bathroom door on my face.
