Chapter 4 - And my life just keeps on getting better...
Lucy's POV
When my alarm goes off at seven in the morning I automatically reach under my pillow to turn it off... only my phone's not there.
I slowly sit up and notice it sitting on top of my bookcase across the room, mocking me.
Oh, right, so I left it there last night so I would have to get out of bed to turn it off because I agreed to go along with this stupid plan which means I have to get up earlier to get ready.
Great.
I groan as I clamber out of bed and turn off the annoyingly loud ringing noise, mentally cursing my stupid plan to get me out of bed.
With my alarm taken care of, I sigh and grab the outfit that Amy and Jess chose for me before heading out of my room and into the bathroom to take a shower.
After washing and conditioning my hair, I exit the shower and wrap myself in a fluffy white towel as I assess myself in the mirror.
I don't look too bad, I suppose. My green eyes are bright and alert and my nine hour sleep has kept any bags from forming under them.
As I brush my teeth, I glare at the shorts sat waiting for me to put them on. I am still not happy with the idea of showing off my legs.
With my teeth brushed I sigh and start to get dressed, first slipping on my underwear before grabbing the white tank top and checked shirt and pulling them on, leaving the shirt unbuttoned. Lastly, I reluctantly pull on the shorts, absolutely dreading today.
Once I'm dressed, I go back to my room to dry and brush my hair before starting on my makeup.
I've decided to not go crazy with the makeup, so I just put on some foundation, a fairly thin layer of eyeliner, and a coat of mascara.
With that done, I'm pretty much ready.
I walk over and slip on the white flats before heading towards the mirror.
"Lucy Jacobs you had better be out of bed!" Amy calls, barging into my room before stopping dead at the sight of me in front of the mirror.
"I don't like it," I complain, turning to face her as Jess enters the room as well.
"You look hot," Amy replies.
"I feel naked," I mutter, looking back at the mirror and tugging down at the bottom of my shorts as they barely seem to reach mid-thigh.
"Well, you look hot," Amy repeats, grabbing my arm and spinning me to face her as she does a quick inspection, a smirk forming on her face. "Really hot, but you still look like you. This is going to drive Justin insane!"
"Ugh!" I moan, walking over to the bed and collapsing down onto it. "Today is going to be awful..."
"No, today's going to be awesome!" Jess corrects. "Now, be ready to leave in ten."
"But it's only eight," I point out. We don't usually leave until half past.
"We know, but we want to get there early today," Amy says with an evil grin.
"I hate you," I sigh.
"No you don't, you love us. Now, hurry up and get your crap together," Jess says before they leave the room to get their own crap together.
Within five minutes I have my school bag and my phone and am downstairs.
"Let's go people!" Amy calls out as she descends the stairs with her sister.
Ugh, these girls are just way too excited about this for my liking...
We call out a goodbye to Richard and Louisa before heading for the car and getting in.
When we get to school, I really do not want to get out of the car.
"Come on, Luce, I promise it won't be that bad," Amy says, climbing out of the car along with Jess.
Reluctantly, I follow them out.
The warm air hitting my legs as I climb out sends my nerves all over the place, but I try not to let it show as I walk over to join the other two at the front of the car before Amy locks it and we start heading towards the main building.
I can literally feel the shocked gazes on me as I walk. Well, looks like the mood of 'ignoring the Omega' seems to have passed. Oh, god...
"Just act natural," Amy says behind me.
I do my best to ignore the stares as I keep my eyes glued to the main building in front of me. I definitely don't look over at Justin's usual hangout spot to see if he's noticed me, I don't dare to.
I've just about reached the doors when the smell hits my nose. Apple and cinnamon... so dangerously delicious that it almost makes me want to turn and look at him... almost.
Once inside, I head straight for my locker to sort out my books before joining Jess and Amy as they stand by Jess's locker.
"You so should've seen their faces!" Amy says.
"Whose?" I ask.
"Melissa and her posse, of course! They were in total shock!"
Melissa Gregger being the biggest bitch in the world... well the whole Pack, at least. She's the definition of bimbo and has her heart wholly set on being Justin's future Luna. Of course, he only bangs her for fun, along with practically every other girl in school, because that's just what he does. He's never actually shown much real interest in her, though, despite her best efforts.
"Looks like someone's not too happy about the fact that you're finally showing off what you've got," Jess says with a grin.
"Ugh, well she's not the only one," I say.
Being an Omega, trying to stay under the radar is essential if you want to keep the bullying to a minimum. Unfortunately for me, my two best friends seem set on keeping me as high above the radar as possible.
"Oh, stop being such a downer," Amy laughs as we all start walking towards the Biology room.
Me and Jess both have Biology first lesson but Amy has English so she'll be leaving when the bell goes so that she's not late, the teacher already seems to have it in for her as it is.
"Today's going to be brilliant, I can just feel it," Jess says, leaning up against the wall next to the Biology door.
The science hallway's completely deserted because most people are still hanging outside with their friends as there's still fifteen minutes until the bell goes.
"Especially as Justin has Biology first thing too," Amy practically sings, making my level of dread rise dramatically. "Damn, I just wish I wasn't missing it."
"Guys, can't you seriously just drop it?" I ask, only short a few steps from begging. "What's done is done, it really doesn't bother me, I knew it was going to happen anyway... can't I just move on with my life?"
"Nope," they both reply simultaneously.
"What the hell not?" I huff, tugging down at the bottom of my shorts again self-consciously as I notice the hallway slowly starting to fill with students waiting for their first lesson of some form of science to begin.
"Because you deserve better than what that asshole did to you, babe," Jess says. "You deserve much better. And we're not going to stop until we show him that."
"Or, more like you show him that," Amy corrects, winking at me.
I let out a loud sigh. "You're really not going to let this drop are you?" I ask, resigning myself to whatever these two have in store for me.
"Nope," they both repeat.
"Consider it our way of telling him to go fuck himself," Jess reasons. "Seeing as we can't actually tell him it to his face without getting our heads ripped off."
"Great," I mutter sarcastically before sighing.
I have to admit, I kind of see where they're coming from. It would be pretty damn sweet if Justin realised, even a tiny little bit, that he underestimated me. I'm not the pathetic piece of shit he thinks I am... I'm a person. I'm a fucking person. Fuck him.
When the bell does finally go, indicating the start of first period, Amy says a quick farewell before leaving me and Jess to enter the Biology room together.
Unfortunately, the teacher made a seating plan for this class, meaning Jess is sat on the front row whilst I'm on the third row from the back right next to the wall. Another thing that makes this class so unfortunate for me is that Mr Baldwin, the Biology teacher, is a werewolf, and he treats me like every other member of the Pack does... like an Omega. In other words, he absolutely hates me.
I make my way to my seat and sit down, still wanting to draw as little attention to myself as possible as the rest of the class start to file in, shortly followed by Mr Baldwin. Suddenly, an all too familiar smell fills the classroom and I quickly run a hand through my hair to keep the nerves at bay.
Why the hell couldn't his scent just have gone away when he rejected me? Is it going to fade as the bond does, or am I stuck with it for life?
I watch out of the corner of my eye as he walks past, taking his seat at the back of the class in between Dean and Jack.
The lesson begins with Mr Baldwin talking to us about plant and animal cell structure. He's one of those teachers with the most boringly monotone voices in the world unless he's yelling at or praising you. For me, though, it's usually the former.
Ten minutes into the class and I hear something hit my desk with a soft thud. I look up from the notes I'm taking to see a crumpled up piece of paper sitting on the edge of my textbook. Rolling my eyes, I focus back on my notes.
It's not uncommon for me to get things thrown at me during lessons, and especially not in lessons where the teachers are werewolves who don't give a damn about me.
A second piece of paper hits me on the back of the shoulder and I sigh in annoyance, trying to keep my focus on the lesson.
When the third ball of paper hits me in the back of the head, though, I finally lose my patience. Turning around to find out whoever the paper-throwing culprit is, I'm unsurprised to see that it's Justin.
Glancing at his two friends, who are also watching me, I know that whatever he's trying to accomplish cannot be good.
'What?' I mouth at him, expecting some form of snarky comment to leave his mouth.
I am surprised, however, when he keeps his mouth shut and scribbles something down on a scrap piece of paper that's yet to be scrunched up and thrown, holding it up for me to read.
'We need to talk,' is all it says.
My eyes skim the words a couple of times to make sure I'm reading them right before I look back up at his face.
I really want nothing more than to just tell him right here and now to piss off but, of course, I can't.
'When?' I mouth back.
He quickly writes something underneath his first sentence before lifting it back up for me to read.
'The forest at the beginning of lunch.'
I sigh to myself, knowing that I can't exactly defy the future Alpha in front of his friends and not suffer the consequences.
'Fine,' is all I reply.
"Miss Jacobs, is there a problem?" Mr Baldwin questions loudly, causing the entire of the class's attention to snap to me.
I quickly spin back around to face the front and ignore all the eyes that are now focussed in my direction.
"No, Sir," I reply, mentally cursing Justin for this.
"I see. Well then I'm sure you won't mind spending your break explaining to me why you feel it appropriate to be talking whilst I am," he says.
"Yes, Sir," I reply, casting my eyes back down to my notes.
God, what an ass! Does he not see that I was talking to the Alpha's son? Of course he does! Loads of people are talking to each other, and yet he just has to go and pick on me, the little Omega, doesn't he? Ugh, great! So now I have to spend my twenty minute break being degraded by my bloody teacher...
I turn back around to glare at Justin, not caring that I'm basically disrespecting him in front of two of his friends. This is so his fault!
When he notices my glare, he simply shrugs, even having the audacity to look slightly amused.
Asshole.
I turn back around again, shaking my head slightly as I continue on with the rest of my work.
***
When lunch finally does come around, I am not exactly in the greatest of moods.
I trudge towards the border of the forest, still fuming at the fact that I had to spend my entire break time being dissed by a bloody teacher who can't stand me and would rather me just leave the pack altogether.
Just as I reach the first few trees, I immediately feel someone grab my arm and drag me into the cover of the forest, completely secluding us from the open view of anyone passing by.
Then, I'm stood facing not only Justin, but Dean as well.
My defences instantly shoot up as I yank my arm free from Justin's grip and cross my arms over my chest.
"Look," he says irritably, his eyes briefly glancing down to my bare legs as he runs a hand through his messily styled sandy blonde hair. "We're here to be neutral, alright?"
I silently scoff at that, not believing that he actually has it in him to be neutral, and slowly unfold my arms and let them relax at my sides.
His delicious scent is already putting me on edge, and I just can't wait to get whatever the hell this is over and done with so I can go and find Amy and Jess.
"What do you want?" I sigh.
"There've been some recent rogue sightings around the area," he informs me.
Whatever the hell I was expecting him to say, it definitely wasn't that.
Omega's don't usually get informed of pack business, that's why I always have to find everything out from Jess or Amy... so why the hell is he telling me this?
"And you're telling me this because...?" I ask, not understanding what's going on at all.
There's a fairly long pause before he answers.
"We need someone who knows the forest well."
That's when it clicks.
He's asking me for help!
The Alpha's are actually asking an Omega for help!
I know I can't exactly decline, Justin could probably get away with breaking my nose just to get me to cooperate and the only people who might object would be the Harbour's, but seriously?
My predestined mate, who literally rejected me yesterday, is now asking for my help?!
What the hell am I supposed to do with that?
"What exactly would I have to do?" I ask.
"You'd have to inform us on the unclaimed land around the area, and you'd have to come with us out on searches and hunts for when we have to venture out from claimed territory," he explains.
"Fine," I sigh, hating the idea of being anywhere near a rouge but knowing that I have no choice in the matter.
If the Alpha's want me going, I go.
"There's a meeting at my house tonight that you need to be at, we'll be talking over plans then," he tells me.
"What time?"
"Seven."
"Okay..." I say reluctantly, not exactly liking the idea of going to the Alpha house and having a meeting with a bunch of people who think I'm worthless and hate my guts.
With that, he and Dean leave me standing here in the forest and head back to school.
Great, this is not going to be fun...
