Chapter 37 – I'm so confused right now.
Lucy's POV
After a few more hours of helplessly waiting around doing nothing, the sound of keys in the door sounds again, and every single person in the room tenses. Nobody's come for us since Devlin came back, we haven't even heard a peep from the guards outside, so nobody knows what to expect when that door opens. What none of us seem to expect, however, is the sight of Beck entering the room, looking to be in even worse condition than Devlin.
Holy shit, he literally looks ready to collapse.
He doesn't seem to dwell too much on his injuries, though, as he quickly darts a look back outside before closing the door behind him.
Beck is on a mission.
"Jesus," Justin whispers in shock when Beck's turned properly to look at us, allowing us a head-on view of the damage done to him. He's covered in scrapes and gashes, his clothes covered in blood despite surprisingly still being intact. His face is bruised, his left cheek swelling, and he's obviously hurt his leg from the way he doesn't put any pressure on it whilst standing.
Who's done this to him? Why? I don't understand...
"We need to get the fuck out of here," is all says, his eyes glancing to the window quickly before moving back to Justin.
He hasn't looked at me once so far and all I can think are two painful words that rip through me like a tornado – he lied.
All this time... he's been lying! About everything!
"Dude, you won't see me arguing," Justin says, regarding him warily, distrust radiating off him like heat. "But you can fuck right off if you think you're coming with us."
"Come on, man, we don't have time for this," Beck replies, his frustration clear as he sighs and runs a hand through his hair. "I will answer and damn questions you have on the way but, right now, we need to move."
"And why the hell should we trust you?" Dean speaks up, his glare shooting daggers towards Beck. "For all we know it could be a trap. How are we supposed to believe that you're not working with the rogues?"
"You really think I'd have this if I was working with the rogues?" Beck asks, lifting up his black T-shirt to show multiple gashes running in all different directions across his stomach.
He's bleeding, a lot, but you couldn't really tell through his T-shirt. Now, though, we get a much better look at the extent of his injuries... and it does not look good.
"Jesus Christ, man..." Devlin says, the horror in his voice and expression telling me that he knows exactly what Beck has been going through since we were brought here.
I don't know whether to be sick or cry; I'm so confused right now.
"Believe me now?" Beck sighs, letting his T-shirt drop back down to hide the cuts, and nobody answers.
Nobody seems to know how to answer.
"David, we really don't have time for this," Beck then says, deciding that it'll be more effective to appeal to the alpha instead of the group as a whole. "Kailen's called a meeting for all of the rogues to attend, including the guards, so right now it's free sailing. I don't know what it's about and I don't want to know because I can tell you now that it won't bode well for us but, most importantly, I don't know how long it'll last."
David takes a minute to think things through before seemingly coming to a decision.
"Devlin, what do you think?" he asks, seeking advice from the only ex-rogue in the group, apart from possibly Beck.
"I say he's on our side. You don't get marks like that without committing the most severe act of treachery against the rogues. Even I didn't get it that bad," Devlin replies without hesitation.
"Okay," David nods, turning back to Beck. "Do you know where the others are?"
"Yeah, they're in a cell on the other side of camp," Beck explains.
"Can we get them out?"
Beck quickly holds up a set of keys that are all attached by a fraying piece of twine.
"Yeah, we can get them out, but we'll have to be fast," he replies.
"Okay, what's the plan?"
"I think we should split up. The less people there are sneaking about the camp, the easier it'll be to stay hidden. Devlin and I know the camp, it'll be easier for us to get there unnoticed, and I doubt they'll listen to us without their Alpha," Beck says, clearly having thought this through quite a bit. "Everyone else should head out of the forbidden land and we can all meet back up at the cave."
"Hold up," Justin says, clearly not liking this idea. "You want us to head off out of the camp whilst you and Devlin take my dad further into the camp to free everyone else? No way, dude. I don't care what you say, I don't trust you and I never really have, we're not splitting up."
"So, what," Beck replies, his irritation clear. "You're suggesting we all go? No way. There's only one person in this room that Kailen is truly after and we both know it sure as hell ain't you, Justin. We need to get the others out but we also need to make sure that Lucy is as far away from this place as possible when he finds out you've gone."
As he says this he still doesn't look at me.
There's a noticeable silence as people think over what's just been said.
"Do you know what they have planned for us?" Amy eventually asks.
"I have an idea," Beck replies with a sigh. "All I know for sure is that Lucy wouldn't be the first to go, he'd take out those she cares about first. It's the way Kailen's always worked."
"All the more reason for you to go back to the cave," David says, agreeing with Beck much to Justin's obvious annoyance. "Justin, I need you and Lucy to make sure everyone gets back safely."
"Okay," Justin sighs, seemingly coming to the conclusion that this is an argument he won't be winning anytime soon, especially as we're under a time limit. "Just... be careful."
"You too," David replies, putting an end to the entire conversation.
Within seconds we're quietly filing out of the door, Justin and I being the last ones out as I trail carefully behind him, praying that the rogues haven't finished their meeting yet.
Just as I'm about to walk through the doorway, however, a hand on my arm pulls me to a stop. It's Beck. He's standing just outside the door, leaning against the wall with his usual Beck-like calmness despite being in obvious pain.
"Don't hate me," he murmurs quiet enough so that only I can hear, his eyes meeting mine as I move to pull away.
I'm so confused right now! I don't even know what I'm supposed to be thinking or feeling. I know he's helping us now, at least I hope he is, but his betrayal cuts deep. I don't care if he's a rogue or not, but for the entire time I knew him he knew that I was constantly asking myself who ripped apart my family and why, and he knew! The entire time he knew it all, he just never told me.
"You lied," I replied, my voice low and steady as I successfully pull my arm out of his grip. "You lied to me."
"I know," he says, his voice taking on a slight hint of urgency when he realises I haven't forgiven him. "I know. Let me make it up to you." He reaches for my arm again but I pull away before he makes contact.
"Just get them out safe, Beck," I sigh before walking away, over to where Justin and the others stand waiting.
"You okay?" Justin asks, quickly glancing at Beck before looking back at me.
"Yeah," I try to assure him. "Let's just get out of here in one piece, yeah?"
"Now that sounds like a plan," he agrees with a smile.
***
Once we've split up into our designated groups Beck, Devlin and David all head off in search of the others, leaving us to make our way as carefully and quietly as we can out of the forbidden land. We decide to stay in human form until we reach the end of the forbidden territory so that it's easier to spot hunter traps as we go. We don't particularly talk much but it seems to be an unspoken rule that I stay close to Justin and Amy stays close to Dean. Never in my life have I felt more like a Luna with her Alpha, Beta and the Beta's mate than I do right now, and it's kind of unsettling if I'm perfectly honest.
Jess sticks close to my other side, and I can tell that her head's not with her right now, which is understandable considering her predestined mate is all the way back at the camp in God knows what danger.
The second we hit the border of the forbidden land Justin and Dean split off one way and Jess, Amy and I split off in another to go change. Once in our wolf forms, we meet back up and then everyone follows my lead back to Beck's cave where we were told to wait for everyone else.
It doesn't take us too long before we hear the familiar sound of the running stream, so we split back off to change back before all taking a seat on the floor next to the stream.
"How long do you think they'll be?" Jess asks nervously, her knee bouncing impatiently as she sits cross-legged on the ground.
"I don't know," I reply. "We don't know how big the camp actually is so it might take them a while to reach the others."
"Let's give them another half hour before really starting to panic," Amy suggests. "I'm sure they're fine."
"What if they're not?" Jess then asks.
"They will be," I try to assure her, not quite sure whether I should be building her hopes up or preparing her for the worst.
"That's if Beck decides to stick to his end of the deal," Dean adds on, his voice sounding unconvinced.
"Okay, idiot," Amy all but snaps, "you're really not helping right now."
"Sorry," he sighs before we all fall silent again.
In the silence I find myself contemplating what to do about this whole Beck situation. I don't know what's going on and I don't know whether I trust him anymore, and the only way I'm going to be able to get answers and figure it out is by talking to him.
Ten minutes after the designated half-an-hour-before-freak-out time limit, the sound of footsteps in the distance reaches our ears and we all tense up.
What if it's the rogues? What if something went wrong and the others are already dead? What if-
Our silent speculations are cut short when we see Beck and Devlin emerge from the trees, quickly followed by David and Wendy, before everyone else appears as well.
They're all here. We're all okay!
"You're okay!" Jess all but cries, standing up and practically throwing herself into Devlin's arms before remembering he's injured and quickly apologising. He doesn't seem to mind all that much, though, and I can't help the grin that spreads across my face as I watch the pair of them. If there was nothing going on between them before then there sure as hell will be now.
Justin quickly stands up to go and talk to his dad, most likely to ask him what happened and if everything went as smoothly as we hoped. None of them seem to be injured, though, apart from Beck and Devlin, so my guess is the meeting was still in full swing when they reached the other cell.
We stand around for a few more minutes before everyone decides that it's time to head home, only I don't want to go home just yet. I still need to talk to Beck; I want answers.
"I'm going to stay here for a while," I announce, immediately gaining everyone's attention, and from the corner of my eye I see Beck tense slightly.
"No way," Justin disagrees straight away. "I'm not letting you out of my sight, the rogues could come sniffing around any second."
"Exactly," I say, trying to find a way to convince him. I am not leaving here without talking to Beck. "They'll be expecting me to be within Pack territory so they won't know where I am. Besides, I'm not staying long so if they do eventually come through here then I'll have left by then."
"I don't like it," he replies, shaking his head.
"Look, I have my phone on me so I can just call if I run into any trouble. I'll be an hour or two tops. Please, Justin," I sigh.
After a few more minutes of standing here arguing, he eventually gives up and heads home with the others. Beck and I stand there watching them retreat before I eventually turn around and, without a word or single glance towards him, head into the cave. He silently follows behind, obviously aware that this is not going to be an easy conversation.
It's time for some answers.
(Hey guys!!! So I know that this chapter's short and not really that great but I wasn't really sure how else to write it so I hope you like it anyway.
I'm really looking forward to writing the next chapter!!! It's another one of those that I've had planned out from pretty much the beginning so I hope you're looking forward to reading it as much as I'm looking forward to writing it :D
Now I know that it took a while to update this chapter and I'm sorry about that but I have had the most hectic/AMAZING week in the history of ever and haven't really had much time to write. My week kind of went like this:
Monday: CONCERT!!! [Which consisted of me not getting home until midnight]
Tuesday: MY LAST EXAM!!! [Which I was completely shattered for due to the concert but I think it went well :) So, yeah, I'VE OFFICIALLY FINISHED MY AS YEAR OF A LEVELS AND AM NOW DONE WITH EXAMS!!! I just really hope I've done enough to pass]
Wednesday: CONCERT!!! [Yes, I went to see the same two bands again which were 'Young Guns' and 'Nothing But Thieves' and took my friend as well this time. It was the best night ever!!!]
Thursday: TRAVELLING BACK FROM THE CONCERT [We stayed at my grandmas Wednesday night and then had to drive four hours to get home]
Friday: WENT TO THE CINEMA TO SEE INSIDIOUS 3: [It was great! I went with two of my friends and we were freaking out the entire time haha]
Saturday: SLEEP: [I basically stayed in bed until four because I was tired haha]
Sunday/Today: IT'S MY BROTHER'S BIRTHDAY!
So... yeah, that's pretty much been my week. It's been epic :D The concerts were amazzzzing!!! Also, now that I've done my last exam I can write more as I promised in previous chapters :)
I have absolutely no doubt that I'll finish this book before the end of summer, which will be sad but also awesome as it'll be the first book I've ever finished writing :D I think in total there are somewhere between 5 and 10 more parts to write before I officially can say that OMEGA is finished. As you already know I have it all planned out right up until the end and there will be 45 chapters in total :)
Anywho, I think that's pretty much all I have to say except thanks for reading!!! If you like the chapter/story then don't forget to Vote/Comment/Follow/Add, thanks!!! Until next time... byee!!!)
