Welcome to Olympus! We're so happy you found us and we hope you'll continue your writing journey with us. But perhaps we should tell you a bit more about ourselves before we carry on. Our community consists of a group writers that communicate and help each other through our Discord server. We host many activities on our servers.

One of the main features of our writing community is the fact that we resemble a camp of sorts. There are different houses, nine to be exact, one for each of the Nine Muses of Greek Mythology. The Nine Muses were the creators of art and music as well as literature, math, and science in some cases. Writers are artists. We create fictional worlds and stories with our words, so it's only fitting that the houses are named after the Nine Muses.

The Houses and some more information. Note that we tried to match genres to the muses as best we could.

House Clio: Clio is the Muse that discovered history and guitar. As such the genre that falls under House Clio is Historical Fiction.

House Euterpe: Euterpe discovered several musical instruments, courses and dialectic. The writers in this house write the following genres:

-General Fiction (i.e. Young Adult, New Adult, or Adult)

House Thalia: Thalia was the protector of comedy. She discovered comedy, geometry, architectural science and agriculture. Writers in House Thalia tend to write the following genres:

House Melpomene: Melpomene is the protector of tragedy. She also invented tragedy and rhetoric speech. Writers of the following genres can be found in House Melpomene:

House Terpsichore: Terpsichore was the protector of dance and invented dances, the harp, and education. Any writers of the following genres can be found in House Terpsichore:

House Erato: Erato is the protector of weddings, love, and love poetry. Any writers of the following genres can be found in House Erato:

House Polymnia: Polymnia was the protector of divine hymns and mimic art and she also invented geometry and grammar. Writers in this house write the following genres:

House Ourania: Ourania was the protector of celestial objects and stars. Writers in this house write stories in the following genres:

-Urban Fantasy
-Magical Realism

House Calliope: Calliope was the protector of heroic poems and rhetoric. Writers in this house write stories in the following genres:
-Adventure
-Action
-High Fantasy
-Forms of Fantasy that are not Urban Fantasy or Magical Realism

House Sappho: Sappho was a poet that was referred to as the tenth Muse by Plato. This house is home to our readers and graphic designers. Interested in joining this house? Check out the pages about the Graces (Graphic Designers) and the Anemoi (Beta Readers).

Activities
Activities are run by our House Leaders and include things like writing games, writing sprints, and more. The purpose of these activities is to promote creativity and imagination. Participation in these activities is voluntary and you can participate as much or as little as you like.

Open Chat Rooms
We are all about promoting a positive environment for our members and that means having chat rooms that allow you to talk to your fellow authors. There are even areas where you can ask for help if you're stuck on something or want to bounce an idea off someone else.

The Resources
As a writing community, we have numerous resources on our platform, including, but not limited to an on site generator for names, place, titles, story ideas, and land names and a thesaurus/dictionary/rhyming resource.

The Rules
There are rules since we do want to promote a positive space for our members. The rules are as follows:

1. Be respectful! This is an LGBTQ2+ friendly community, so please be respectful. Hate speech or bullying or any kind will not be tolerated by the Muses (House Leaders) or Olympians (Admins).

2. No harassment. Our House Leaders (the Muses) and admin team (the Olympians) have zero tolerance for harassment. Let's all be kind to one another.

3. Give constructive criticism ONLY when asked and make sure to be nice about it. This is important. We all want to succeed, but let's make sure we're being nice in the way we help each other.

4. No drama in this community please. If there's an issue, please bring it up to a House Leader (one of the Muses) or an Admin (one of the Olympians).

5. To apply: fill out the form in the following chapter. Be sure to add this book to a public reading list as well and follow the account of the Olympus Writing Group.

6. There is a common genre book sharing area in our community and you're welcome to share your story there, but remember that it is one post per member per genre.

7. Make sure you read the pins in the server channels. They contain information that will help you

8. No house switching unless the circumstances are exceptional. Speak to a Muse or an Olympian for clarification if you feel the need to switch houses.
