In the Air is a Mortal Engines fan-duology set in the era of Thunder City.

Author's Note

I haven't done proper fanfiction in years, since deciding to turn my old content as actual books during the 2020 Pandemic. But I'm back now... for a little while. This is just a side thing to do on while working on my actual projects.

As mentioned, this is a Mortal Engines fanfiction. I originally read book one in 2018 when the Peter Jackson film was initially released. When people said it was bad (I really wanted to see the film back then), I abandoned all hopes of finishing the series. In 2021, I finally watched the film (as it was streaming on a service I had) and thought it was a good, not great. In 2023, I read the quartet via audiobook (as help for the first version of These Alien Dragons) and subsequently got sucked into the series the same way I did with Wings of Fire back in 2013.

I created several concepts for fan-characters early in 2024 (while doing the concepts of The Darkling Plain), and decided to place them between the eras of Thunder City and Mortal Engines. (According to the series' lore, this time period is known as "the Golden Age of Traction". Seems pretty fitting, as we all know what happens after this (if you've read the books).)

So, without further ado, let's dive into the Traction Era, shall we?

Book One: In the Air

In the Air (elementally known as "Book One: Sky") is the first book of Mortal Engines: In the Air.

Premise

An old aviator, about to retire, is dragged into the world of the Sky for one last time. The events that unfold will determine the entire course of the future.

Book Two

Book Two (elementally known as "Book Two: Stars") is the second/final book of Mortal Engines: In the Air.
