Chapter 3: College Road Trip
Percy POV
"Have you heard anything from Adrien and Marinette yet?" Annabeth asked, stretching her arms.
"Not yet." I said, checking my phone for the tenth time in the past two hours. "They're probably just experiencing jetlag. They did just fly here from Paris with Alya and Nino. Texting me probably just left their minds."
"I know, but still. I worry." Annabeth admitted. "Marinette's been complaining that everyone hasn't been letting her fight lately, and she's kinda ticked about it."
"I can imagine." I said, looking around our hotel room.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Leo and Calypso were there, arms crossed. "What in the name of Zeus is taking you guys so long? We were supposed to meet outside twenty minutes ago!"
I froze. That's right. It was Jason's idea to personally deliver Annabeth and me to Camp Jupiter to start college, and Leo, Piper, Hazel and Frank (who've been staying at Camp Half-Blood all summer) decided to tag along, forcing Nico, Will, and Calypso to come with. The plan was to have Marinette or Adrien tell us where they ended up, then come and visit them before we left for California. Unfortunately, they haven't texted yet. "Sorry Leo. We've been waiting for Marinette and Adrien to text us."
Calypso's hard expression softened. "You really miss them, don't you?"
"Of course we do!" Annabeth retorted. "Marinette, she's basically my little sister. I wanna see my sister again before I leave for college!"
"Same goes for Adrien!" I said as my phone rang.
I quickly answered. "Hello?"
"Hey Percy." Adrien said on the other line. "Sorry I forgot to call. Jetlag."
"No dude. It's fine." I said, mouthing Adrien to Annabeth. She mouthed back Hi! "Annabeth says hi."
"Well tell Annabeth I say hi back."
"I will. Anyway, where'd you, Marinette, Alya, and Nino end up?"
"Amity Park, Minnesota. It's near Wisconsin."
"Noted. How's America treating you?"
"Pretty well. My host family is pretty nice. They let me eat hot dogs."
"Well, I would assume so." I lowered my breath. Annabeth didn't exactly know about Mr. Agreste's trial, and Adrien intended for me to keep it that way. "How are you doing?"
"About my father's trial?" Adrien asked, also lowering his voice. "Good, I guess. Marinette has to serve as a witness while she's Ladybug since that's who he technically stabbed. It kinda feels like we decided to flee the country or something like that. I'm still living with Nino and his folks, even though I feel like I'm a burden to them and such."
"Adrien, you're not a burden." I quietly chided, practically seeing Annabeth's head tilt behind me.
"I know, but it doesn't make me feel any less worthless."
"Look," I said loudly. "Leo is giving me a strange look, so I have to go. Hold in there, okay? Enjoy your first day of school, make friends outside of your host family, but don't leave your other friends alone because if you do, I will come to Minnesota and punch the living daylights out of you, ya hear?"
"I get it Dad." I could almost hear Adrien's eyes roll. "I gotta go. Be careful, okay Percy?"
"I get it. Talk to you later, okay Adrien?"
"Okay. Bye Percy."
"Bye." I hung up the phone as Annabeth gave me a strange look.
"What was with the lowering of your voice?"
"Nothing important." I said, stuffing my hands in my pockets. "Anyway, they wound up in Amity Park, Minnesota. Think we can visit them Leo?"
"Sounds probable." He said, chucking his thumb down the hall. "If you guys hurry up."
"We're working on it. Calm your pegasai." I said, grabbing my bags as Annabeth grabbed hers and we walked out.
"Here they are!" Jason complained as we entered the van he was driving thanks to his new driver's license.
"Sorry." I apologized. "We were waiting for any sign of life from Marinette and Adrien. Adrien called while we were up there."
Piper turned around. "How's Adrien doing?"
The only other person in our group I could talk to Adrien about was Piper. Being his earliest childhood friend, Adrien obviously told Piper about what's been going on. Plus, she was my translator since she could understand Adrien better when he went into rapid fire French while he panics.
"He's good. Doesn't exactly know how to feel."
"I wish I could talk to him in person instead of by text." Piper grumbled.
"Which reminds me... Jason! We're making a pit stop!"
"Where?"
"Amity Falls, Minnesota. That's where Adrien and Marinette ended up."
"Come on Jason! Can we go? Please!?" Piper begged.
"Okay, okay. We're going." Jason said, sighing. "It's gonna take a couple days though. We're in North Carolina, and they're near Wisconsin. It's gonna take us a couple days at least to get there, and another day to track them down."
"I know." I said, crossing my arms. "But it's worth it."
"Okay then. Give me two minutes to tell the other car with Frank driving. And we're set."
I'm honestly not exactly sure what happened after that, or how long it was after that since I feel back asleep shortly after, but I do know that when I woke up next, our car was flipped over and group of kids were coming towards us.
"Hey, what's going on?" One of the kids asked.
"Okay!" A girl with long brown hair stepped in front of the car. "Who flipped these two cars over?"
"Don't look at me!" Said one kid, putting his hands in the air.
"I wasn't looking at you Ostin." The girl chided. "You don't have powers, remember?"
"I know, but you know my HQ!" The boy, Austin or something, complained. "I could've made an electric device to screw with these cars!"
One of the other boys put an arm around Austin. "Ostin, you're smart, but not that smart."
"Shut up Jack!"
Me, being closest to a window, glanced over at the other car. Everyone was sprawled out on the ground. I looked behind me. Everyone looked safe, but unconscious.
Suddenly, a girl with long blonde hair came over to my car and saw that I was awake. "Hey! Someone's awake!"
A ripe smelling boy came closer. "He doesn't look so good. He has this giant gash on his forehead and his arm's bruised pretty badly!"
"I can't reach him from under there!" Yelled this Chinese girl. She directed this last part at me. "I know it hurts, but do you think you can get out of there?"
"What... about... my friends?" I asked, concerned. It felt like I broke a couple bones in my ribcage.
"We'll help them, but for the moment, it's safer if they're passed out. You're awake, so we can help you. Now, can you get out?"
I nodded as I grabbed my backpack, knowing I had ambrosia in it, and crawled out from under the van.
Sorry this took so long!!!!!
