Chapter 2: Adjusting
Marinette POV
"This is your house?" I asked Sam as we walked in through the front door.
"Yup. This is the Manson Prison, where you will be spending the next school year." Sam said sarcastically.
"Oh Sam, be nice!" A woman, who I assumed was her mother, chided. "You must be Marinette, right?"
I nodded.
"Hello dear. I'm Pam, and my husband's name is Jeremy. Welcome!"
"Thank you." I said politely.
"Well," Jeremy said. "We're going out for French food if you two would like to join us."
"No thanks Dad. I would rather eat meat then eat French food." Sam turned towards me. "No offense Marinette. It's just that you French people eat weird food."
"None taken. And actually, I would like to stay here and possibly eat American food since I've been living off of French food my entire life."
Pam was taken a back for a moment. "Oh. Right. Sorry. Come on Jeremy."
Jeremy and Pam walked out the door as Sam just looked at me. Once they were out, Sam cheered. "That was amazing! I can't believe you actually said all that to my parents!"
"Why? Do they not like American food or something?"
"They don't like Nasty Burger, a burger place that's around here. They have tofu burgers there, so it's the only reason I go with Danny and Tucker."
"What's Nasty Burger? We don't have that in Paris."
"I will take you there one day after school. It is decided."
I laughed. "You wanna order pizza or something?"
"Good plan."
I smiled. "So... Are your parents always like that?"
"Yeah. I call it 'Rich Person Disease', also known as RPD."
I rolled my eyes. "Well, they could be worse. They could just avoid you."
"But they try to change everything about me. They try to get me to wear pink!" Sam made a disgusted face.
"I'm guessing that you don't like pink?"
"I like the singer, but not the color. It's too... Girly."
"Yeah, I get it." I looked down at my jeans and red sweater with black polka dots. "I kinda stopped wearing pink last year after... Something happened."
Realization settled across Sam's face. "That's when you, Adrien, Alya, Nino, Chloé, and those two American students you hosted last year got trapped in the bakery, right?"
Right. That's what I told her. The bakery got covered in debris, and all of us were trapped there. "Yeah. That's when. I'm just thankful that Ladybug and Chat Noir saved us with the help of Volpina, Jade Turtle, and Queen Bee."
"So when did you and Adrien become a thing?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, Danny and I became a thing the day the earth went tangible. When did you and Adrien become a thing?"
"Well... We aren't. Not technically anyway. We just a heck of a lot closer while we were trapped."
"Close enough that Alya teases you two about being a married couple and that he'll kiss you on the forehead?"
"Basically." I looked down at my black and red bag I made, thinking of Tikki. She hasn't had any cookies since yesterday, and she might be hungry.
In fact, I haven't been giving her a lot of cookies lately since Alya, Nino, and Adrien aren't letting my help when someone's robbing a bank. And when natural akumas happen, they let me transform, but I'm not allowed to do anything until I can purify it. Chloé is the only one who seems to think that I've healed enough from my stab wound to actually help out.
"Hey Sam, do you happen to have any chocolate chip cookies around here?"
"Unfortunately, no. My parents think that they're peasant food."
"But they're delicious peasant food." I sighed. "Okay, where's the kitchen."
"Why?"
"Sam, I'm the daughter of two bakers. I basically live off of cookies. I'm not going to survive unless I have cookies."
"You're actually going to make cookies?"
"Yeah."
Sam laughed. "You are now my best female friend. Come on!"
Adrien POV
"Mom! We're home!" Danny yelled as we walked inside the house.
A small woman with red hair and blue eyes poked her head out of the kitchen. "You must be Adrien. I'm Danny's mother, but you can call me Maddie."
"Nice to meet you." I said, looking at the kitchen. Flour and baking soda was all over the place. "Need any help cleaning up?"
"Oh, that's sweet of you dear, but I got this. Danny, why don't you go introduce Adrien to Jazz and Dani?"
"Okay." Danny said without complaint as he grabbed one of my bags. "You'll be staying in the guest room. It's across the hall from me and in between Dani, my twin sister, and Jazz, my older sister who goes to a local college around here."
Danny went around the corner as he knocked on the door next to mine. "Dani! Open up! Adrien's here!"
The door opened to reveal a girl slightly shorter than Danny who had black hair and blue eyes, styled similarly to Danny's. "Oh hi. You must be Adrien. I'm Dani, Danny's twin sister. Can I go back to my homework now?"
Danny sighed heavily. "Go ahead."
"Children! Dinner's ready!" Maddie yelled from the kitchen.
"Or not. Come on guys."
A girl with straight red hair came out and looked at me. "You're that exchange student from France we're hosting, right?"
"Yeah. Adrien."
"Nice to meet you. I'm Jazz, Danny and Dani's older sister. "
I smiled as the four of us made our way downstairs. I sat in between Dani and Jack as Maddie gave me two meat sticks. "Um... what are these?"
"Have you never had hot dogs before dear?" Maddie asked.
"Hot... dogs?" I tilted my head as I asked this question.
"Mom, take that as a no." Danny said, handing me a bag of thin potatoes.
"What are these?"
"Do you guys not have potatoe chips in France?" Dani asked, confused.
"We probably do, but I'm not allowed to eat them."
"Why not?"
"My father is a fashion designer and I have to model for him."
Danny sighed. "That's unfortunate. I swear on my life that I will get you to act like a normal teenage boy by the end of this school year."
I smiled. "I look forward to that."
