Chapter 1: Gut Feeling
(A/N: Italics: Marinette
Bold: Adrien
Bold and Italics: Both)
A few months before...
Hey you, star I'm wishing on. Light up my world when things are wrong. Wanna tell you, but I just trip over my words. I'm falling hard, is love supposed to hurt? I try to get over this crush, under your spell, all I do is blush. But with you I feel such a rush, and I can't get enough! Caught myself thinking about you, when you smile I don't know what to do. It's a shame that you're perfect for me, imagine how could this be? Cause I'm right beside you baby, I wish that you could see, just how much I care about you, how much you mean to me. But I'm way to shy to tell you the truth, I'll keep jumping cars for now, you're just my favorite daydream!
Hey you, the angels say to me, don't you know you're my everything? I pray, one day, I won't have to hide, all the feelings that I'm keeping inside. Trying to be calm and be cool, to figure out, just what I mean to you. Wondering about the times way back, I see you happy, and I see you mad. Sad, defeated, like no one cares. Wish that you could see, I'll always be there. Cause I'm right beside you baby, I'll wish that you could see, just how much I care about you, how much you mean to me. But I'm way to shy to tell you the truth, I'll keep jumping cars for now, you're just my favorite daydream.
How can someone you know so well, be such a mystery? Think of all the bad and good, we've been through, I'll know how you think about me! Cause I'm right beside you baby, I'll wish that you could see, just how much I care about you, how much you mean to me. But I'm way to shy to tell you the truth, will I be brave enough to tell you? But no matter what, you're just my favorite daydream.
"YEAH!" Marinette yelled as she finished singing with Adrien.
"WE DID IT!"
"YEAH WE DID!" The two stuck out their hands. "POUND IT!"
"Ugh." Marinette collapsed on the ground, laying face first on a beanbag. She checked her phone. "Only two more hours until we leave for America!"
"And we have to be at the airport in an hour!" Adrien collapsed next to her. The two turned to lay on their backs as they stared up at the ceiling. Above them was Marinette's picture collage, featuring all the goofy pictures that they took with Chloé, Alya, Nino, Percy, and Annabeth in the past year. The one in the center, however, was Marinette's favorite. It was before she knew that Adrien was Chat Noir, and it was the two of them sitting on the Eiffel Tower during the night, them giving each other bunny ears as a joke.
Adrien smiled. "You still have that picture?"
"Of course I do. I wanted that to be our little secret up here, on the wall. I mean, the only other people who know that this wall exists besides you, me, Tikki, and Plagg, is Annabeth, and she's in America. In fact, she's the one who told me to put this picture up there."
"Really?"
"Yeah. You know, it's a funny picture, in it's own way I mean. We were different back then."
"And that's a bad thing?"
"No, I'm just saying, we were just so innocent back then. We didn't know what was going to happen."
"Good point." Adrien laughed as he pointed to another picture on the ceiling. It was a picture of Marinette on Adrien's shoulders, reaching for a bag of green apple gummy rings. "Honestly, that one's my favorite."
"Why that one?"
"Because it was the last day that Percy and Annabeth were in Paris. We went to a candy store and no one could reach that candy, but we all wanted it. It felt nice to have you on my shoulders."
"Well, I do like being tall." Marinette agreed as the two laughed.
"Do you remember what happened next?"
Marinette nodded. "Yeah. The guy who ran the shop came up to us and said 'Kids, I could've gotten that down for you with my step stool. You didn't have to get on that young man's shoulders!' then he just gave us the candy and four bars of chocolate for free. We all walked out of there laughing."
"Yeah." Marinette scooted in next to Adrien as he sighed.
Marinette thought back to the night before, when Chloé threw a going away party for the four of them. She still remembered the conversation she had with Chloé when she got there.
Chloé shifted her weight onto her different feet. "Mari, can you promise me one thing?"
Marinette nodded. "Sure. What's up?"
"Adrien, he's never been out of country before. At least, not without his dad. With the drama still going on with his dad's trial, people trying to get an interview from him, I just feel like he's basically fleeing the country, you know?"
Marinette nodded. "In a way, I guess all four of us are fleeing the country. I mean, it's almost been a year since it happened. It traumatized all of us, Nino more than me, Adrien, and Alya combined because he knew about it the entire time and couldn't do a thing about it. I guess we all just don't want to be here on the anniversary."
Chloé looked worried. "How are you doing? Is your stomach still hurting?"
Marinette sighed. "Not right now. I have a feeling it'll be hurting from phantom pains while I'm there though."
Chloé nodded. Then, she sighed. "Just take care of Adrien for me, okay? Don't make him lose hope so quickly."
"How am I supposed to protect him if he won't even let me help when a robber comes?"
"To be honest, I think you can look after yourself. Nino, Alya, and Adrien are just scared that you'll get hurt again."
"I know, but still. I'm strong enough to look after myself. That just happened one time." Marinette complained.
"I know." Chloé agreed. "Nath will help me look after Paris, just protect everyone Mari, okay? I don't want anyone getting hurt when I'm not there, you hear?"
Marinette nodded as she hugged Chloé. "Understood. I think this is the first time I've ever said this, but I'm going to miss you Chloé."
"I'm gonna miss you too. Just... Be careful Mari."
Chloé's words still echoed in Marinette's ears.
Just... Be careful Mari.
Marinette smiled as she remembered what happened after the party ended.
"Look at that sky!" Adrien exclaimed as he stared up at the sky from Marinette's balcony.
"Yeah." Marinette agreed. "We got so busy fighting akumas sometimes that we just forgot to stop and watch the stars, you know?"
"Yeah. I get what you mean." Adrien traced his fingers along the stars, trying to make some kind of shape in the sky. "You think the sky looks this pretty in America?"
"I don't know. Guess we'll find out." Marinette scooted closer to Adrien.
"What city are we going to again?"
"Amity Park. I think it's somewhere near Wisconsin."
Adrien smiled softly. "That's where my mom's from."
Marinette broke her gaze from the stars, looking at Adrien's face as Adrien did the same. "You gonna be okay?"
"I'll be fine." Adrien reassured her. "Tomorrow, everything changes, doesn't it?"
"I think it does, whether it's for better or worse, we don't know."
"I'm gonna miss Paris."
"Same here. I'm gonna miss my parents."
"I'm gonna miss our class."
"At least Alya and Nino are gonna be there with us, so we won't be alone, right?"
Adrien smiled as he kissed Marinette on the lips. "That's my lady, always thinking on the bright side."
The two just laid down on the balcony deck for a few more moments.
Marinette broke the silence. "Well, what are we gonna do now?"
"Wanna just, I don't know, lay here for a while?"
Marinette scooted closer to Adrien. "Good plan."
Soon after, Marinette was quickly asleep.
As Adrien heard her faint snores as he grabbed a blanket and cover the two of them up. He kissed Marinette's forehead. "Night Princess."
"Well, what are we gonna do now?" Marinette broke the silence.
"Wanna just lay here for a while?"
"Good plan." Marinette snuggled closer to Adrien, much like what happened the previous night.
Not even a second after Marinette and Adrien closed their eyes, Alya poked her head out from the trap door. "Hey Mr. and Mrs. Agreste, we're gonna miss our plane!"
Marinette and Adrien sat up as Marinette glared at Alya. "Alya, how many times do we have to tell you, we're not married!"
"You may as well be married!" Nino yelled from downstairs. "You two pretty much act like it!"
"Shut up Nino!" Adrien yelled as he grabbed his suitcase, his backpack, and his bag of emergency cheese for Plagg that he stuffed into his suitcase. "Plagg, you ready to go?"
"Ready!" Plagg bounced up from his spot on Marinette's bed, Tikki right behind him.
"Marinette..." Tikki started to say.
Marinette sighed. "Go ahead Tikki. You can ride with Trixx and the others."
Tikki hugged Marinette's cheek. "Thanks Marinette!"
"You're welcome." Marinette sighed. "Just make sure you move to my bag before we land, okay?"
Tikki nodded as she flew into Alya's bag. Plagg quickly followed.
"Same goes for you Plagg!" Adrien yelled.
"Yes sir!" Plagg yelled back.
"We ready to go?" Nino asked.
"Let's go!"
Danny POV
"Danny, how long do we have to wait here?" Dad asked.
"Another hour at most. Be patient." I said, turning back to my phone.
"You waiting for Adrien to text back?" Sam asked as she slid in next to me.
I nodded as Tucker started playing a game on his PDA. "Hey Tuck, did you get any texts from Nick?"
"Dude, his name is Nino. And yes, I did."
"What'd he say?"
"Last I heard, they were starting their descent."
"Awesome!"
"Are you guys here for those exchange students to?" A voice asked. I looked up to see Valerie standing over us.
"Yeah. You waiting too?"
"Yeah."
"Have you been texting back and forth with your person?"
"Not as much as I should, just don't tell Lancer that!" Valerie shrieked. "I know that this is a replacement grade for last year, but we're never awake at the same time!"
"We know the feeling." Sam said, picking up her phone. "When me and Marinette are texting, it's either when I'm trying to go to sleep and she's wide and awake, or when she's trying to sleep and I'm wide and awake! However, I did manage to learn a couple things about her."
"Like what? All I managed to learn from Alya is that she's super hero obsessed! Literally! She has a blog dedicated to one super hero from Paris named Ladybug!"
"I learned that her parents are bakers. Her uncle is that famous chef from China, Wang Shifu or something like that. She's one of the teens in #5AwkwardTeens. The others coming are part of the original four in the group, and the new member, Chloé or something, is staying in Paris. She likes to design clothes. Her favorite superhero of the ones that are in Paris is Ladybug, but she has a soft spot for Chat Noir. She-"
"How many nights were you texting back and forth?" Tucker asked.
"You have no idea." Sam answered simply.
"Here they come." Valerie said, pointing to a group of four kids walking towards baggage claim.
"Are we sure that's them?" I asked.
"Come on lovebirds, we don't have all day!" Said the girl with ombre hair.
The boy with blonde hair and the girl with dark blue hair groaned in unison.
"And you two say that you aren't married." The boy with headphones teased.
"Because we aren't!" The two said in unison again. The two looked at each other as the girl shouldered her backpack. "We really need to stop doing this."
"Yeah. However, it just means that we're in perfect sync." The blonde boy said.
"Which we always are."
"You read my mind!"
"Of course I did!"
"Yeah." The girl with ombre hair rolled her eyes and pushed her glasses closer to her face to stop them from falling off. "You two totally aren't married."
The boy and girl turned to the ombre haired girl. "Shut up Alya."
"Yeah." Valerie said, waving down her Dad to go with her. "That's them."
"Which means that the other girl is Marinette!" Sam said so cheerfully that it kinda scared me. "I'm gonna go meet her. BRB."
Sam walked to Marinette, all smiles.
I stood next to Tucker. "Who wants to bet that Blondy is Adrien?"
"I'm not taking that bet."
"Why not?"
"Because Nino sent me a picture a couple days back that had their entire group of friends in it. He pointed out which person is which."
"Oh. Should we go get them?"
"Is that them Danny?" Dad asked. I nodded. "Well go get Adrien. We don't have all day! Your mother is making hot dogs for dinner and I don't want her, Jazz, and Dani to eat them all!"
"Got it." I walked up to the blonde kid, who was kissing Marinette on the forehead as she left with Sam.
"See you tomorrow Danny!" Sam said as she practically ran out of the airport.
"Hey! Wait for me Sam!" Marinette yelled, chasing after her.
I awkwardly stood in front of Adrien. "You're Adrien, right?"
Adrien nodded. "You must be Danny."
I nodded as I stuck out my hand. "Nice to meet you dude. Danny Fenton."
Adrien took my hand. "Adrien Agreste."
"Need any help with your bags? My dad wants us to hurry because my mom's making hot dogs."
"I'm good." Adrien said, grabbing all three of his bags.
We walked over to Dad as he smiled. "Hello Adrien. I'm Danny's father, but you can call me Jack."
"Nice to meet you Jack." Adrien said politely.
"Well, shall we get going?" Dad asked. "And Adrien, welcome to America."
I smiled as I felt something in my gut. Something that told me everything was about to change. I glanced over at Adrien, and something told me that he had the same feeling as well.
"Yeah. Seriously. Welcome to America. But just to let you know, this ain't Paris Dorothy."
"I know." Adrien responded. "I just need a fresh start right now."
"Well, not only is this the beginning of a fresh start, this is also the beginning of a new adventure. You ready?"
Adrien nodded. "Let's go. I actually want to see what an American family is like."
Adrien and I walked out of the airport with Dad in front of us, ready to take on this new adventure that was coming at us at full speed.
