Chapter 16: Not So Secure Security Centre
*** Two Weeks Later ***
Usually, we would have been able to fend off all the raids that came our way but now, the dark forces were getting sneaky. For some reason, they were now targeting Unit B, which was the security centre... But why? "What is that sound", groaned Horace, "Is that food falling out of the fridge?". We were all the kitchen, having our weekly day of meals together and so we all heard Horace, as well as the noise he was talking about. I looked over to the fridge in the other room to see it closed, and so it definitely wasn't the fridge that needed attention. I came back and told everyone it wasn't the fridge but then Coco had an idea. "Wait! I think it's coming from the security centre... It's breaking glass".
So the security centre was under attack! But it was day time and the alarms weren't going off. I then also wondered why either Officer Brooklyn or Officer Goodman didn't go out there to see who the assassain was... And so we figured I had to go instead. I didn't want anyone else going, as we didn't to risk anymore kidnappings, Lex, Sandy and Jasmine were already gone. Additionally, I didn't want anyone to distract me if I ended up devising a master plan to get rid of this assassain. I did decide that if I made a ruckus, the assassain might run, so I was going to go out there and sneak up on them, catch them by surprise.
It was only a short walk from the main building over to Unit B but because it was a hot day today, I had to go the long way, where the undercover walkway was so I woudn't get burnt to a crisp by the sun! Going via the undercover walkway had led me to the back end of the Unit B, which is actually where I wanted to be because there was that someone, dressed in all black, jumping in through a broken window. When they were inside the room, that's when the intruder alarm started to go off. "Dang nabbit!", I yelled out "I was hoping I could catch you red handed!". I had a closer look at the masked man and his eyes somewhat resembled Lex's. Maybe that's why the alarms didn't catch him out when he was still outside. The fortress only had an outer alarm for non-recognisable aliases, whereas the alarms inside the security centre would go off at any criminal act, whether it was someone familiar or not... Hence its name, the security centre, to deal with any old nasty folks.
I am now pretty sure that it was Lex who was performing the dirty act. I tried to call out his name but he turned towards me and then got back out the window and ran as fast as he could. There was nothing I could do to catch him now and so I decided to go into the room another way, to see what damage he had done apart from the smashed window. As the alarm was also still going, I had to enter the desk area where Officer Brooklyn and Officer Goodman were just paralysed. "Why aren't you doing anything?!", I called out to them. "Eh, even this stuff is too scary for us... When that alarm goes off!", yelled back Officer Brooklyn over the screeching tones of the alarm. "Well call the real cops then! We've just had someone break in!". I finally reached the alarm switch and managed to turn it off which then left an overly quiet silence afterwards.
"What was dat all about?", wondered Officer Brooklyn. "Seriously, why do you even work in the security centre? It was a criminal...". The Officer Goodman piped in, "Oh a criminal! Maybe just a criminal we couldn't interview". Officer Brooklyn nodded at Officer Goodman in agreement. "Yeah, we work here to interview guys and see if they come through or not. We can't bust the nasty, sneaky criminals outside though". My next question was what we might be able to do to repair the smashed window and then I remembered... Harry and Joseph, they were the fix-it brothers! "Go and get 'em then!", suggested Officer Brooklyn. So off I went, back to Unit A to try and locate the brothers. I went into the library to see them in the lit up area, playing chess with each other. Then all of a sudden, Harry makes a massive ruckus from nowhere. "Aw you beat me man! But 'ey, dat wasn't fair!". And then Joseph would answer, but then Harry would continue with "But dat wasn't fair!". I had no clue what he was complaining about because I wasn't there to watch the entire game unfold... But maybe Harry just didn't like losing in general. Still, there was work to be done on the smashed window and so I politely interrupted. "Go and fix it yourself Josie, I don't wanna know about any of your bloomin' projects anymore!". Well... That's surely got to be an example of a sore loser, coming from Harry. But anyway, Joseph followed me over to the busted window while Harry stayed in the library, stirring over his loss.
