Daggerfang Surfing
"Nira?!" Skandar shouted.
He leapt into action, jumping on top of Triton's back. God, his friend must be suicidal! Eclipse had stood bolt upright, tail flicking nervously. She peered over the edge, revealing Nira, who was still falling.
Nira cheered as she landed right on top of a Daggerfang. She held out her arms, balancing on top of the dragon. It didn't seem to notice her. Maybe it was because of its thick scales, or maybe it was just used to being underneath other dragons when it started to swim underneath the water.
It lifted its mud-brown head momentarily, taking a deep breath from large nostrils. And then it started to slowly swim under the water.
Nira was knee-deep in the water before she realized what was happening, and leapt on top of another. Skandar and Triton hovered next to her.
Skandar whooped before jumping off of his dragon and onto a different Daggerfang. Triton lifted his head in disdain, shaking it slightly.
They were moving downriver quickly, from the swimming of the dragons and the already fast speeds of the water. It was only a matter of minutes before they were beside the town, where residents were watching the migration.
Nira was throughly soaked when she climbed out of the water and onto Eclipse's back. The silver dragon had been soaring beside her, ready to catch her if she fell. Not that she'd be much help if she did fall, because she would have landed right in the jaws of the Daggerfang behind her.
Eclipse glided towards the shore, and Nira slid off of her into the shallow water. The sides of the river were no longer ravine, but muddy beaches. She pulled off her boots, which were swamped with water.
Wisp shook some of the water from his fur, leaving it damp but not sopping. It lay over his bright eyes, giving him a crestfallen appearance, although he was quite happy at the moment.
Nira fell backwards, laying on the muddy beach. She was already such a mess, what would a bit of mud do?
Wisp slid along the slippery ground, clawing his way on top of Nira's chest. His white scales were covered in mud, which was quickly transferring to onto Nira's sky blue shirt.
She sat up, throwing Wisp off balance and into the muck. Eclipse was attempting to keep her scales clean, but she was fighting a losing battle. Her shining, almost reflective scales were covered in a sea of brown.
Skandar slid off of Triton's back. The blue Electronyte was perched on a rock that protruded from the mud. He was intent on staying dry, much more so than Eclipse, who had given up and was rolling around with Wisp.
"Looks like Triton is the only animal on this beach who has a bit of sense in him." Skandar joked.
"I dunno, Wisp is pretty clever..." Nira laughed, pointing over to the small white dragon.
He was completely submerged in mud, splashing gobs of the stuff at Triton, who was calmly deflecting them with his tail. He snorted out a jolt of electricity in annoyance.
"Hey, check it out! The Daggerfangs are heading into the meadow!" Skandar exclaimed, pointing over to the pack of brown dragons.
They were hauling themselves over the muddy beach, some sliding on their earthen-coloured bellies across the slippery surface. They were even more menacing when their full bodies were in view. They were bulky and large, with rather short legs, but long tails. A sharp row of spikes traveled down their backs. Many of them had horns, but out of all of them, one had the largest. And that dragon was Gash.
Nira and Skandar leapt onto their dragons, clearing the beach. In the water, they really didn't notice anything if it was on top of them. But on land, they'd really attack anything that got in their way. Nira even saw one that was locked in fierce combat with a rotting tree. When its enemy was vanquished, the dragon moved on as if nothing had happened.
