Chapter 1

Just what is Lupin doing here?, she asked yourself quietly, as she entered the compartement Harry and his friends were in. The luggage next to him erased that question quickly, effectively taking the frown off of her face. Her gaze landed on Harry, who laid on the floor, waking up from what she suspected was unconsciousness.

"Are you alright Harry?", she kneeled next to him, to help him once he decided to sit up. His groan was enough as a response, that at least assured her he hadn't hurt his head too much. She hoped, at least, tuning out Hermione, Ron and Remus talking about what had happened. Her thoughts went back and forth between the Dementor attack and Lupin's apparent teacher position at Hogwarts. She couldn't care less who would do the lectures on subjects she already knew, but with Remus there, she knew it would at least become interesting. Snape is going to have one blast of a year., she chuckled silently, before she stood up. Their new teacher turned to her at that very moment, asking her for her name. She hid a smile, even if he didn't know it was her. "I'm (Y/n) Dursley, Professor. Harry's cousin, house Slytherin. It's nice to meet you."

Dumbledore was not amused by the presence of Azkaban's usual guards, that much she could tell even from her place in the back. Neither was Snape, who was glaring daggers at the rather calm Marauder from their past, which was understandable considered the events that had occured. (Y/n) did not pay much attention to the speech their headmaster delivered, though she picked up where the Dementors could be found. Avoiding them like the plague was pretty much her chosen plan of action, remembering the cold and unyielding feeling from when she died by their hands many years ago. It was just a little less awful than the betrayals she went through, leaving her mouth dry even decades later. Only one face had remained by her side, a face that never would stir the same butterflies in her, no matter how much he might try. She had left him behind - she knew that that was something that led him to his following actions - but she could never imagine herself loving him the same way as she did before. He was still important to her, yet something had shifted the moment he decided to commit atrocious acts in her name.

A few people next to her she noticed Draco and his minions provoking Harry once again, posing in a position that was meant to show fainting. Beneath the table she made sure to cast a spell that would later trip him, preferably in front of her.

"Hey, (Y/n). I've heard almost nothing from you during summer break. How'd that come?", Pansy spoke to her, cutting her thought process short. Her expression was worried, a sentiment that was rather unusual for a Slytherin to show with people nearby. "Are you alright? Do I need to use Crucio on someone?"

She snorted, shaking her head softly. "My relatives left me no real room for sending letters. They're not really fond of how I turned out to be."

"In Slytherin?"

"A witch."

Pansy's expression grew dark. Her friend barely talked about her home, leave alone her family. It was no secret that she was one of the few mudbloods in their house, but more powerful than almost every student their year. Teasing still was on her daily schedule, yet she had earned herself some respect by now. Even Pansy had needed time to warm up to the girl in front of her, and she, at least for Slytherin, was viewed as rather social. "So, no Crucio?", she made sure, sceptic, when (Y/n) nodded.

"Sadly. If the need arises, I can do that myself."

"I can't believe Hagrid'll be our teacher in Care of Magical Creatures. Does he even have a teaching license?", she heard another student grumble, one of those who still teased her for her heritage. Ignoring that comment she glared at the backside of Draco's head, to stop him from loosing them house points before the year had even begun. Her sigh was unaudible to her surroundings, the people around her chatting away happily, eating and catching up with each other.

With Lupin, Dementors and Hagrid here, the chances for a simple year are basically zero. I should have just stayed home.

The dorms she and her roommates lived in had been moved further into the back of the dungeons, a help for the younger kids - especially first years - to navigate through the castle. (Y/n) wasted no time, shoving her little bag into her chest that was placed next to her bed as usual, then grabbing her sleeping clothes and changing. She wasn't truly tired, yet pretending to be seemed a better option than talking to the girls she shared the room with. Her desire to play friends with them was at a very low point at the moment, leaving her to quickly turn off her lights, pretending to sleep. The dark green of her sheets was calming, softer than those at what she called her home this life. Snuggling deeper into the blanket, until she was comfortably wrapped up, she closed her eyes a little. During many of her lives, this had become her place of safety and calm. Sometimes she had had parents that loved her dearly, sometimes none at all. Sometimes she was sure she should just end the misery she lived in, only to remind herself of what would happen if she did. Everything would just begin again... Being a toddler, being babied... So she stayed alive as long as possible.

In the lifes where her families where kind people, she would try to be the way they wanted her to be. A good daughter, with grades anyone would be envious of (years of rehearsing known facts did have some benefits), talent. Still, she felt as if she let these people down.

She wasn't normal.

She wasn't flawless, even if she tried to be.

She knew the dark that lurked in the shadows.

She remembered. Everything, except her very first life.

Turning to her side she shut her eyes further, falling into a restless sleep, dreams of her past mixed with her fantasies... In the end, it was her who had betrayed and deceived everyone.
