~Natsu's POV
"You know you have to ask her, right?" he said.
"But I don't think she is ready. I'm even afraid she will do the opposite of what I want," I said carefully.
He sighed. "This woman got you good, huh? You never cared, but when she came in picture you did, not that I complain about it. Just think about it. We will be more as one and she is going to be protected better."
I let out a long sigh. "Fine, do you got the equipment to do it?" I asked him, looking at him in the eyes. I wasn't in the mood to snap. I tried to conceal my emotions, but he obviously saw through me.
He nodded. "In the drawer next to you. She doesn't know yet. But make it soon. Otherwise you're as good as gone."
He stopped speaking when my crew came in. Luckily he was already done. "Yo, Gildarts!" Gray said, slapping him amicably on the back.
I leaned on my right side and had one hand supporting my face, while laying down. I faced them. I saw the relief washing over Jellal's face. Everyone gave me grins. "Took you long enough," Gajeel said.
I shrugged, waving it off. "Yeah yeah," I said nonchalantly. I could see they were tired though, and with that thought I smiled. I have found amazing people.
I sat up straight and closed my eyes for a second to think. Everything is messed up. The news, how will they react when I went out?
I felt everyone's eyes on me. Not that it mattered, I am used to the stares. When I finally opened them they were icy cold. Anyone with a decent working brain would not come interrupting my space.
Everyone thinks a mafia leader is there only to kill, sell drugs and whatever. And the most outstanding was that people think they're heartless. I was far from heartless, but I knew how to hide the emotions when I needed it. Being lead by emotions can kill you.
"Yo Natsu, it is still too early for you to go to work. You need to rest," Gray said, trying to reason me. He was my right hand, so he knows how I could be.
I glared at him. He clearly knew that I don't want to be treated like some helpless dog. But I know I'm not used to everything right now. Letting Gray rule for now would be the best.
"I don't care. What happened when I was out?"
"Nothin' much. We kidnapped you to the mafia, because there was an assualt on you again by two assassins from the same attack by the palace," Gajeel grunted, thinking about how we lost.
I let the memories about that flow in my head. I chuckled, can't have a fair fight? 2 against 100, so fair... and they had weapons and we didn't. Why didn't we take weapons. We're the top. That was such a rookie mistake on my behalf.
I clenched my teeth in hatred. I breathed slowly, frowning. "I hope you took care of it already," I stated.
Laxus slightly rubbed his neck. "Well... you s—"
I cut him off. "Don't even think about finishing that line. I don't see a thing, I'm blind," I said. "Just freaking answer!"
"We got a few, but not everyone. But the king gave out the task." Jellal buttoned in.
The king? The king... that stupid worthless piece of manshit that runs this assland?
Oh, him, yeah I know him. I smirked, "Well then, if the king ordered them. Let's show him in what kind of trouble he bought himself into." I chuckled.
"But, it is the ki—"
"I don't fucking care who it is. Whoever lays hand on me or my friends is dead. And let's say, he did multiple of that."
They all gave in to my command. "Fine. We will see what we can do once you get out," Gray said.
"But please, you don't know in which trouble you'll get yourself in," Jellal tried.
I scoffed. "Oh please, the king doesn't know in which trouble he got himself in."
Jellal and I had a stare battle going on. Both staring daggers at each other. He always wants to back out, he always says it is too dangerous. But he knew the rule. 'Someone who lays hand on the family will get payback.'
Simple as that.
"Babe? What's going on?" a voice said breaking each other out of the stare battle. Lucy walked in with a cute white dress.
"Nothing! We were just discussi—"
"I wasn't talking to you." Lucy said, cutting Gajeel. I inwardly chuckled, Lucy can be feisty when she wants to.
She walked to us and the boys instantly made a path for her. She was a little confused by that, but she decided to ignore it. I saw the boys smirking when they saw the back of the hoodie.
"Does she know it stands there?" Gray whispered to Gildarts. "Probably."
"Don't worry about it, Luce," I answered.
She only nodded and then joined me on the bed. It was big enough for two people, maybe even three. I swung an arm around her and brought her closer to me.
"I'm cold," she said. It was indeed cold inside. Everyone was dressed in thick clothes, except me and Gray.
I put a blanket over her. I saw her tired eyes, how much she tried to hide it. I placed her on the pillow and she wanted to complain.
"Natsuuu... I'm completely fine..." she whined childishly. I saw the boys rolling their eyes. I glared at them. "Watch your moves," I threatened.
They held up their hands in surrender.
Then I turned to Lucy, "I want you to sleep now. Tomorrow is a big day ahead."
"Why?" she asked, having her interest peaked.
"You will find out."
"But I wanna know now!" she demanded, or at least tried.
"Just shut up and sleep, your health is way more important," I said in a stern voice. She narrowed her eyes at me, weighing off the options.
With that she closed her eyes and drifted to sleep.
The next day I was driving Lucy to a special place. Well, it wasn't actually the next day. It was still 1 hour before the sun arrives. Luckily nobody saw me, yet... Lucy wanted to complain and demanded that I had to stay in bed.
But I already gave in one time, I won't do it twice to the same command. Besides, I was feeling perfectly fine.
Gray and the rest were following us. I had ordered them to make sure no one is interupting us.
The ride was in a comfortable silence, but I was slightly nervous. Today is a very important day to the mafia. After half an hour we arrived at a big hill with some trees on it.
I led her to the top and saw my crew surrounding the hill. When we were on the top she awwed at the view. You could see a big part if the city and the beach.
"Natsu! This view is amazing!" She said happily. I chuckled, she can make the smallest thing seem so satisfying. She turned to me, her smile was beautiful, just like everything of her.
"You know, today is a special day."
She raised her eyebrow a little bit. She seemed so innocent... so cute.
"How come?"
I began to explain to her the tradition. "Every leader has to have a wife within the first two years . It is tradition in the mafia. It shows that though someone may seem heartless, they are ready to commit to a person. It proves everyone wrong that you can't judge someone on their title. You know, to make it clear what kind of mafia Fairy Tail is."
She nodded slowly, still progressing what I said.
After a couple of seconds I continued, "It doesn't matter if you have a girlfriend or not. You have to commit to a person for the rest of your life."
"Wait... does that mean..."
I raised my hand, shushing her. I don't want her to interupt me either.
"So even when you don't love someone, you have to have a wife. And you can't cheat on or treat them as trash. You have to care about her for the rest if your life. And if you already have one, you don't have to do it again. If you don't follow the tradition, you're as good as gone. Nobody may break any tradition we have. That is what all the leaders of Fairy Tail have vowed for. So it is basically a tradition to prove others wrong and to prove that you love her and that you care."
"Simple as that," I ended, wanting to dust myself off for basically keeping it professional.
I looked at Lucy with a smile.
~Nobody's POV
The pieces were slowly forming a puzzle in Lucy's head. The other day, when she eavesdropped on Natsu. They talked about today!
But she was so naive right now. Her eyes filled with sadness. "So you're basically saying that you're going to marry another woman in front of me?"
Right then she slapped herself mentally. That's the stupidest thing she ever said. Never ever was she so... dumb. But Lucy was too shocked to think straight.
What she said caught Natsu off guard. "What the..? No no, oh Gosh Lucy." Natsu said and chuckled a little bit. He found her really cute innocent now. He went to her and kissed her forehead.
"I can see you are too shocked to even think straight."
How does he know? Lucy thought.
Noticing her silence he continued. "I'm the leader so I have to marry someone, to follow this tradition."
He paused for a second and then looked at her in the eyes. He tried to set up a mask, but Lucy managed to see through it. It was sweet, sincery and lovely.
"And I choose you to be my wife, my lover, my everything."
His voice was soft, that could make any woman melt. Lucy's eyes widened again. She couldn't believe it.
Natsu took some distance and smiled at her. "So... be my wife, Lucy!"
He wasn't kneeling on one knee. He wasn't saying sweet things to her. He didn't plan a date and went to surprise her.
No, he just told her the tradition and said it. Not even asking again.
Lucy took one step back, "Why are you doing this?" she asked, shivering.
"I told you, the tradi—"
"So only because of the stupid tradition?!!" Lucy burst out.
However, Natsu remained calm. "Yup." He wasn't even denying it. Lucy wanted to say things, but he wasn't done.
"I've always wanted to, but I didn't have the guts to ask you. And now this is the right moment. I want to and I have to. The tradition is just an excuse, I've always wanted you to be mine mine," he said.
And now he went on one knee. He took the box out Gildarts got him.
"I've never felt this way towards anyone, Lucy. You're literally the one who I love the most. I am going to keep it short. Lucy Heartfilia, are you going to make me the happiest man alive by marrying me? You are already my queen, but you'll the queen of the whole mafia. We are going to protect you at all cost. But you also have some responsibilities, are you ready to do that? Will you marry me, Luce?"
Lucy was staring at him wide eyed the whole time. When he was done she wasn't even speaking.
Natsu waited patiently, knowing it must be a shock to her. But he soon grew tired, he was waiting for 5 minutes and kneeling wasn't the most comfortable position there was.
He held in a chuckle, Lucy didn't even move a single finger. "Any time now."
You could hear the amusement in his voice.
This seemed to bring her back to life. Her eyes were filled with tears. Words couldn't describe how she felt right now.
Feeling insecure she looked around her, looking if he wasn't talking to someone else. Stupid move, she knew. They were the only ones here.
Finally she opened her mouth. "Y-yes," she whispered. Almost not hearable.
Natsu smiled and placed the beautiful ring on her finger. Then he turned to kiss her. Destiny seemed to encourage them.
It was a beautiful moment. The sun was setting, going to light the day. The moment felt so right.
When they broke apart Lucy hugged Natsu.
Natsu smirked, he wasn't that fan of romance.
"I knew you would fall for my charms."
Lucy immediately broke apart and smacked him on the head.
"Way to ruin the moment. Tch," She exclaimed, crossing her arms. He chuckled and ruffled her hair.
Natsu and Lucy sat down and watched as the sun came up behind the city. They were holding hands. After awhile Natsu brought Lucy's hand to his face.
He carefully kissed her knuckles. As if she was too vulnerable to break. It was a sweet gesture, one Lucy would remember. She always would remember this day.
"Tomorrow will be the wedding, my soon te be wife. You better expect a big strawberry cake that Erza will kill for to eat." At his last statement he chuckled.
"No, seriously. I'm so glad you didn't reject me."
Lucy smiled brightly at him.
"I could never."
