Oh My God
"Woah, woah, woah, that's not how the story ended!"
The woman in yellow looks over at me and raises an eyebrow. "It's my story, what do you mean it's not how it ended?"
"The two in the story, they never broke up. In fact, that birthday was the best day of his life, not the saddest."
"How do you know?" The smallest child asks, staring up at me with curious eyes.
I smile gently. "Because, it's based off a true story. Well, all up until that end part."
The woman chuckles and closes the book, setting it on the coffee table. "Okay, whatever, those two gave me a sappy ending, I wanted something angsty. As a teenager, I knew that's what teens wanted."
I roll my eyes. "Uh huh, sure you did."
"The book was a bestseller, was it not?" She asks, smirking at me.
The seven year old tilts her head. "So, if that's not how the story ended.. How did it truly end?"
She and the other two kids sitting there turned to face me, leaning in as they were excited to hear. I sigh softly and nod.
"Okay, okay. Basically, on the main character's twenty-first birthday, his boyfriend was there. They hadn't broken up, in fact, that binder that he gave him, had a proposal in it. Not a break up letter."
"What's a proposal?" The six year old asks.
I smile gently. "Well, it's kind of like a question. But this time, the question was him asking if he wanted to marry him." I explain. The six year old boy smiles brightly.
"He did? That's so cool!" He says.
"Then what happened?" The seven year old asks, raising an eyebrow.
"Well, after they got married, they adopted three kids and lived happily ever after." I say.
The three in front of me all smile widely. "Really? They were okay after all?" The middle child asks.
I nod at them. "Yes, sweetie, they were."
"So what happened to the rest of the characters, then?" The youngest asks, tilting her head.
"Well, the young girl who wrote that book of them became a best selling author, and signed with Queen Writing Enterprises. She's supposed to be writing more books, but I don't know if she is, she won't share any of them." I chuckle.
"Wait, what about the best friends? What happened to them?" The boy asks curiously.
"Oh, they stayed in America after all and opened up a bakery. I'll have to take you guys there someday. They have the best pastries ever." I say.
"What about the one girl that got in the way of their relationship?" The oldest asks with a disgusted look on her face.
"Well, she was still around unfortunately because her sister got engaged to the writer, but she just didn't show up to very many events where we were all there. She was still bitter after everything that happened."
"And what about-"
The door opens and I smile up at it. A tall, freckled man walks into the room and the children's faces light up as well. "Papa!" They run over and hug him, and I stand up.
He soon walks over to me and kisses me softly. "Hi, hon, what were you guys doing?"
"We were reading Peggy's book, the kids loved it except for the ending." I chuckles softly and Peggy rolls her eyes.
"Oh, they're young, they don't know good literature yet." She defends.
The man in front of me raises an eyebrow. "How did the story end?"
"They broke up!" The youngest whines, running over and clinging to his leg.
"The main couple?" He asks. He looks over at Peggy. "Why would you write that? That's not what happened."
"I thought it'd be a nice ending! Besides, it leaves room for a third book if I really wanted to." She shrugs.
I chuckle gently. "Well, you're going to have to write about something else if you don't want sappy, then."
"Yes, because the two are very happy together." My lover says, pulling me close.
I kiss his cheek and then look at the kids. "Alright, Frances, Philip, will you two help with setting the table for dinner?"
The six and seven year old nod and run to the kitchen and the five year old looks up at me with big eyes. "What can I do, Daddy?"
I think about it and then smile. "You can help Auntie Peggy get the food out, Anabelle. How about that?"
She nods and runs over to Peggy, who lifts her up and carries her to the kitchen. I look over to the man beside me.
"Was it really that bad of an ending?" He asks.
I nod. "I swear I saw Philip tearing up a bit. Don't worry, I told them what really happened."
He chuckles softly. "That couple is really happy, they don't deserve a sad ending." He wraps his arms around my neck.
"They are so unbelievably happy." I smile at him. "Even if the taller, freckled one messed up quite a bit."
He rolls his eyes. "Oh shut up." He says and kisses me.
We pull away and I look up at him. "I love you, John."
He smiles down at me. "I love you, too, Alex. I always have, I always will."
"Thank God you didn't ask someone else to do your homework." I say, sighing softly.
He chuckles softly and nods. "Thank God you didn't take someone else's money."
"My God... I love you so much." I lean in and kiss him again, smiling to myself. The lawyer and the artist.. So many people thought it would fail. They were wrong.
Now this? This was the correct ending for us.
The (actual) End
941 Words
Come on, you guys didn't really think I'd end with a sad ending, did you? If you know my writing at all, it's almost always a happy ending haha.
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this series as much as I did. I'm thankful for all of you who stuck around for so long while I was taking breaks and such in the middle of this book.
Also, I know Peggy mentioned a third book, but I swear I'm not doing that. This is the last book for this series lol. Just thought I'd add that in there.
For those interested, I will be trying to finish up Never Say Forever soon, and then I already have a new story in the early works, and I'm thinking of maybe finding a new ship to write, we shall see. I will hopefully see you guys around in other stories!
