No One Here To Hold Me Now
Okay here is the real chapter lol
It’s been a month since we made up. We were doing fairly well, to be honest.
He hasn’t talked to Carrie except to tell her that he was cutting her out completely. He hasn’t given me any reason to suspect he was talking to her or anyone else for that matter.
He also has been home more often, and we’ve gone on quite a few dates to make up for lost time. Peggy complains sometimes because there’s not enough “angst” for her story, but I like it better this way. Not fighting all the time, actually acting like a couple. It was a nice, refreshing break from all that nonsense.
But of course, knowing my luck, that happiness wasn’t going to last long. Nothing had happened yet, but I knew something was going to. One of us was going to mess up sooner or later.
I walk into the house after a long day at work and see Peggy and John playing a card game of some sorts. They were shouting at each other, so they hadn’t noticed my walking in yet.
I go to the kitchen and make some coffee, and when I return to the livingroom with the mug in hand, they finally notice me.
“Oh, hey, Alex.” Peggy nods, not breaking her stare away from the game.
John, however, turns and smiles at me. He gets up and kisses me quickly. “Hey, babe, how was work?”
I sigh and sit on the couch, and John returns to sitting on the floor with Peggy, but still pays attention to me. “It was long, and boring.”
“So same as always?” He asks and I nod.
“John, it’s your turn, hurry up!” Peggy says.
John chuckles and plays his turn.
“Peggy, don’t you have school work to do? Angelica texted me to tell you you needed to focus more on school.” I say.
She shrugs. “I’m passing all my classes, I’m doing just fine.”
I roll my eyes. “Alright, well what about your book? Shouldn’t you get going on that?”
She groans. “You guys are boring, though! All happy stuff, I can’t write about that.”
“Then make up some drama or something, I wanna spend time with my boyfriend.” I say.
She fake gags and then stands up. “Whatever, I won three rounds anyway.” She shrugs and makes her way to the kitchen, pulling out her laptop and starting to type.
John smiles at me and joins me on the couch. I immediately grab the remote and cuddle up to him, turning the TV on. “Marvel?” I ask.
“But you hate Marvel.” John says.
“But you love it.” I reply.
John chuckles softly. “I love you so much.”
I smile up at him. “I love you too.” I give him a quick peck and when I pull away, he looks at me still.
I blush gently. “You creep, stop staring at me.” I tease, looking away.
“I just.. I can’t believe you actually took me back. I’m so lucky to have you in my life..”
I blush a little more and look up at him. “John, that was like a month ago..”
“I know, I know. I just.. Still trying to wrap my head around it, I guess.” He sighs softly.
I look back at the screen and cuddle myself further into him, holding his hand and wrapping it around me a little more. “Well, I’m right here. You’d better believe it.”
There was a long pause, so I turned on the TV. I put on Iron Man, since it was the only Marvel superhero I somewhat liked. I watch the movie and he suddenly kisses the top of my head.
“I love you.”
I look up at him. “I know, you just said that.” I chuckle.
He looks down at me and smiles, before leaning down to kiss me. I kiss back and smile into it, humming gently.
"Eww, get a room!" I hear Peggy shout from the kitchen.
I pull away, chuckling softly, and look at Peggy. "We have one, but can't use it because a certain teen is staying here right outside our door."
She fake gags and shakes her head. "God, nope, I'm leaving. I can't be around this anymore, I almost prefer you two fighting." She teases, grabbing her stuff.
John and I laugh softly and I lean into him. "Well, I prefer us like this." John says.
Peggy grabs her laptop and the spare key we gave her, and shoves it into her backpack. "I'm going to the cafe, do you guys want anything?"
"One coffee, please!" I say.
"Alex, it's 6:30, don't you think it's a bit late for coffee?" John asks.
"I have work to do, love."
He rolls his eyes. "Of course you do."
I laugh softly. "Well, don't worry, we can probably fit a round in while she's getting coffee." I flirt, and he blushes quite a bit.
Peggy covers her ears. "La la la la! I'm not hearing this right now! La la la la!" She shouts and I roll my eyes.
"You're such a child, I was just kidding, Peggy."
Peggy uncovers her ears and crosses her arms. "You two are impossible to love with, in case you were wondering." She sighs. "I'm just going to get your normal drinks, and be back in a half hour. Please don't let me walk in on anything."
She leaves and I look up at John. He smiles down at me and kisses my forehead. "You put Marvel on, I'd rather sit here and cuddle while this lasts."
I groan playfully. "Of course you would."
Around a half hour later, Peggy rushes in, as promised. John and I look at her to see her smiling and out of breath.
"You alright there, Pegs?" John asks.
She nods. "I just met the cutest girl ever at the cafe." She says, her smile never leaving her face.
I smile softly. "Did you get her number?" I ask.
She pauses and looks at us, shaking her head.
"What? Peggy, why not?" John asks.
"I was going to, I was too nervous too, though!" Peggy exclaims. "She was so super sweet, and pretty, too. And when she handed me my drinks-"
"Wait, so she works there?" I ask, tilting my head.
She nods.
"Oh, so we'll go back tomorrow so you can get her number, then. It's not completely a lost cause." John shrugs.
"What? No, I can't do that!"
"You can, though."
I pause and look back at her. "Wait, what happened with you and Maria? I thought you two were together?"
Peggy sighs softly. "She moved to Ohio." She says, dragging out the name as long as possible. "She said she just couldn't see long distance working for us."
I frown. "Oh, I'm sorry.." I say. "I didn't know.."
She shrugs. "It's fine, I promise. That was over the summer, and I'm already crushing on someone new."
"Did you find out her name?" John asks.
"Uh, no." Peggy smiles nervously. "But, I remember how she looks, and she had a little rainbow pin on her lanyard."
"Always a good sign." John comments.
I smile softly and nod. "Alright, it's settled, then. We'll go back to the cafe tomorrow, and if she is there, you have to ask for her number."
John agrees with me and Peggy sighs. "Fine. But just so you know, I hate you guys."
"Nah, don't worry about it, you love us anyway." John chuckles.
"Yes, now give me my coffee." I say, making grabby hands. "Please." I add.
Peggy walks over and hands us our drinks, sitting on the ground in front of the couch to watch the movie with us.
I smile and cuddle up more to John, relaxing. I felt at peace for the first time in forever, and it felt amazing.
This was definitely worth the risk.

Sorry this is late, it was a fluff chapter and I always struggle writing those. Plus I've got a million things on my plate rn.
I might need to put it on hold for a few weeks, but we'll see. I'll let you know on my MB, so look for that.
But don't worry, I'm not gonna put it on hold and then never post again. If I do put it on hold, it will be back again I swear. And it won't be on hold for too long
Anyway that's it :)
