Chapter 1

She walked in, and started talking to the boy. Welcoming him into her home. They were walking into the living room, when they bumped into her father.

"Hi dad, um... this is Simon." She said nervously gesturing to her new friend.

"Hello sir." He quietly responded as he shifted his gaze to Keiko.

The man stood straighter and raised an eyebrow ever so slightly. Simon immediately gazed back to the ground. "Hello... Simon." He said with a touch of disgust.

A young boy walked into the room. He looked nothing like his sister, he was completely different. He had brown hair, and brown eyes. He had his blue jeans on and a grey t-shirt that said "This Is Me" in big blue letters. He stood between at the base of the stairs. As he turned to Keiko, he started to stare. He had the feeling that a fight was to happen soon. He would step in, but he knew better to.

"Young lady, you know not to bring...." The father thought to say boys, but said something else. "people... unnoticed."

Keiko stared down at her feet, she knew what her father meant, but she hadn't cared at the time. She knew she had to get Simon out, but the only thing was, this was her first friend in 7 years. No way would she let him go.

"But father, this is a friend." She finally replied as she stepped forward. "Isn't that right Cole?"

The boy turned his head when he heard his head. I don't want to get into this, but I guess I have to. He thought as he walked beside his sister.

"Yeah, I guess." He said with a slight shrug. He glanced at Keiko, seeing a glare he decided to change his answer. "Yeah, a friend."

Keiko started to move towards her father ready for a fight, the second she looked into the watchful glare of her father, Cole knew to take her away from them, but just couldn't.

"I'm sorry Mr. Newton, I shall leave now." Simon interrupted.

"Yes... yes..." Keiko's father stroked his beard.

"No!" Keiko practically yelled. "He stays with me." She stormed up the stairs and Simon followed.

"Young lady, get down this instant!" Her father yelled at her.

"No! You aren't in charge of me!" She replied.

She stormed up the stairs Simon trailing behind her. Cole stared at the both of them, and decided to follow them. He climbed up the stairs to her bedroom and knocked the door. He heard a faint voice inside and he guessed it would be okay to come in.

He opened the door and peeked in. Keiko was on her bed leaning on the head board. Her friend was sitting on the edge of the bed, looking at her and talking silently. He seemed sorry he'd come, but yet reluctant to go.

"Keiko..." He said silently as he walked towards her bed.

She peered through her hands, that had just been covering her face. "Yes?" She replied.

Now Cole, as an older brother to her sister, he felt bad for her. The guilt, shame, and sadness on her face seemed to tell him that now wasn't a great time, but he had to talk with her anyways. He felt as though he should've been the one to stand up for her, but that was different now, she said she'd always be fine.

"Are you okay?" Cole questioned as he sat on the edge of her bed.

She looked up, her hair messy and all over the place. "Yeah... like I always say. I'm- fine." She answered reluctantly.

Cole knew, the answer was wrong, but he had the gut feeling to keep asking, even though it could end up in a fight. "You're lying." He finally stated.

"What?" She said taken aback, this had never happened before, usually she could always lie, but not this time. She put her hand up to her face and swiped at her hair to get it away from her face.

"You lied, again." He repeated. He gazed at Simon who had his head hung low, he seemed to be afraid to be in the conversation.

Keiko started to glance here and there, but the only place she never looked was into Cole's eyes, or anywhere close. She was obviously scared to look, now that she had been caught, she was in even more shame.

"Hey it's okay, I know what you're doing, everyone does. They say they're fine, but we all know they aren't." Cole said taking her hand and giving it a light squeeze. He knew how hard it was for her, but he didn't know why she had to lie.

She nodded slowly. "You're right, for the past 2 years, I've been lying right to you're face." She spat out.

"Wait what?" Cole said surprised, he had no idea this had been happening for 2 years. "What do you mean 2 years?"

She started to sit up, and finally stood right in front of him, letting go of his hand. Now that she was standing she was taller, she looked down at him. "For 2 years, you abandoned me!"

Cole leaned back, "No!" he got up and faced his sister.

"Oh yeah?" She yelled back.

"Yes! Have I ever left you?" He said as he leaned in a little closer so they were face to face.

"Well, you clearly haven't known the truth for a long time." She said as she waved her hand back and turned. She walked to her desk and took a seat in her chair, "You want the story don't you? Well here you go!" and she was off with her story.
