Chapter Two ✔

"H e double hockey sticks no!"

"Really?" I ask her with a laugh when she says h e double hockey sticks. "Also come on, it will be fun!"

"I am not jumping into that pool Cage whatever your middle name is Trevor!"

"Larson."

She stops protesting for a second and shoots me a confused look.

"My middle name is Larson. What's yours?"

"Oh and Marie. I'm still not jumping in that pool though."

After the kitchen got too crowded we decided to come outside. Bonus is it made Aurora relax and actually not seem like she's waiting for the right moment to leave. We got to talking a bit and then I saw someone throw someone in the pool and have been trying to talk Aurora into jumping in with me ever since.

Haven't been able to convince her, yet.

I walk closer to her slowly and she must sense what I'm about to do cause she takes off running.

"Cage I swear I will hire someone to kill you if you throw me in that pool!" Aurora yells over her shoulder.

All these years of running bases for baseball are coming in handy right now cause it isn't too much longer until I catch up to her. It was cute she thought she could outrun me. I grab her around the waist and swing her around to face the opposite direction she was running in. Aurora starts to wiggle trying to get me to let her go, just tighten my grip on her slightly, careful to not hurt her.

"Wait, why hire someone?"

"So I have less chance of going to prison," She says in a duh tone.

I bark out a laugh and then juggle her until I'm carrying her princess style.

She throws her arms around my shoulders the moment I do, looking at the ground like I might drop her.

"Probably shouldn't have shouted that you'll hire someone to kill me then. Plus look at this face there will be a search party for years to find me," I give her a charming smile and she just rolls her eyes.

"Alright, pretty boy. You're right, it will be difficult to kill you."

I nod my head in agreement and stand next to the pool.

"Even though you agreed you need to be punished for even saying that," I turn to the side and swing her, she tightens her grip on me when on the last swing she came dangerously close to going in.

Deciding she learned her lesson I place her back down on her feet, then sit down by the edge of the pool. I take my shoes and socks off and then put my feet in the pool. I look up at her and pat the place next to me. She eventually sits down and takes her shoes off to dip her feet in the pool.

"Where are you going to college?" I ask her when we've been silent for some time.

"I'm going to the state school. I didn't want to leave Montana. What about you?"

"Vanderbilt. Know what you're going to major in yet?"

Aurora looks up at the sky and thinks about my question, I look up at the sky and see all the stars twinkling.

"I think I want to be a teacher," She says, not taking her eyes away from the sky.

I think about her answer, teaching is definitely something I could see Aurora doing. She's got this calming nature about her.

"I think you'll make a great teacher someday Aurora," I kicked the water with my left foot a little bit, making the water splash my thigh.

"Thanks. I would ask you but it's kind of obvious what you want. I think all of the surrounding counties know you want to play pro baseball someday."

She's right ever since I started playing freshman year I knew that I wanted to play baseball for the rest of my life. I live and breathe baseball and I can only hope I get to play for a professional team someday. I'm careful all of the time to make sure I don't accidentally get injured and ruin my chance.

"Yo Cage!"

I look around for the person who called my name and spot Xavier walking over to me.

"Sup man," I shoot him a look, like make it quick, wanting him gone as soon as possible.

"I'm gonna head out. Want me to take Andrew home so you don't have to?"

A few silent words pass between us before I answer him.

"Yeah that'd be great thanks," He just nods his head and I bump my fist with his, and then he's gone.

"You designated driver tonight?" Aurora asks me.

I look into her eyes and get the best, probably craziest, idea ever. I want to take her to Bryce and get tacos. They seriously are the best tacos ever and I feel like she would like them too.

I take my feet out of the pool and put my socks and shoes back on and then stand up. Aurora gives me a questioning look, then puts her high heel back on and stands up. Smoothing her dress out as once she's standing. It's strange seeing her in a dress, I don't think I have ever seen her wearing a dress or skirt at school before. I can only assume that the dress is courtesy of Molly or Nora.

"Want to get out of here?"

I look at Aurora and smile holding my hand out to her, a silent offering.

"Yes," she slips her hand into mine and we take off running.

We rush out of the backyard through the fence gate and run down the street to where my car is. I stop running when it comes into view and Aurora places her hands on her hips and tries to catch her breath.

"Too much running for you Sugar?"

She doesn't bother responding to me, just narrows her eyes in a glare. I can't tell if it's the question or the name that is causing her to glare.

Probably both.

I unlock my car and open the passenger door for her, I wave my hand gesturing for her to get in. She does without protesting shockingly. I close the door, race around the hood, and get in on the driver's side.

"Do you have a curfew?" I look over to her waiting for her to speak before I start the car.

"Not tonight. Mom was so surprised I said I was going to a party that she said I could come home whenever I wanted. In fact, she insisted I not come back home tonight. I wonder how many teenagers can say their parents told them to party all night." Aurora rambles, she sees me still looking at her and her cheeks start to turn an adorable shade of red.

I duck my head down so she can't see my smile, once I feel I have my expression back to neutral I look back up and start my car then drive.

"Do you have an aux cord?"

"Yeah in the glove box," I watch her out of the corner of my eyes and see her plug her phone into my stereo and scroll through her phone.

She must have found a song to play because the music starts to play from the speakers. I listen quietly for a little bit to see if I know the song but come up blank. I had never heard of it before.

"What's this song called?"

"On my own by Honest Men," She replies, digging around in her bag for something.

I try to think if I have heard of them but once again come up blank. Xavier would probably know them. I swear he listens to the most obscure stuff ever. I'm about to tell her I like it when I see her looking in the visor mirror putting on chapstick. My eyes follow the movement of her hand as she swipes chapstick over her lips. Wishing that it was my tongue swiping over those lips of hers instead. I snap out of my daze before she catches me and directs my eyes back to the road.

"I like the song," I choke out, still not completely back to normal after what I just watched.

"It's one of my favorite bands. Also, where are we going?"

"To Bryce."

"What?!" Aurora whips her head in my direction, eyes wide.

"To get tacos," I tell her hoping she's not about to get angry, not gonna lie she would probably be scary cute angry.

"To get tacos?" Aurora makes a sound of disbelief.

"Yep."
