It came as a shock to both parties as the familiar, shrill, tone echoed throughout the compact space within the police-station, the owner of the cause of it mumbling a thousand apologies as he hastily answered his phone's beck-and-call;
"H-Hello...?"
"Phoenix, it's me."
"I-I know... I... I s-saw the contact n-name."
"Where the heck are you?" The prosecutor's slightly crackled, concerned, voice boomed down the phone, causing the defence attorney to bashfully turn away from Clementine's person, clutching the device even more tightly to his ear until it was plastered to his skin.
"I've been worried sic-"
"N-Not now, E-Edgeworth..." Phoenix quietly groaned, timidly glancing back at the door in front of the men in a wistful nature, his curiosity now piqued with the sense of unknown territory and adventure.

He was behind that door.

Every unsolved mystery lay beyond that door.

It was only a few steps away, and here he was - answering a phone call. Was that too harsh? Probably. Phoenix just couldn't help himself from feeling that way (no matter how guilty it made him feel).
"What? What do you mean 'not now'?" The defence attorney stiffened as hesitation took control of his shivering body.
"Phoenix? What's wrong?" Edgeworth's panicked shouting instantly transformed, becoming a much more subdued, gentle, noise - a sound which, under normal circumstances, would lull the spiky-haired man into a state of transfixed tranquility.
"I-I... I-I'm b-busy... I-I'll explain l-later,"
"I'm not taking that as an answer. Where are you." Phoenix gulped, sub-consciously taking a tentative step backwards into the smooth, bleached, walls surrounding the barrenly decorated area despite the fact that there was nothing to back away from.
"I-I'm fine,"
"That still doesn't answer my question."
"I-I... I can't tell you,"
"Phoenix, are we seriously going to have to go as far as a GPS tracking device?" The defence attorney felt light-headed and increasingly drunk, seriously regretting the effect that the pancakes were having on his churning stomach. Clementine stepped towards the shorter, spiky-haired, man after a few moments of eery silence (which had been filled with nothing more than Edgeworth's shallow, slightly crackled, breaths over the phone) and nodded to the device glued to his ear, forcefully reaching his hand out toward it, ignoring the incoherent, petrified, squeaks of protests he was wrenching from Phoenix's mouth as he coaxed the thing out of his trembling hands.
"N-No.. D-Don't.. Wh-What are y-you-" The defence attorney lunged for it in a flurry of desperate adrenaline, clumsily stumbling forwards - almost into the smug police-officer's clutches - as the phone was whipped out of his reach.
"Hello?"
"Who is this." Phoenix could still hear the prosecutor's stern voice, even from the position of two metres away, from the device which he was in.
"Your boyfriend is quite alright, I can assure you! He's just popping in to se-"
"N-No!" The defence attorney's eyes widened with fear as his voice-box decided to cry out without warning his brain, kick-starting a hoard of electric impulses to be sent around his body, forcing him to blindly stagger forwards and knock the thing out of Clementine's hand without consulting his better knowledge first.
"Why you wretched-" The police-officer's offensive slur was abruptly cut off by the domination of the clattering sound effect of plastic slapping marble floor and a hurricane of footsteps following it, rampaging across the floor and into the cell opposite them.
"Phoenix?" Clementine spitefully cursed under his breath, leaving the brick phone where it was, strewn about the floor in a messy fashion, - ignoring Edgeworth's frantic pleas for his boyfriend to return - and took off in the direction of where the defence attorney had fled, his heart beating.

No, this couldn't go wrong.

He had to keep an eye on things.

And that was how, with strands of curly, brown, hair flopping about and flying majestically in the rapidly passing air, Clementine managed to finally catch up with a certain defence attorney to witness-
