Chapter 41

One year later

Ryan couldn't help but smile as he watched his wife dancing and singing along to an old Taylor Swift song as she prepared dinner in the small kitchenette of their motor coach.

Standing by and waiting at your back door
All this time how could you not know
Baby, you belong with me
You belong with me
Oh, I remember you drivin' to my house in the middle of the night
I'm the one who makes you laugh
When you know you're about to cry
And I know your favorite songs
And you tell me about your dreams
I think I know where you belong
I think I know it's with me
Can't you see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see
You belong with me

The words to the song made him think of their high school days. She was always the one who made him laugh. She knew his favorite songs, they talked about their dreams. They really did belong together, they just didn't know it at the time. Thankfully, fate had intervened and had given them a second chance.

She hadn't heard him come in, so he continued to watch and listen. Her singing was off key, but he didn't care, he loved seeing her so happy.

Two months ago, they stood before each other in a church, in front of their family and friends and professed their love for each other as they recited their vows. He thought that was the happiest moment of his life, but he quickly realized each and every day together was his happiest moment.

She finally looked up and caught him watching and her smile grew even brighter. She was glowing.

"What's cooking good looking?" He grinned at her, as he wrapped his arms around her waist and placed a kiss on her cheek.

"Oh my God. You are so cheesy." She giggled.

"I know. I'm such a dork, but you still love me."

"Yes I love you you dork. But you're my dork." She turned around and planted a long, slow kiss on his lips. He released a sigh of contentment. He could not imagine his life being any more perfect than it was right now. Unless he won the Daytona 500 in a couple of days. Maybe. If not, it really didn't matter. As long as Olivia was by his side, he would be happy.

"So, What are you cooking?" He asked again.

She looked thoughtful. "I'm thinking something a little sweet. A little salty, a little spicy, and definitely cheesy."

"Sounds great. What is it?" He asked.

"I don't know yet, but we'll find out in about seven months." She grinned at him. It took him a good half minute to fully comprehend what she had just said.

"Are you saying you're...." His hands reached out to caress her stomach, afraid to say the words out loud. After the miscarriage last year, they took an "if it happens, it happens" approach. Not really trying to get pregnant, but not trying to prevent it either. Although they never really spoke about it, the fact that it never happened concerned him a little, mainly due to the fact that she had previously gotten pregnant without trying, while on birth control. He didn't want to worry her though, so he kept those concerns to himself.

"I'm pregnant Ry." A smile lit up her face. He had heard about the "pregnancy glow", and now he was experiencing it first hand.

"I fucking love you." He crashed his lips to hers, kissing her deeply. What he said earlier about the happiest moment of his life...yeah. This was definitely it. "How long have you known?" He asked.

"About an hour. I took the test not long after you left to meet with Todd and Josh. Then I took another to be sure."

"We're really having a baby?" He could feel the tears of emotion burning behind his eyes.

"We're really having a baby." Her smile faltered slightly, but she caught herself. "I can't help but be a little nervous cause, we'll, you know. I think it's best we keep it to ourselves for now. At least for another month or so when we get into the second trimester."

Yes he knew. As much as he wanted to shout it out to the world, he remembered how hard it was to have to tell people they had lost the baby, and he certainly didn't want to have to go through that again. "It will be our secret. I love you so much Olivia Blaney."

"I love hearing that almost as much as I love you." She wrapped her arms around him and kissed him again.

"One more lap baby. You got this." Olivia whispered to herself and held her breath. Sure it was only one more lap, but she knew how things worked at Daytona. How often had there been a last lap crash or a last lap pass for the lead. She was not sure if her heart or her nerves could take it.

One more corner. They were approaching the start finish line, Chase right on Ryan's bumper. She squeezed crew chief Todd's hand tighter. She wanted to shut her eyes. She couldn't look, but she couldn't look away either. Chase moved to the outside, right alongside Ryan, getting a strong push from his teammate Alex Bowman, but it wasn't enough. Ryan also got a push from his teammate Joey and beat Chase to the line by a nose.

Todd lifted her up and hugged her as she squealed with delight. "Daytona 500 baby. Thank you guys so much." Ryan's voice came over the radio, full of emotion and excitement.

Todd helped her down from the pit box to make their way to victory lane. She could not believe it. They had just won the Daytona 500.

Before she could make it to victory lane, she was met by Nicole, who had gotten engaged to Alex over the off season, and Carly, who after months of being off and on with Chase, were finally on and had become serious.

"Congratulations Liv. We almost pulled it off." Carly said, engulfing Olivia in a huge hug.

"That was a close one. Alex gave Chase one hell of a push." She took one arm from Carly's neck to wrap around Nicole, and included her in a group hug.

"I'm really happy for you and Ryan. If we had to lose to anyone, I'm glad it was Ryan." Nicole said.

Over the last year and a half, Olivia had gotten closer than ever to her old friends. Since they were all with drivers, they spent a lot of time in the same circles, so it was only natural, and Olivia felt blessed to have them in her life. Both of the girls were a part of Olivia and Ryan's wedding, and soon, they would be planning Nicole's wedding. And Olivia's baby shower. She was bursting to tell them her news, but she knew it was best to wait.

"Congratulations Liv." Olivia heard a familiar voice behind her.

"Dean." She jumped into his arms and he spun her around. She didn't see Dean quite as often now that he was working with Brad, but she still considered him one of her closest friends.

"I don't want to hold you up because I know you need to get down to victory lane. I just wanted to say congrats."

"Thanks Dean. I know I have to go, but I promise I'll talk to you soon." She gave him another hug, and got to victory lane just as Ryan was pulling in.

She waited while he climbed out of the car and stood in the window, cheering and showering his team with Body Armor. When he finally jumped down, she made her way to his side.

Ignoring the reporter for just a moment, he wrapped his arm around her, briefly rubbing her stomach, and kissed her, then turned his attention to the reporter to give his interview.

Ryan had been wrong earlier. This was the happiest moment of their lives. So far.
